But then Princey wouldn't be "special" and "unique" and "revolutionary". And that's what these famz cling to. They actually don't care about the music, they know it's rather mediocre. So they cling to these insane ideas that Prince's brainfarts are innovative business schemes which will rock the music industry. And they blame the inevitable failure on the fact that we weren't ready for this new and exciting distribution method.

.

For 15+ years we've said that Prince should have an easy to use website where everything is available. Instead we get puzzles and CDs that are only available in some countries. And when he's back on a major label, he sells what, 150,000 worldwide? And the famz claim that it's all good, he's just as popular, "nobody's selling millions" (ignoring that several artists do).

Sorry Bart you can't accuse others of clinging because you're already the worst clinger in Prince.org's history with your relentless muti-decade crusade against what you'd think was Satan's spawn and not just the allegedly irrelevant no-good has been you claim he is.

.

Yes, me pointing something is shit is a "crusade". How dare I? Don't I know my powerful words hurt the fragile feelings of those feeble famz?

.

Funny how you lot continue to focus on me. You'd think you wouldn't have time with all that fantastic music you can listen to. No seriously, WHY DO YOU CARE SO MUCH? Why does it bother you that people keep pointing out that Prince makes ridiculous decisions? Why do you have to exaggerate and fabricate lies to keep your illusion going? Why is it that in your world only some people have the right to voice an opinion?

And the fact that you deny some of the great P music since 1989 shows your tin ear.

I've posted plenty of names plenty of times.

.

Here's a handful of them: Ariel Pink, Caribou, Jim O'Rourke, Leftfield, Panda Bear, Son Lux, Allah-Las, Blur, Alison Wonderland, Cannibal Ox, COIN, Courtney Barnett, Earl Sweatshirt, Hudson Mohawke, Kamasi Washington, LA Priest, Mbongwana Star, Rae Morris, Speedy Ortiz, Tame Impala, Taxiwars, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Viet Cong, Wire,...

Reading comprehension? Give me names of artists with lengthy careers who have taken you on a journey that has been the equal of Prince.

People are not interested in you for your opinions Bart, that would imply you actually have varying opinions that have not been interchangeable since the mid-90s. Your pedantic attention-grabbing condescension is far more entertaining and you dish it thick because you like to be the focus, pure and simple.

I think a lot of people respect your opinion and value your knowledge but wonder why if things have been so bad for 20 years why you continue to choose to torture yourself and closely follow his career, listen to his new music and visit a website dedicated to him

WTF!?

'Exclusive' release to some streaming website?

What CONclusion do we have to draw from that?

About P's IQ? About the unknowns being prepared?

How will PHYSICAL CDs reach the customer, especially overseas from the USSA?

Where can I read about these interesting details?

JUST GOT A BRILLIANT IDEA!!!!!
Tidal should rent movie theaters across the
country and have people get their first listen
of HITNRUN in movie theaters. Then they coukd
sign up after hearing the album. It would be a
great push for Tidal.
It would be great marketing for Prince.
A MASTERPIECE OF AN IDEA!!!!!

C'mon, Bart. jdcxc asked for artists with a SIMILAR TENURE and you list a bunch of artists that I've never heard of. How can they have a similar 37 year tenure and be unknown? Which one had a Purple Rain level release? Which one has a 37 year career? These are just obscure artists you like, not artists that parallel Prince. Try again. Just sayin... wink

Sadly yes. I believe most everyone here would have listened to the album on the day of its release in this manner. Mostly because it would probably be a lot easier.

AndyKeen said it. If i just can't buy it from Amazon...if I'm actually supposed to piss away money on Tidal to listen to one album...well, fuck you three times. Illegal download here as well.

This is an interesting response. It seems like Prince fans really don't want the man to own his masters and release music on his terms. Everything Prince did was a ploy from 'the internet is dead' to pulling his music off of streaming services(owning your own masters allows one to negotiate on his behalf without input from warners, I can't understand why so many fans here, who are informed, missed this point). This was a clear negotiating tactic to see which streaming service would give Prince and his music the best opportunity and Tidal won the exclusive streaming rights for the album and will also stream Prince's catalog. If Prince is satisfied with the compensation he's getting from Tidal why would Prince's fans feel such rage about it? The same fans that wanted Prince to own his masters and had the right to release music however he saw fit. The same fans that were fine when Prince released new albums for free in newspapers or along with concert tickets or via direct download. I find it strange that people who regularly post comments and intimate feelings about various subjects on a website are suddenly less technically astute about listing to music from a streaming service. Still, just because Tidal has exclusive streaming rights doesn't mean the album will not be released at a later date on a CD. On another note, I would invite all of you to the 3rdeyegirl youtube account to view a cool video of an orchestra tracking a new song. Sounds very promising.

First, my complaints have nothing to do with whether or not Prince has the right to do this sort of thing. I actually don't care whether Prince owns his old masters or someone else does. The man is doing fine financially, or should be, either way. He is more than able to follow his whims. I don't insist that he release anything at all. All I care about is being able to own everything he does release, so I can enjoy it, when I want, where I want--without paying someone else for that ability indefinitely. And I'd like to be able to do that simply and legally as much as possible. Is that so wrong?

Just for the record, I'm not wild about any release strategies that restrict the music's availability in strange ways. I think everything released should be available to own for pretty much everyone, at a reasonable cost. I think everything else is ridiculous, honestly. If he wants to release some stuff free, do so--at a standard, consistent location, either his own or some mainstream spot. Make it about the music, not this bizarre "Where am I now foolishness." Other independent artists, both small and large, have worked this out. They use their own sites, or something like Bandcamp, and music is there for customers without a lot of messing around. Save the "doing it his own way" for the music--that's where it matters. As to the issue of whether there will be a purchase option on HITNRUN--who knows? For now, we are left with word from the Prince camp that mentions only the stream, and, since he does what he wants when he wants, we have no idea what will happen.

Thanks for pointing out the string session--I hope that whatever their working on becomes available for me to own a copy of sometime in the future.

[Edited 8/9/15 7:46am]

I've seen the mentions of physical release now--but the rest of this still applies.

I'm happy to reveal EXCLUSIVELY what Bart's opinion will be on Prince's next two albums

Cream Factory (2016)

This is what is smells like when Princey decides 3EG are the new Wendy and Lisa. Sounds like everyone had toy instruments and the "engineer" recorded the whole thing on a iPad.

Epochal Symbol of the Zeitgeist (2017)

Oh look, it's Princey wanting to sound important, so someone sent him a couple of thesaurus links. Prententious tripe the famz will gobble whole in the hope of feeling more intelligent.

Artists seem to think they can play games like this now. It's like Hulu vs. Netflix vs Amazon with tv shows. This one has that show, but not the other one. However artists would be wise to remember, an album is not a tv show. Unlike 13 or 22 episodes, an album can be downloaded for free in less than a minute with a high speed connection. Make it easily available for everyone on the day of release, or suffer the consequences.
