I find it interesting that there are so many artists in these lists that I've never heard of in my life. I guess there it a lot of great music out there yet to be heard by my ears.

Join the Dots... I was tracking down a lot of the more recent cd singles from 4:19 Dream, and a few maxi singles from the Wild Mood Swings era. Don't remember where Join the Dots leaves off, but it is on my short list of Cure purchases next time the Cure bug bites me.

I'll revisit A-ha album, especially "Hunting High & low" song. See if there is something I missed.

I forgot I have most of AC/DC's catalog. I burn out on them fast so they only get about a 1 week rotation per year at best.

Have most of Janet Jackson's stuff.

Have some U2, Just a handful of Springsteen tracks off of ITunes.

I don't really like any other artist anywhere near as much as I like P. There's no one else I would go to see 4 times in the space of a few months let's put it that way.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

Within english speaking music:

.

1) Elizabeth Fraser (and Cocteau Twins related music and artists)

2) Peter Murphy

3) Nick Cave

4) PJ Harvey

5) Dead Can Dance (Brendan Perry / Lisa Gerrard solo works)

.

If we were talking Spanish music I'd have a completely different list.

Change it one more time..

0 - Prince (my only bootlegged artist)

Own their entire official catalogue (or very close)

1 - Bob Dylan
2 - Stevie Wonder
3 - Joni Mitchell
4 - David Bowie
5 - James Brown
---
6 - The Beatles
7 - Parliament/Funkadelic
8 - Bruce Springsteen
9 - Jimi Hendrix
10 - Marvin Gaye
11 - The Rolling Stones
12 - Bob Marley
13 - Sly and the Family Stone
14 - Curtis Mayfield
15 - Frank Zappa
16 - Aretha Franklin

(and many, many more; obnoxiously so)

If I were 30 years older and still English speaking in America: Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk, Dinah Washington.

If we're going non-english I'd think hard about putting Fito Paez, Marisa Monte and Gilberto Gil on my list.

I'm extremely surprised at the lists above, please note that I don't mean any criticism, only genuine surprise:

- Mostly rock acts: many more than R&B even though there's a fair deal of classic funk and even jazz acts as well, but u'd believe that prince fans are more R&B-oriented than rock and this is not the case.

- Mostly conservative: most of the acts are from the 60's to 80's.

- Mostly mainstream: lotsa big Top-10 names, much less underground acts. I expected more hipsters lol

- No love at all for electronic music, which also come as a surprise to me since u'd believe prince fans would love synths and machines but no, the electronic scene is quite ignored eek

This is a really interesting thread for, at least to me: it shows that the demographics is quite different from what I'd have expected nod

fortunately, and adding to diversity, bob marley evades the above list.

I have a wide taste across r&b, jazz, classical and funk. Rather than just listen to old stuff from Marley and The Police and Hendrix and Bruce Spingsteen etc I look for new music.

.

And my absolute favorite artist other than Prince is Allen Stone. Check him out. Just blows me away. Every song a gem. He's released two albums plus heaps of other songs on youtube. Third new album soon and he put out 4 new songs as pre listen. So good. Plays with band and just solo acoustic.

.

He's R&B/Soul, a mix of Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Jamiroquai and who knows who else but white and about 25.

His vevo channel and just search on youtube for heaps more videos including live shows.

oh good topic!

Lets see:

Led Zepplin (i have all their studio songs through "baby come on home" (I have not gotten any of the new remasterswith the new material: Cool story Jimmy Page contacted super fans to check to make sure the "New" stuff had not been bootleged!

The Doors: I have about 2/3 of their songs. But none of the special editions. I had a beer with John... we talked about beer.

Hank Williams Jr: I have very few of his but from the albums "Family Tradition" through "Montana Cafe" I was a huge fan! I was in High School in 83-88 and when I lived in Galveston, at Ball High School there was a Jukebox that had a mix of rock, country, and RandB... and I would rush to play some Hank before all the popular songs got played! (they had pretty much banned prince as they thought he was too dirty!)
