More than anything else, this song reminds me of When Eye Lay My Hands On U. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I like it, it's not a brilliant song, but it's got an edge, something that's been missing in Prince's music for a while. I hope that continues. [Edited 7/3/15 1:39am] Hundalasiliah!

I don't really post on here anymore, but made an exception for this track. If this song had been released as part of "old" Prince's catalogue, everyone would hail it as a classic now.
It's very very very good.

I liked it off the bat, but like it a bit more with each listen.

Obviously in the minority here but the track does nothing for me. Sounds like Prince trying to sound like someone else.

Loving it more and more, and excited about the alleged forthcoming album. While the guitar and vocals are what grabbed me first, I'm appreciating the bass now, too. I'm assuming it's all Prince? I'm curious about credits...

Oh noyou're not that kind of "fam" but you're the exact opposite as you have a desperate need to convince others that Prince's output of the past 20 years is flat out horrible in every way imaginable, which makes you just as robotically reactive as the "famz" you condemn.
AOA is a great album, too bad your automatic dislike of anything post-1995 meansyou disliked the album six months before it came out -- just like the next one that has yet to come out.
As for this new song, you already rushed and listened to it before most "famz" could or cared to do so, it's not like just because I liked AOA I immediately drop whatever I'm doing to listen to his latest track 12 times in a row ready to declare it a masterpiece, like your caricatural notions suggest a "fam" does. I don't even know if I like it or not yet and won't be shy about not liking it if I don't so stay tuned -- I know you're dying to know what I think

For me not really however I still hear Dear Mr Christian and now also flavors of Come On in there too...however the track really stands very well on its own as a new sound for P The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I hope it's just me, but the guitar riff kinda sounds like Florida State's annoying 'tomahawk chop.' Now I can't unhear it. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYc_s4vLFNI "The password is what."

Maybe I should listen to both songs back to back and see if I hear what you hear. I like When I Lay... a lot, so it's worth a try.

When Eye Lay My Hands On U is much better !!
But I do like this song. The first time I heard the song, I got the feeling that he's holding back in the screams and the guitarplaying [Edited 7/3/15 7:57am] How beautiful do the words have to B, before they conquer every heart

BartVanHemelen said: Abysmal production, a blatant attempt at imitating modern r&b (but "improved" by Prince), pathetic lyrics that seem to have been written by a pubescent boy. . So of course the famz label this a masterpiece. Another example of Bart's TIN EAR...he didn't like Dirty Mind until Purple Rain hit big. Great edgy Funk Rock Song!

It's neither abysmal nor a masterpiece, just a cool track. The production is by far better than on his last album, which isn't saying much, but much better non the less. It sounds like Prince through and through. It does not in any way ape anyone. The guitar sound is quintessential Prince.

There's definitely a resemblance, especially the first few times, but it deviates a bit towards the end. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

BTW, all those folks who wanted P to work with outside prducers on their best day couldnt do a song like this..?love, Pharrell etc [Edited 7/3/15 11:09am]

Love the song, love the lyrics, love the attitude! Classic P. Whomever said this sounds like him trying to sound like somebody else....really! To many tracks in his repertoire that shows he's capable of this himself, but it doesn't feel derivative to me. Just a dude loving his guitar and a reflecting on a real or imagined encounter with a chick who likes it HARD! It ain't the drummer, its the guitar player!

i want to be able to buy a version of this with an extra minute of guitar at the end. i'd pay for it, gladly. throw in an extended version of X's Face and it's all good for me. cannot wait for this album. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
