^ thank you for this link to billboard.com

There sure were far too many lows:

1. the live concert was too short, sucked they played like they were not rehearsed, what a fail
2. the live concert included a rapper, personnally I dislike rap and don't care if he's even a famous one
3. too much hype far too long, with that interviewer Maya, she looked so nervous, uncomfortable

a few highs:

1. the 2 new song snippets were cool, and also an acoustic new song/ video snippet.
2. I liked the band interview about their clothes, and I am not even a woman
3. I can't think of any more highs to be honest

conclussion, I was so disappointed, I had expected a great concert, but it was a mess so to speak. The band playing was really poor.

The NPGQ sounded fucking incredible. The mix over stream was lovely as well which makes P's performance even more shocking. I can't believe musicians of that calibre were in the other room while Prince made do with 3rdEyeGirl

PRINCE SOUNDS BETTER WITH A BIGGER BAND! Always has. The band he had for the Musicology tour and the one he took to the O2 in 2007. That's the sort of standard you expect when you think of Prince.

Disagree. While this was a shocking performance from Prince & 3reyegirl, I think the band is the best thing to happen to his live show in a long time. This doesn't really reflect that though...

I honestly cant believe people are moaning about this, he didnt have to do it and doesnt owe people anything, just be grateful he did, as we all know its not always easy getting anything out of him so take what he does give as a gift.

You know i kind of felt a bit bad for them girls, they were excited to show off their clothes
But those looked like the same outfits we seen them in promotional pictures like a year ago?
You would think they have new gear like Prince does. I sure hope they dont have to wear the same at every show or promotion

Ill attempt to write the lyrics of the B-sides we heard tonight during the live stream. Albeit, they may be incorrect so feel free to chime in to edit.

The acoustic blues song lyrics:

"If you and I were alone in a quiet place,

theres one thing I swear

I'd make you lick the tears right off my face

Cause you put each one of them there

If you and I were astronaughts Id blast you off lol

off into space

Find some moon and leave you on maroon

chained to a mountain like (wave?)

not sure where you came from

but I know where youre going

you broke my heart a dozen times without even knowing

Its (?) sad to say, thats how I feel

and the slightest bruise upon my heel

if you and I were testifying in a critical case

everyone would see who you are

trapped in a corner with that smug look on your face

trying to find the keys to your raggedy car lol

Like (man?) running in place while your (bumping?) tears get chased

dangling from your (?) cigar.

Trapped in the past, You're going to get no where fast

the (time?) youll find is really just (fog?)"

Revelation lyrics:

"Revelation (2x)

Its coming back to me now,

you and i were meant to be together and (?)

Revelation (2x)

It seems like you've always been here

Now that you are, stay with me forever my dear

Revelation (2x)

XX Face/Xcess Space/The Exes Face lyrics:

(inaudible slowed down talking)

"A few months ago,

Or maybe it was years

twas a heart break and so many tears

how she gonna make it out here on her own

a body like that should never be alone

a kiss on the stair way

another mans embrace

how was she to know just what was taking place

too busy with the jugular and how it tastes

to remember what she saw, XX face (Xcess space)

A long time ago

or maybe yesterday

you and I together..." (then Joshua cut it off) neutral

Edit: I put spaces and paragraphs in this but prince.org doesn't like to use paragraphs apparently.

The snippets of all the songs sounded really good though. And despite the annoying host, I enjoyed getting to see some of Paisley Park.

I didn't find Maya annoying, I thought she did good considering the circumstances. however she really didn't know anything about Prince lol which I found hilarious since Prince often seems to hire the most inappropriate person for the job. Look at his LotusFlower website or his model dancer Damaris who dances like she is spasing the hell out. In fact, Ive never seen a sista who dances like a white girl before I saw Damaris. But thats how Prince roles. As long as they're cute and have followers and Maya has followers and is cute. There it is. wink

I hope we never see Mya in front of a mic or camera again. She reminded me of a vapid obnoxious house party guest that somehow wanders in, late, with no real connection to the host or the host's closest friends. I can't help but think preparation would have helped avoid some of these dreadful moments:

  • Learning she is responsible for the AOA album artwork? Some of the artwork's more questionable elements now make sense.

  • Drawing attention to the timeline in the hall, then having nothing of value to say about it. You are apparently the album's graphic artist (let's NOT use the word designer) and you are passing by some very iconic work. You choose to goof on Parade's photography. Nothing personal/professional of value to offer? Not even an endorsement for having the opportunity?

