As I said before, I most likely wouldn't listen to the other 'artists' on Tidal, so I have no interest in subscribing.

Unless Prince releases this via some other media (CD, Itunes, 3rdeyetunes) I'll be getting it 'illegally.'

Despite Prince not liking old people, he might need to accept the fact that a good portion (the majority?) of his fan base has 'grown up' along with him & doesn't use whatever the lastest hip distribution channel is.

These are the people who do support him, buy his latest shit, jump through his latest hoop & continue to follow him.

And I have to admit, if Tidal was just some halfcocked Prince streaming service, I probably WOULD fall for it & subscribe.

But it's not & I have no interest in paying for a bunch of shit that I won't listen to anyway.

Didn't you read the press release? Prince doesn't need US old fans, that supported his special brand of BS all these decades, so that his ungrateful ass wouldn't fade away into obscurity like so many artists before him. Oh no, he has new fans now, "who just love to hear what Prince has to say, rather than wanting to always hear that classic Purple Rain Prince sound." They're called the "Purple Collective" or "Purple Army or as I refer to them the...

So don't sweat it. I'm sure they'll be crashing Tidals servers in a massive sign-up just for access to Prince's latest droppings, any minute now. bored2

So I guess it really IS a 'Spotify exclusive.'

I saw that too. Seeing how different it is from HARDROCKLOVER, it'd make sense it's not intended for the same project. But who knows what that nickel b saying...all pseudo-cryptic and shit...it just may be in hitnrun....

I'm willing to bet HitnRun Phase 1 obviously will be released on TIDAL Sept 7 and something comes after for Phase 2 will be FREE URSELF on SPOTIFY...

There was an entire thread about "what if Prince would set up his own streaming service" recently and all sane persons involved pointed out that it would be a massive failure. Yet here's someone proposing that exact same idea (in the bit I responded to). I mean, don't they know about LotusFlow3r.com? Where do Prince fans get this insane idea that Prince has a large enough fan base to support such idiocy?

.

Also: I've bene proven right over and over again. I was proven right about the first version of NPGMC. I was proven right about Rave. I was proven right about LotusFlow3r.com. Etcetera etcetera.

.

But you lot wanna pretend I'm not.

.

You lot counter me saying that he doesn't promote albums when he doesn't play its songs live by reminding me that at one concert he played half a minute of one of the songs from the album.

.

You lot keep insisting Prince sells out gigs whenever he turns up anywhere, but the reality is that he's had some massive flops in recent years.

.

You lot were all over the "announcement" of this album some weeks ago and claimed it was goign to be released in early August, and as it turned out... nope, yet another time you failed to learn your lesson, you still fell for the vague hype. "Stare" (or whatever that album's name was) was going to be released this Summer. Ain't happening. Last November we were goign to get that NPG album, you lot said. Didn't happen. Hell, even this upcoming exclusive stream isn't exactly a "real" release, now is it? Or are you goign to the record shop anyway, "just in case Prince will surprise us and deliver physical CDs"? We've had these phony non-announcements for more than 15 years, and time and time again you lot pretend they're written in stone, whereas in fact they often contain very little information.

.

Wanna impress me? Show me that you've LEARNED from those experiences.

You spelt been incorrectly.

Being a multi millionnare doesn't mean anything anymore these days... Prince has bills just like anyone else and cutting deals like this one entitles him the freedom to create more music at his on pace...

.

I just love how famz continue to defend Prince's shitty business decisions with the most ludicrous reasons.

.

Lemme get started on debunking your nonsense by givign a couple of links. This and this and this and this etc. That's just a small selection of upcoming releases. You might notice that these are box sets and deluxe releases for artists that have sold a fraction of what Prince has sold. Yet somehow it is economically viable for those releases to exist, but Prince cannot release his albums on CD (or heaven forbid, vinyl).

.

Sure, PP costs a lot to run. Wanna know how you can fund that? With a steady stream of income. Not by searching for ad-hoc deals that pay you millions if you're lucky.

.

But apparently I'm an "armchair manager" who doesn't know anything, while Prince is obviously a business genius who for some reason now has struck a deal with a desperate and rapidly failing streaming service.

Has it actually been confirmed that there will be no physical release? Or that Tidal is the ONLY way anyone is going to hear this album?

Isn't Daft Punk's crappy movie on there as a Tidal exclusive? Along with the video to Rhiannas new single... of course anyone googling "Tidal Exclusive" is presented with a page full of Prince links.

Linking to some small time releases means nothing mate. Anthony Phillips has released a box set... so what? how many did it sell? Did he make millions? Did it sell anything close to what AOA sold? The fact it saw a release is not in itself proof that at was profitable. That's like saying "Well PlectrumElectrum was released by WB so it MUST have been financially viable".

Yes people still buy CDs, and LPs. The reason is sound quality. Streamed music, even of higher quality, cannot match CDs and LPs to any reasonable extent if you have anything remotely resembling ears. Anyway, Tidal isn't around where I live. bootleg blues, then...

Your first month is free so technically you're not being asked to pay for anything.

If your car stereo doesn't have bluetooth you can get an adapter for like £5. Plug it in and send any audio from your phone to your car stereo. Just saying.

Well assuming Prince turned to TIDAL because of the poor sales of the previous albums, then what's he going to turn to after TIDAL don't give him a lot of money for this?

