It's over folks. Plain and simple. If that is the best he can do or if that is on the new album at all then it explains why Warners hasn't released it. It would be a very brave music company that takes this rubbish on.

It must be over for your font size. So your ridiculous comment is as small as it probably should be.

Jughead and Wedding Feast are perfect examples of how Prince can release a bad song and then easily recover...unless you have "Bart Van Halen" disease I refer to in my post above. Then you can only HATE new Prince material...

I haven't heard this yet, but I have a choice. I may love it, like it, or hate it, but I have a choice.

If you have "Bart Van Halen" disease, you HAVE NO CHOICE, NO DECISION MAKING ABILITY...YOU WILL HATE EVERY SONG PRINCE PUTS OUT REGARDLESS OF QUALITY...

oK...enough of my rant. Some of ya'll have this disease.

Maybe he means funk, sort of like the way one would use the word to descripe their bits 'n' pieces after a long jog on a hot summer's day while wearing nylon.

falloff Perhaps. lol

The negativity of Prince fans never ceases to amaze, people wanted new music, they got new music, they dont like the new music! Prince has put out alot of records that are far less rememorable than this.

.

A 35 second snippet with the last 7 seconds being cut and paste sound effects, hardly qualifies as new music. hmph!

..

.

Well it qualifies as enough to have everyone complaining about it how it sounds, its a snippet of New Music, so there for it is new music my friend smile I'd say its the outro of the track

Thanks to the person that provided me a link! With that said..... Would you like some wine with that cheese? Every time a new Prince tune is released I still hold out a little bit of hope that I will like it. But I'm starting to understand why I won't. I think it's because in the end I don't like Prince so much as Prince AND whoever he's surrounding himself with/listening to at the moment. So yeah, when Prince was inspired by post punk, and Gary Numan, and Santana and the Beatles, when he had Wendy and Lisa and Susannah and Sheila, I loved it because I love those artists. The stuff he's been doing for the last 20 years? Not really my thing. It sounds forced and "current", but not in a good way. Prince should NEVER sound current. He should sound Nostalgically Futuristic. But to each their own. If you like it cool.

There is a disease I call "Bart Van Halen" disease. It causes you to either hate or not really embrace any Prince song after 1990 or so NO MATTER WHAT. If you suffer from this disease, Prince could release the strongest album in ages, but people with this disease simply CANNOT GET INTO NEW MUSIC. You have the U2 fans like this, you have the Bon Jovi fans, the Rush fans, just pick a popular artist. There are tons of fans complaining that their favorite no longer has it.

So many suffer from "So and so is not as good as they used to be."

Well the truth? Some of this is true. Most older artists can't possibly recapture their past glory

But most good to great artists continue to make quality material, but a lot of older fans lose their ability to like new music by older artists and get "Bart Van Halen" disease.

Paul McCartney is a good example. He just made a very nice solo album with 4 really strong tracks, and another 5 or 6 that are very decent, and a few filler snoozers. But there are some older Beatle fans who hate every single track due to this disease.

Take the radio stations that even play music by older artists...they usually pick 3 or 4 hits by the artists on their playlists and play them over and over and over again, conditioning people over the age of 35 that their artists from their youth only had 4 songs. And they might play a new single for a week or two , but tactics like this empower the thought that older artists are incapable of making good music.

If you can't listen to the Lotus Flow3r disc and love at least 3 songs, then you have this disease. You will hate new Prince songs no matter what, and I feel really sorry for you.

biggrin I mentioned this once...

It sounds funnier if you call the disease the BVH. Sounds more like something you would hear about on one of those commercials selling a cure. lol

Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

I love exactly 3 songs from it but I still think it sucked overall because it did. I will not hate new Prince songs no matter what, though. I liked Breakdown very much. However, I do not suffer from what I call Famdeumonia disease. When it comes to Famdemonia, I truly believe Prince could record himself taking a shit, release it on Twitter with some cryptic nonsense like "The air we breath??? yes wildsign " and the people inflicted with Famdeumonia disease would be right here, praising his rhythmic flatulence and while trying to psychoanalyze the rest of us for pointing out the fact that the man is doing nothing but taking a shit!

