Passive agressivity, leaving the spotlight to 3EG, letting other people be in front of the camera... all that points to intentional avoidance of standard self-promotion. Throwing out the promotional manual is nothing new for Prince, but he's getting pointedly minimalist.

It's like he's sending a message: "If you think signing back with Warners changed me, think again."

I think it served a duel purpose. Josh is WAY better in interview situations. He talked utter drivel but he talked without awkward silences. Plus it served as an advert for Paisley Park as a recording studio. "Kendrik Lamar is here", "Rita Ora was here" - Luring more artists to using the studios there. And thats better approach than RAVE. He can still be associated with pops here and now while doing his own thing and getting some production credit.

.

It was interesting seeing Maya react. When Josh played the Rita Ora track. Prince was quick to mention "Thats something the 3 of us worked on" prompting Maya to immediately ask Josh "is that you" - Josh says "yeh thats me". eek Someones getting slapped.

I don't have endless diatribes about how Prince sucks. I love AOA and have been raving about it on here for the last week. But this event was lame. There was very little content for the time it took. It was almost two hours!

yeah, you bang on and on and on and on. below is a list of your posts, which are on almost every page.

Wow. This fucking blows so far.

Dear Jesus...It's like watching a shitty high school play starring all the dumbest kids in the class.

Turn the volume off. Hit mute.

This sucks so far.Who is this numbskull host and when will she get off my tv?

My wife just said "I didn't think 3rd Eye Blind would look so lame."

Oh, God. Prince fucks everything up.

Okay, um, when will this NOT suck balls?

This is almost Rave Un2 the Year 2000 painful.

30 seconds of silence. Huh. This will sell AOA.

Yeah, this is bloody fucking awful. He might as well get Shelby and Larry up on stage. Is Doug E. busy tonight?

It's done already?!?? HAHAHAHAHA. What a fucking FAIL. Prince screws everythng up. I can't believe this is what he did with his Yahoo Live event. What. The. Fuck.

The NYTimes ran a story on this event. There were probably some people watching to see what the hype was about. Not a shitload, but some. And he definitely turned them all away.

Yeah. What a victory for him. WTF. Now he'll turn around and blame WB for lack of promotion. The guy writes great music but can't handle even the most basic elements of the business end of things. This event was pathetic.

They're still broadcasting despite the host saying that's a wrap. But there's nothing happening. Just an empty stage with AOA playing over it. WTF. Unmitigated, completely ridiculous, unprofessional failure.

Don't watch. Go to bed. Huge waste of time. It was fucking terrible.Yahoo billed it as a concert on their website today. Prince sent out a notice to Twin Cities people tonight that it was a concert. Quit defending bullshit.

I think most people were expecting something more than complete horseshit.

Here's the problem though: Even as a release party it was largely a failure. Sure, we saw some rooms at Paisley. Okay. But the host was terrible. Most of the time was completely wasted (people standing around, 3EG boring us about their clothes), and we learned *nothing* about the new albums. It was total amateur hour and a HUGE wasted opportunity.

This wasn't great. At all. Saying "he didn't have to do this" is ridiculous. He's not running a charity. He did a livestream album release party on a major platform, and it sucked ass. Even the clueless host said it was a "once in a lifetime opportunity." Why not make something useful out of it? Have an informed host? An interesting tour? Fewer than 60+ minutes of people standing around awkwardly? Less time spent scanning an empty stage? More songs from the albums played live? Some actual discussion and promotion of the albums? Yes, it was cool to hear snippets of unreleased songs. And I'm glad we got to see Josh at work because he seems cool and people here are really harsh on him. But Prince and company could have done so much more with this event. It was really pathetic.

Yes. A free meal that tastes like ass still tastes like ass.Perfectly said. I would add an "it sucked balls" of two, but well said.

It seems to me that anyone who is a staunch a defender of Prince would be mortified at how this host represented the man, his work and his inspirations. That would put you at the top of the list of people who should be embarrassed for him, not referring to it as a monumental piece of history.
.
We're on this site because there are things about Prince and his work that we agree are true works of art, songs that changed our lives and led us to support and follow his story. And like I said, I enjoy the both of the new albums. But sorry, facts are facts. Maya was either unprepared or uneducated or both. Looking for a younger audience isn't going to be successful by trotting out ignorance in a short skirt to trip all over herself and get the names of musicians and albums wrong. If we didn't expect better, we wouldn't be fans at all.

Like the live party or not the purpose of it was not to be a concert but a tie in to some sort of Live Nation/Yahoo deal which lead to AOA/PE being featured in Yahoo Music on Rollingstone

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/all-eyes-on-prince-20141001

And on Yahoo Live Nation Presents

https://music.yahoo.com/blogs/live/prince---3rdeyegirl-bear-gifts--kendrick-lamar-appearance--rita-ora-snippet-and-exclusive-paisley-park-tour-at-yahoo-live-set-072711744.html

The whole thing was meant to get 30 second clips of interesting sounds and a performance with Prince and Kendrick Lamar, which is getting a lot of buzz. If anything done last night promoted Prince, that performance did because it is being talked about.

