Josh has a tendency to try to make things "cool" in the cheesiest, most cliched ways. I can't stand Way Back Home because there are too many cliched elements to list. I like U Know, but Josh's most obvious contribution, which is Hannah's "Unh, Uhhuh" that plays throughout the song, is SO terrible.

This one isn't doing it for me. I like the atmosphere and the guitar is HOT...but the song itself? There is nothing really there that makes it memorable.

Love the guitar playing (that´s Prince, not Donna, right? ). Not really into the lyrics though. They are not bad, but also not that great...I think they are, like most of his lyrics these days, not as easy to relate to like his classic songs.

The vocal delivery is nice but I don´t like how he sings "scream" and "she likes to paaaarty haaard". That sounds a bit corny, but hey, I like it for what it is and don´t expect the perfect pop song from him anymore.

Musicwise it is a step in the right direction.

Lyricwise, not my cup of tea.

That´s the feeling I have with most of his current songs. They are "just ok", not really bad, not really great, but most of them have the potential of "Could have been great if........."

And that´s why he has the most critical fans.

It´s the little details that are still great, and it´s also some other little details that take away the greatness.

As far as I´m concerned, sometimes simplicity is the key....songs that the average Joe can relate to. His classic songs were highly personal stories but written in such a way that everybody could related to them (When You Were Mine, When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, If I Was Your Girlfriend).

His current songs are still highly personal, but rather cryptic or to far removed from the average listeners day to day life experience.

If, as you say, he's a Santana/Hendrix ripoff, it's not a metter of age--if he's a ripoff now, he always was. Nothing radical has happened in which he lost some distinctiveness to his playing. Or was there some time when you think he did "play somethingtotally unique"?

I don't buy that he's a ripoff, then or now--but most of what he's done has always shown his influences pretty clearly. At any point in his career, anyone who wanted to could say of his guitar, "He's 80% Santana and 5% Hendrix and 15% funny faces"--it wouldn't be accurate, but there'd be other people in the room to nod their heads and say, "Yep, uh-huh. You know that's right."
