I don't perscribe to the (usually American) need to catagorise everything in a neat little box.
I mean, what is 'Urban'??
But if you asked my who is producing modern Rhythm and Blues, its someone like Van Hunt, and certainly not the acts littering the charts.
-------What planet are you living on. The last full on Van Hunt CD you know the one that was not officially released was a full on rock record. If you look past the sterotyping that you are doing and not listen to just the top ten of the RnB charts you can fine some good RnB. 1,000s of people are going to the Essence Fest this coming weekend and you do not see one Gangster or Booty song rapper on the bill.
Real RnB is out and alive and well and we do not need the
Culture vultures or Black Experts telling the African-American community what RnB is.
Or dear. It doesn't take long for your usual balanced view to shine through. A coloured chip on both shoulders.
How exactly can I be stereotyping when my words said exactly the opposite; that I don't think you can categorise music so clearly?
And you earlier said that "RnB is the new pop", but then contract yourself and say look past the charts to find good RnB. No one said RnB was dead, but in my opinion, Nicki Minaj is a million miles from RnB compared to John Lee Hooker, or Van Hunt for that matter (with his RnB Grammy sitting at home).
Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you think that Van Hunts later material is rock, then you don't know rock.
I could leave it at that, or paraphrase that we don't need culture vultures or White Experts telling the Eurasian community what rock is, how would that sound?
I choose to leave it at that, because I'm not blinded by race like some. I just listen to music.

And for the record, none of the fb groups are "fammy". Certainly not the larger groups with 1000+ members, they're incredibly critical. So you've just shown that you don't know what you're talking about. I could easily post dozens of positive reactions from my feeds, but what's the point? You aren't looking to be proven wrong, and everyone knows you are anyway.

One thing is sharing opinions, another is saying someone is retarded or similar because they think differently (in this case, if someone likes 20ten more than 1999, why can't people just accept it, it's beyond me)... |

Yes, agreed, AND, if someone doesn't like 20ten, why can't people accept it? Works both ways, no?
In this case, both sides of the argument are getting personal and thinking their opinions are more valid than those who disagree with them. But, I don't see anyone calling anyone else "retarded".
Did you make that up? Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors. |

go and read all posts by user "thedance" in different topics and you'll see how he hates Prince's recent output and "questions" people's tastes.
Anyway, enough with this shit, I can't believe I wasted my time posting in defense of freedom of tastes for Prince's music on prince.org. Should have known better. |

Obviously you had to leave your stupid reply on this thread too. Let people have their own tastes and open your mind. Yes there is truth in what you say but still to compare 20Ten to a ground breaking record like 1999 seems deserving of Bart's comment People can have opinions and different taste sure... But saying 20Ten is better than 1999 is like saying Under the Cherry Moon was better than the God Father It's silly Dance... Let me see you dance |

Ummmm....
I would NEVER say Under The Cherry Moon is better than The Godfather, cuz, as you say, that would be silly, crazy even. I will go out on a limb and say I enjoy Under The Cherry Moon more than I enjoy The Godfather.
I would also rather watch The Phantom Menace on repeat than have to sit through a rewatch of any of The Lord Of The Rings movies, so, don't anybody bother pointing out how crazy I am, cuz I already know.
Guess it's time for Militant to "lock this shit up real tight up in heyah" after all...

The beat sounds like something The-Dream would come up with. Except The-Dream draws a lot of influence from Prince's sound and puts a more R&B/Pop feel to it. So I guess if Dream takes from Prince, Prince is just being Prince..... Sorry that got weird.... |

Ok sorry if I misquoted you. How is it reminiscent of 1999? Do you mind explaining that? I mean Bart's response and my backing his comments are based on you comparing an album that about 3 people remember to a ground breaking record like 1999. I mean 1999 was an unbelievable record one of Princes most complete and cohesive works. The quality of the songs many ground breaking, was astonishing and the depth of the material was incredible. I'm sorry but IMO 20Ten wasn't even reminiscent and I struggle how any Prince fan worth their salt says that. It's just nuts sorry

If you're talking about the DrFunkenberry one the other day, I don't think it was played at all. The one fan who had anything critical to say at all (they all just seemed to gush about the songs, while saying very little about them), said the song in its whole is much better than the snippet.
