Yeah! I knew somebody was gonna mention some classical music. That's why I'm loving this thread: it shows that Prince fans come in all shapes and sizes from all sides of the musical platform. hug

I have many other favourite musical artists, but on a scale of obsession I'd have to say Canadian prog band RUSH come in second to Princeypoo.

Although, for 2 years of my life I pretty much worshipped The Cure and some other similar spoopy goff bands

Tom Waits - This guy is in a battle with Prince for my favourite musical artist. I personally think Tom is a better songwriter thn Dylan, but is music isn't for everyone. lol

Bruce Springsteen - FANTASTIC songwriter and an even BETTER performer. Not even Prince could compete with the Boss in a live setting.

Bob Dylan - I became OBSESSED with this guy when I first strted smoking weed. One of Dylan's latter day albums, TIME OUT OF MIND, is one of the greatest things I've ever heard in my life.

Radiohead - Only recently started listening to radiohead, but Thom Yorke's voice could soothe a bat outta hell. lol

Damien Rice - 'O' is one of the greatest pieces of musical and lyrical art ever made. By anyone. Ever.

Others include Mozart, Bowie, Aphex Twin, Stevie Wonder, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Fleetwood Mac, Kraftwerk, Hozier, Midlake, Paul Simon, Funkadelic, James Brown, Frightened Rabbit, Fleet Foxes, The Police, Jean Michele-Jarre and all sorts of interesting crap! smile

Only Sananda Maitraya (formerly Terence Trent D'Arby) is on Prince's level, to me.

Sananda is a truer poet, while Prince much more versatile in musical composition.

Other favs include: The Cure, Billy Idol, Jesse Johnson, Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Rick James...

There's no one who really comes close, however Todd Rundgren's A Wizard, A True Star is my third favorite album of all time. Artists that I highly rate and consider to have a very strong discography. Todd Rundgren Jimi Hendrix The Pfunk mob, Funkadelic,Parlament, Bootsy Sly And The Family Stone. Stevie Wonder Bruce Springsteen. Steely Dan/ Donald Fagen. Prefab Sprout Terence trent D'arby D'angelo (only 2 albums, but two stone cold classics) Outkast. If Janelle Monae continues as she's been doing she could well join the above. Good call on Steely Dan.

Looking over some peeps lists...

I'm a big fan of The Cure also. I think I have about 90% of their stuff. Spent 2012 collecting cd singles for all the b-sides.

I like Madonna and Michael Jackson. I think it is weird that the only MJ album I own was a gift. Honestly can't remember the album name. The one right after "Bad".
Love Madonna's "true Blue" and especially "Like A Prayer"

Love Terence Trent D'Arby's first album. Second album... "She kissed me" was really good, the rest of the album I hated.

XTC - love Skylarking and Oranges & Lemons.

Big fan of Queen. Sadly only have the greatest hits CDs.

Love Culture Club, would never admit it in public.

Love most of Bowie's greatest hits.

Own the first 6 Lenny Kravitz albums. "5" is my favorite.

I have A-ha's first album. LOVE all of two songs. Take on me, sun always shines on tv. As much as I love those two songs, I find it interesting that someone would list this band in their top 5. I tried to,like the rest of the album. Couldn't.

You could have just bought 'Join The Dots' and you'd have been pretty much done...

You don't like 'Hunting High And Low'? Still their best song.