Was the show the most smooth, clean, interesting thing of all time? No, but it wasn't intended to be because if Prince wanted to do a live concert to promote the albums it wouldn't be streamed on Yahoo, especially with two huge Prince fans working at CBS/Viacom/MTV. Just my opinion but the party served it's purpose, how good or bad it was is subjective.

Depends on how U look @ it! Eye'm sure prince knew, that she wasn't well versed on muziq history @ her age. I will only say. Maybe she shouldn't have named any names on that mural? Just to be safe. She is the one that should feel bad not us! This was her first time in attendance obviously! So the excitement and the rush of her going, from room to room didn't help.

I thought her giddiness, sense of humor, and excitement fit the overall event. But I do see where U coming from. It was a cringe moment. Now that I think about it. It was VERY disrespectful. Especially when she just walked right past the PURPLE RAIN MOTORCYCLE!!! disbelief

I feel the whole thing was last minute & not really planned. So considering the circumstances. She worked with whwat was given to her. Poor thing biggrin

Obviously not. She stated that she took the picture for the AOA cover in front of the Purple Rain platinum albums and worked on it in the production office. I'm pretty sure she wasn't trying to disrespect him, she just doesn't know the history like we do...and that's not the real Purple Rain motorcylce.

Wow... very Org!

From the onset, I expected anything from the records streaming live with 10 minutes of interviews and 10 minutes of performance to pretty much what happened.

What I did not expect: him coming right out performing several songs from the album. That would have been cool, but Prince has given a few signs of his reluctance by sending 3EG to GMA and not appearing in Breakfast Can Wait -- so it's hard not to notice that he's not self-promoting himself like a new star would.

I agree. Maybe Prince really is becoming a teacher and is taking a step back from being up front. He is slowly easing the people around him to the front instead. All the while, he is tutoring, rather than owning, his proteges. One day they will graduate and be on their own as Prince takes in some other lucky students to begin the most exclusive musicology course available in the world today.

Keep up the personal attacks. Nice work. I have committed the sin of criticizing something about Prince and must be punished.

nope. biggrin you've committed the sin of being able to dish out, but not take, criticism.

oh, btw, mr. poor mee! ouch! stop! you're hurting meeee!

just because you keep bleating about how i'm making personal attacks on you doesn't make it so.

i'm expressing my opinion about your posts and your presence here. i find your personal attacks on prince and his crew to be so repetitious as to be completely uninteresting.

and besides, considering the attacks you posted against just about everyone who managed and produced the show, i'd think your skin would be thick enough to take even the msot carefully calculated insult.

or maybe you feel a lot better when you're slagging off people who (hopefully) don't know about it and will never respond?

The whole thing was embarassing. It actually shed a lot of light on where he is at the moment, unfortunately.

And I think that Mya chick was a Funny or Die plant.

http://www.youtube.com/user/shamelessmaya is her youtube channel. Almost half a million subscribers. Who will no doubt get the lowdown The way things went in terms of technicalities it could have been a lot worse. At least Maya was able to crack a joke or two.

Half a million subscribers CAN be wrong.

YES this event was "free" if you don't consider your own TIME spent watching it. Not to mention how much money was made from you sitting in front of that page/screen.

Wow...

Passive agressivity, leaving the spotlight to 3EG, letting other people be in front of the camera... all that points to intentional avoidance of standard self-promotion. Throwing out the promotional manual is nothing new for Prince, but he's getting pointedly minimalist.

OR - Prince could be sticking to the shadows to genuinely give the kids the spotlight. Cameras aren't going to focus on the new team if Prince is hanging about.

Subscribers are never "wrong" they subscribe to the content they enjoy. Almost half a million people found her on Youtube and hit subscribe. I'm not one of them. But she clearly has an audience.

The event was free. No need for quotation marks. Nobody who watched it paid anything. I watched it in my free time - I could have watched it at work on company time - either way no currency was exchanged.

Yes Prince got paid for it, and Yahoo/Livenation probably got something out of it too... whats your point? - Thats how the internet works. Facebook makes money every time you log on - are they sending you a cheque?

Maya was not a walking Prince encyclopedia... so what? I'd rather her genuinely excited than someone like BartVH dry and going into endless details about when the carpets were laid. Newsflash - nobody outside of prince.org gives a fuck about the associated one hit wonders Prince worked with in the 80's.

When the carpets were laid. Hah! We're they pile or berber?

It was my free time which isn't worth nothing. Life is short so I pulled the plug after Mya made me uncomfortable with her hosting which contributed little value to my experience. I don't give Prince my time for pretty smiles that just show up. The world is full of that. Mya had zero exclusives to offer. The show could have gone on without her.

I'll know better next time and will let my friends know you can't depend on Prince for his entertainment services.

In fact I'm going to Angie's List now...

ONLY POSITIVE COMMENTS ARE ALLOWED. ALL DISSENTERS WILL BE SILENCED. EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

Oh, I see how it is. Only positive comments are okay. Got it. Well, let me repeat one of my sentiments from the other thread about the live stream. It got left out of the Collected Works of King Sausage: Vol. 1 that one of my other fans compiled above, which was unfortunate but perhaps not accidental nor unexpected.

I think Josh came off as very nice, friendly, and cool. If AOA (which I love) is any indication of the benefits he can bring to Prince's work, I greatly look forward to their future collaborations.