  • Drawing attention to the award in the hall, then dismissing it with "... ohhh I GET it!" Really? You find Prince's Paisley Park "employee of the month" award and all you can say is "...ohhh I GET it!"?

  • Introducing Hannah as "Josh's wife" then asking 3rdEyeGirl about "being initiated". Congrats, you just belittled Hannah. It clearly wasn't well received. Then you announced you haven't been paying attention to Prince's very public views on women.

I pulled the plug after that... couldn't bear to watch it anymore.

In regards to people slagging off the performance, it wasn't the band that sucked - it was the straight-out-the-desk live stream mix. It would've sounded mega if we'd had the sound of the room in there as well. Straight-out-the-desk mixes always sound pretty lame with harder, rockier music. I know from first hand experience! A lot more forgiving with the sort of stuff NPGQ was playing. I guarantee it would've sounded as good as gold if you were in the room.

I literally just saw it advertised on Yahoo's site as "Prince LIVE CONCERT." Right on my iPad, computer, and Apple TV.

Prince.org, Rollingstone, billboard, etc billed it a live release party.

Here's the problem though: Even as a release party it was largely a failure. Sure, we saw some rooms at Paisley. Okay. But the host was terrible. Most of the time was completely wasted (people standing around, 3EG boring us about their clothes), and we learned *nothing* about the new albums. It was total amateur hour and a HUGE wasted opportunity.

This wasn't great. At all. Saying "he didn't have to do this" is ridiculous. He's not running a charity. He did a livestream album release party on a major platform, and it sucked ass. Even the clueless host said it was a "once in a lifetime opportunity." Why not make something useful out of it? Have an informed host? An interesting tour? Fewer than 60+ minutes of people standing around awkwardly? Less time spent scanning an empty stage? More songs from the albums played live? Some actual discussion and promotion of the albums? Yes, it was cool to hear snippets of unreleased songs. And I'm glad we got to see Josh at work because he seems cool and people here are really harsh on him. But Prince and company could have done so much more with this event. It was really pathetic.

Yes - it was a wasted opportunity. But we should know by now that Prince doesn't give a damn about that sort of thing. He just does whatever he wants in whatever way he wants. He has never marketed himself well. But we did hear some new, great music, met the band and had a peek inside PP. He played live for a bit too.

Wrong, they played Thankful N Thoughtful by Sly & Family Stone...not Time.

Time, yes. The record played then was stopped right before that.

Thats because Prince isnt good at "commercial". Everything he does is organic and natural. The rest of the world doesnt understand that and to be fair, they're not really supposed to. Prince is out of touch and needs someone in the real world to translate things into the real world. It may have been wise for Maya to have had her own plan but seeing as she was a complete newb, Prince sorta through her to the wolves. There really should be a coordinator for these things or someone with better PR comprehension who is equally as creative as Prince but who is more organized and who could have taken the reigns (sp?).

Ok this was never billed as a concert. It was billed as a album release party and their were reports that Prince wasn't even going to perform and yet he plays tracks from both albums and has a host tour paisley, you got sneak peeks at 3-4 unreleased new songs, a couple jazz numbers and the dude actually gets on stage and does some songs and then does a duet with Kendrick but that isn't enough. He's gotta give you people a full suite of clean performances just because you say so. It's just supposed to be a live release party, streamed on line. Lots of people have unrealistic expectations. Let's compare to Kanye who had people believing he would perform only to watch a single video being played on the side of a building. and yet this is the worst thing to ever be a thing? Really? eek Prince fans are sooooo weird.

Yahoo billed it as a concert on their website today. Prince sent out a notice to Twin Cities people tonight that it was a concert. Quit defending bullshit.

Give me a break. She had one job to do. She seemed like she was making everybody else uncomfortable, spilling her awkwardness everywhere. Especially when she introduced Hannah (first and foremost) as Josh's wife then kept needling the band about being "initiated" aka being manipulated into stripping. I'm sure her family and friends love her. But she was out of her depth.

Agreed! If they chose another host that wasn't so GD awkward I feel like the whole experience would have been much smoother & easier to watch. OH well, at least we got to peak into PP, that in itself was cool for me, but she damn near ruined the whole thing 'spilling her awkwardeness everwhere'.
