30th Anniversary Already A Debacle

The anniversary of the album has passed and the anniversary of the film is days away. No release and no info. Prince is already bad mouthing warner brothers and the revolution. This thing was almost fool proof, but they managed to screw it up royally.

can't they release a 30th anniversary edition any time in the year?

But that aside, I'm pretty sure they mentioned the autumn as the release window for the PR remaster.

RIP sad

Nothings been screwed up, did they say it would be out on the 30th Anniversary? They have 12 months of the anniversary so if it happens in the next year its on the 30 anniversary, the deal went through too late to get everything out and start a promotional campaign for it. The only person who can and will probabaly mess it up is Prince. Warner Brothers will do it when and how they want to do it because they are funding it, not Prince so it has to fall in line with other releases when it suits them and a time of year when it will be most profitable (Based on whats going around this will be November)

Even more proof that they screwed this up. Rather than a 12 month celebration it will be more like 3 months. The excuse will be that he is not living in the past but then he plays a greatest hits medley before a sold out superdome. They screwed this up royally because they cannot get their sh@@ straight.

They managed to turn the Purple Rain 30th anniversary into the Plectrum Electrum debacle. Some people have already lost interest.

yes they screwed it up. Im aware of that the deal whent through late but at least the promotional campaign shoul have started this month with a realese by the end of the month. To not release it now when there wad some hype around the 30th anniversary is typical Prince, just like when he screwed it up around new girl/superbowl by not release PE. I also think a problem is that he wants his new album(s) out ut before PR remaster

How long do you think things take? Designs for posters, cd case design, prince to sign off on them, Prince to pick the tracks he wants featured on it, the long process of Re-mastering them, testing everything else. You cant just put something out in that time frame, especially when its probabaly going to be the "Flagship" release from his back catalogue.

.

.

Personally, I think there will be a Digitally remastered version of Purple Rain the Movie on Blu-ray, and this could be an element that holds it up too so that they can release them together because it wouldnt make sense doing it seperate!

Who, outside of the org and even then some of us here don't care, do you think even cares about when, or even if, it is released? If you stopped the average person on the street, they wouldn't even know that PR was 30 years old, let alone what fucking second, of what day it was released. It's a non-issue and hardly anything close to a debacle. lol

Exactly. No point in wasting money on ads and promo now anyway, since it's Summer. This thing will kick in gear come September at the earliest (depending on what release date they target). Do note that less than a week ago we learned that a new Pink Floyd release is scheduled for the Fall (October, alledgedly), so that's another major release for WB.

Yup, plus why rush something out then have Fans moaning about it? If your going to plough money into it no point in it being a weak attempt. Any fan who cant wait must not be too bothered about the content on there.

Debacle??

"Let 2014 be purple"... woot! woot!

I am still hoping for the Purple Rain remaster, 2x 80 minutes,

with lots of bonus.

I wanna buy some amazing Prince-products again, this hasn't happened since...... over ten years ago.

More "physical" products.... PLEASE....... Cd's, Dvd's...... I sure wanna spend a lot of money in case this remaster etc will be great........

Let's still pray for a purple 2014. beg beg

He wants to release Plectrum Electrum and/or his new album now and WB wants to release Purple Rain on its own. I get the sense that they are not feeling the new stuff and now Prince is dragging his feet on Purple Rain. WB is not excited about a rock album by 3EG or an electropop album produced by Josh even though some hard core fans might be.

This probably explains why he is having trouble reaching WB.

no one out in the real world cares or remembers what day the movie or album was released on. find a life dude, get a hobby, turn the internet off every once in awhile.

Exactly...the debacle is already on the way...Prince & WB relationships at this moment are the same as they were in the old days.......disapointments are just around the corner....tensions are high at this stage.....Prince has just close The vault Doors at the face of WB....don't expect something exciting from PR reissue & don't expect at all any new Remasters in the months 2 come or years!

It was national news on many media outlets on the anniversary of the album release. I would say that is proof that someone cares. It will be national news on the anniversary of the film release in a few days. Would have been nice if they could also talk about the re-release but those dummies messed it up already.

since warners and prince hadnt got along in those 30 years no one probably thought there was any reason to plan a release that probably wouldnt happen. i would bet not one bit of work had been done till after p and warners made up and had a deal.

30th anniversary edition of She's So Unusual came 6 months later than the actual release date. World didn't end. (could have been a better boxset mind you but that's a different story)

Its already reentered the charts... http://www.billboard.com/...rains-30th

The Nov release makes perfect sense. With the way fams act it does NOT make sense to drag out a promotional campaign for 4 months... you guys would have a heart attack.

Change it one more time..