HITNRUN phase one (with HARDROCKLOVER) on Tidal

HITNRUN phase two (with Stare) on Spotify

HITNRUN phase three (3rdeye sophomore album) on Apple Music

[Edited 8/8/15 6:09am]

yed I wouldn't be surprised if Prince made a deal also with Spotify and Apple music for the other 2 albums and much point in that direction since Stare is not included on HITNRUN and only available on Spotify

Same here

I see what y'all saying....but.... The ONLY CD player I have is in my car...and it skips summin fierce. I have a record player...but its stuck in the house and not portable, and tbh...it gets pretty dusty. I get internet connections virtually everywhere...98 percent of the time they're free or included in my costs of having a phone/data plan. My internet connections are much more portable and reliable than ANY physical media players I have. I like to take advantage of that rather than shun it. Do they even sell discman anymore? Is there a CD slot on my phone I don't know about? No worries TBH....I just stick the audio plug from my stereo into my phone or comp and bypass all that physical bs... I don't understand why people hold on SOOOO hard to older, more difficult ways to listen to music.

It's not older or harder. It's just better quality. The streaming and MP3 pen-drive-music revolution is the only 'upgradation' in commercial music format history which involves a degradation in music quality. Frankly, MP3 sucks. lossless files aren't easily available yet for all artists, and if you do download lossless and then listen via bluetooth, you don't know zilch because bluetooth involves some compression too. cds and LPs are easier, classy, lossless and have some character. Plus you own them, it's not just digital rights management.

BUT...if you can't spot the difference between a CD and an inferior digital file, or simple don't care, it's up to you. As an example, listen to the part in Jam of the Year when the piano solo kicks in, on 320 MP3 or ALAC or whatever you have. Then listen to the CD. I think the difference should be apparent.

This has shined a light on downloading vs. hard copy releases. I'm all about technology and such, but I won't apologize for enjoying owning a hard copy release of a Prince album. Part of the joy of buying vinyl or cds is the album art (inside and out), the lyrics (if included) and the liner notes. I would always read them to find out who wrote what, who did what, who thanked who, etc. It's about the whole "package" -- not just the music. And artists over the years understood that. Sometimes the covers have been just as classic as the music inside.

That is now a dying art. Younger people will never know or appreciate that custom.

That being said, I won't necessarily complain if Prince ends up making HITNRUN available as a download only. I'm just pointing out that just because something is a tradition doesn't always make it a bad or "outdated" thing.

I don't imagine a lot of people paid to watch "Rave Un2 The Year 2000" broadcast fifteen years ago & I expect even less would pay Tidal in 2015 just to hear HITNRUN.

I think a lot of business people see Dollar $igns with the "Prince name" but quickly find themselves tied to an artist who doesn't sell units or promotes his work.

Add HITNRUN to the pile of $1 "Lotusflower" discs, bargin bin "21 Nights" books, and leftover 20Ten newspapers because they'll be little demand for new Prince music on Tidal.

Prince conducts himself like a relevant artist, but no one has time for the hoops

Like mail stamps and faxes before email. People need to move on. I remember how I couldn't wait for the stragglers to to finally move on so we could get rid of useless technology. Move along because no one will stay behind with you.

.

Faxes are still a big deal in Japan, but that's a backwards country, right?

Coming from a business world, it sounds crazy to have them in this day and age yes. But I would bet you its not modern companies that still use them.

As for collecting, yeah people collect bottle caps, corks, cigarette butts and hoarders because people collect all kinds of stuff, true. And I have vinyl myself that I would never get rid of either. Large cardboard sleeves, great photography, art directors, liner notes, a cool physical object that someone took care in creating and produces sounds in a unique and warm way that I would say sounds better to my ear than any cd.

Now we get to the cd age. Sure like cigarette butts some care and treasure them, but such cheaply produced plastic disks that sound to my ears as good as any digital media, that I we take out of their crummy plastic cases and place into a cd case with all the other faceless cds? Collectable? Dure but not so much. Especially like Prince who puts no effort on the presentation artwork whatsoever.

I will say that I store files away like everyone should, I use two cloud storage solutions so he files are there for me to access whenever I want.

So to sum things up, quality products like vinyl albums, artwork, Ferrari's, diamonds and gold keep the original. And For the Gold and diamonds keep like digital downloads, somewhere safe like a safety deposit box somewhere by a trusted and reputable company.

Two free songs? Stare is streaming on Spotify and can be heard for free. Hardrocklover is for sale on iTunes.

Not sure how you calculate that. To listen legally you pay a minimum of $10 per month. I've never paid $120 per year to own any piece of music, let alone to know when I stop paying, the music vanishes.
.
Yes, I understand that a Tidal subscription gets you access to hundreds of other artists and thousands of other songs. Not interested. My music budget is allocated elsewhere.
.
Hard to blame anyone for finding other means to get this one.

I'm guessing you won't confirm this, KCOOL--but this sounds almost like someone who maybe, just possibly, isn't all that excited about the actual announcement in absolutely all its apparent details, and so he's chosen to look forward in the hope that a possible "Phase 2" will make it all better?

Well, that still leaves the Spotify song as a peculiar mystery, doesn't it?

Oh, as to my response to the announcement--really? You've got to be kidding me--but I hold out no strong hope for a sensible "buy it" option, even in download form.

I suspect I'll eventually possess it in some form--but I'd prefer to pay him for it (but not just to listen to it as long as his agreement with Tidal holds up--or as long as Tidal holds up--and I certainly don't intend to continue paying for it monthly... that would be ridiculous).
