I get the respect but compared to Prince its poor, why can't Bruce do the solo. Cuz he's not a great player,He Strummer of a few cords.

I don't understand the awe of some for these tributes. Maybe it's soothing.

These tributes suck, plain and simple.
Springsteen was ridiculous and pompous. He almost ruined the song.

D'Angelo, he's what he's always been. A good parrot.
So he learned every vocal inflexion of the original recording. Big deal.

At least Elton John was clever enough to dedicate one of his own songs.

Prince is very, very difficult to cover. Too much personality.

Hey just quit it with the hating on the tributes.

Some of us love them cause they are helping us through the pain. We all know no one can come close to being the amazing live musician Prince is but its incredibly touching for many of us to see so many acts, bands and groups pay a tribute to Prince.

So just lay off.....

What an unexpected, immense loss !!!

It's been 7 days now and still hurts - feels like I've lost a good friend sad

I've followed his musical output for 27 years (since I've seen the SOTT-movie), went to 13 concerts, was looking in his beautiful eyes for minutes at an ONA-soundcheck and even crossed the Atlantic ocean once in my life to visit the first celebration.

Prince has touched me through his music countless times and I will forever be thankfull for enriching my life with the beauty of his Art.

Rest in Joy & Peace Prince ! Nothing compares 2 U heart

Sorry if I sound harsh.

But as a hardcore fan, I do not find this touching, it looks and sounds fake.
Of course everyone is sad.
That doesn't mean you have to show your face on TV on such short notice.

No one cared about Skipper anymore in the showbiz sphere, for quite some time now.

D'Angelo is an exception, because of course he's persuaded he's "Prince episode II".

For years it was the usual respect due, the usual "genius" term, the usual TV appeareance.
But nothing more. And all of a sudden everyone is a fan?

But I won't insist.
I'm glad if people find comfort in these public, exhibitionist displays of grievance.

Oops, I did it again.

My God, it has been a long week. There are so many voices on line talking about all of the different things that might have taken Prince from us and I can't help but wonder why it matters. Is knowing going to have given us one more minute with him on planet Earth?

His death is as sad as it is going to be regardless of what caused it. What has suddenly become sadder is his life. To know that a man who valued control so much may have spent the last few years having lost some of that control. That he spent so many years battling pain and still found so way to share his art and time with his friends and fans is amazing.

Thank you, Prince. You will be forever loved and eternally missed.

Dangelo's cover of "Sometimes It Snows In April" was poignant and timely. However, I do think that Dangelo is overrated by many. Prince established his legacy decades ago as a musicial innovator, fashion icon and business maverick in his fight for better compensation for recording artists and industry reform. D is still mimicking Pirnce's style and musical sensibilities from Parade.

Please let's not turn this into a covers thread.

I'm sorry I'm ranting. It gets harder to discern purity of intention.
Of course everyone has the right to pay homage the way they want.

Must be my anger phase.

Well why don't you try taking that anger somewhere else...it's the last thing we all need is negativity on any of these threads

I agree with some of these, its touching that they do them, doesn't guarantee quality.
the one I love is Chris Cornells Nothing Compares 2 U because its got a very different voice and different vocal timing, the voice will evoke the pain you feel about losing this amazing artist I'm fairly sure ? https://www.youtube.com/w...1XdPtGMErs

D'Angelo made me cry with his intentions and his special lyric about prince in heaven BUT his voice to me was a nasal and less delicate version of Prince's - I think the version of this track that will kill me will likely be from a woman.

I disagree respectfully with Bonatoc. People took Prince for granted 1. because he breathed music and seemed a fixture in our world where you could check in and out every 5 years if you wanted and he would still be there doing great stuff 2. some people can't bear the thought of someone they admire leaving the world. both apply to me.
its a bit random for like Eddie Vedder or someone to say 'prince is the greatest guitarist around' when Prince is still alive and recording, the moment of his passing is perfect timing for people to give thanks and pay tribute and I will treat all tributes as such but will want to rip the still beating hearts out of any bastards writing untruths gleaned from gossiping nobodies who met Prince and want a couple of thousand bucks to put their name to a nasty claim.

here is a less polished version of Cornell's track but you can see him singing -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuUDRU9-HRk

I have listened about 20 times and have not yet managed to do so with dry eyes. the same applies to any version of Sometimes it Snows in April

It's been a few days now. I've been moping around, I didn't know it would affect me in this way. I truly feel depressed and I am grieving the loss of someone/something that has been a part of my life for the last 30 years of my life.

It's hard to think about Prince being gone. He was and will continue to be the standard as to whom I measure a musician by. Selfishly, while all the tributes are heartwarming, they only make me miss him that much more! I can't listen but only for a minute, because they just aren't PRINCE! They make me even more sad and remind me of what we ALL lost! I always took pride in knowing that my favorite artist was Prince! The argument never got started, because the answer was Prince.
LOL

I'm going to miss checking up on the ORG every now and again to see what he was up to. I'm going to miss the rush of finding out where he was performing in LA, so I could try to go see him. Thanks to this site I got to see him at a small venue with some of his biggest fans. I'm glad, this site made it possible to share with other fans and gave us a connection to our hero.

Thanks for being a place to enjoy and geek out and to mourn now 😢

He truly will be missed

re the tributes

here's the thing

Prince was a musician's musician ... he is so loved and respected amongst his peers, many of whom knew him personally on some level

why do you think they all carried on like giddy school girls when he walked on stage to present an award at the grammys?

because someone is famous, they can't be a fan too? nobody here knows what Prince meant to the people paying tribute to him in their own way... and as i said... many had actually met the guy

people on this forum don't have sole rights to being a Prince fan

as an example, i'm a member of other forums for musicians, recording engineers etc... Prince is held in such high esteem amongst those who've dedicated themselves to producing music, redgardless of the genre they might be into

Prince is loved by musicians

Melted

On my birthday (4/8) it not only snowed it rain, sleet, hail sideways ripped by the winds, and the sun came out. It was a Mother kinda day letting us know who is the Boss. On the morning he died I was driving down the road headed to Effingham, IL with my daughter and out of the blue she says ma, why is that field cover in purple? I said what purple I don't see no purple. She claims it was because I was driving too fast to see it. That was around 6:30 am and we talked about the Purple One and TRC song and about the "rainbow children" and what "covenant". We took care of business in Effingham and was driving back to Chicago around 10:00 am and she says again see ma! see the purple fields? I looked and saw an entire farm field was covered in purple. I'm like wow, it surly is purple. I told her it's probably some type of weed, but then I remembered there were no leaves on the trees in Chicago and I'm not a tree expert, but I thought...don't leaves come before weeds? Anyhow, I smiled cause those weeds are short and purple. 20 minutes later sirus radio 80's station announces P's death. I'm in utter and total shock. I smile, and say they playing a joke, it's a joke. Well, I made it back to the crib in one piece...physically, and my front yard is covered in short purple weeds, and still no leaves cause, sometimes it snows in april.