Funny, I like Breakdown too, but the Star Wars laser gun battle and overproduction turned me

way off to it. The live version showed a great song, the released one was simply a good one to me that suffers from a hatchet job.

Sorry, but no. I have liked quite a few Prince songs since 1990. Notice I said SONGS, not albums. The last album I like by Prince was The Gold Experience, and even it was iffy, I just have alot of sentimental attachment to it.

But even the songs that I like from the past 20 years are nothing compared to previous output, and honestly suck compared to anything else out there. When Prince's music was my main focus I thought he could do no wrong, that no one else even touched his genius. Then I started actually exploring other artists, other genres, other music and I realized that though he may be a genius, talent fades, and he is FAR from the only genius.

So, if you really think the majority of new music Prince is putting out is acceptable, the cool for you. But I really feel sorry for you.

If you can't listen to the Lotus Flow3r disc and love at least 3 songs, then you have this disease. You will hate new Prince songs no matter what, and I feel really sorry for you.

Ha..this is great! This is very true. it seems a lot of people get "stuck" and can't evolve when their favorite artist changes. And it is impossible for any artist not to change. If nothing else new tech makes them change.

Your first problem was thinking that Prince could do no wrong. I remember when Prince released his first single and even at that time as a teenager I had heard a lot of great classic music. At no time was prince ever the be all to music (nobody is). U just didn't like the direction his music took.

What is "acceptable" music from Prince? And why would you feel sorry for someone enjoying something simply because you don't? Aren't you the one wasting time on things that are "unacceptable"?

Why is it when people don't like Princes new stuff others automatically say its because we dont like change or can't evolve? I for one love it when an artist pushes themselves in new directions. My Problem with Prince is that he hasn't changed! He's been doing the same tired, watered down R&B/Pop stuff since Rave. You could probably take every album since then, mix up the tracks and they would all sound like they were recorded during the same period. Theres no distinction, no defining characteristic but his name.

I'm not looking for Purple Rain part 2 or any rehash of 80's Prince sound. I'm looking for something that even has a HINT of the creative spark that made me love Prince in the first place. And I just dont hear it.

And another thread ends breaksdown into insults......

And why is that? Go read the first few pages. What started out as a regular thread, people giving their opinion on the preview.

Follow it down and the first break from topic is a fam negatively calling someone elses view (that doesn't match their own) as "hating". From their it builds.

Why do fams find it so hard to let someone have a differing opinion?

The "feeling sorry" line was in direct response to the the person saying they feel sorry for me if I can't find songs I like. And at one time he was the be all to music to ME. And yes, I am wasting time debating Prince music with people that will like his stuff no matter what.

Because for some if you say you don't like P's new stuff its like you're saying God doesn't exist or something.

I get that people have different tastes in music. I tried to explain why I don't like his new stuff, but apparently I have a tucking disease because of it. So from now on I'm just gonna say what I have to say and not respond to anyone. Peace

Your argument isn't even objectively true. I don't think anyone whether they like the music are not would consider TRC, NEWS, Xpectation, C-Note, 20-ten or Lotusflower to be anything like Rave. And that is not a judgment on the quality of any of the music just that they cover alot of different musical territory. So your point post-Rave really makes no sense.

So WHY is WB holding the remaster release hostage in a cage?

Gohi

Why is Prince content with never growing as an artist anymore? His complacency seemingly knows no bounds. This is so terribly uninspired.

I'm gonna try something different. I'm gonna explain exactly WHY I'm not feeling This Could Be Us without using words like "suck", "crappy" or "cheesy".

  • First, I'm not a big fan of Prince's "love songs". There have been exceptions, Adore being the most notable because, well, I simply adore it, but overall they don't do much for me. I think its because I've always felt they sounded like someone just singing ABOUT love, and not someone IN LOVE singing.

  • Second, I've never really liked songs where Prince sings in his falsetto the entire time (Yes, there are exceptions.) This MAY not be the case for This Could Be US, but judging from the snippet I'm willing to bet it is.

  • Third, the production seems to be similar to Prince's recent work; highly polished, shiney, bright and "digital" sounding, with sound effects and processing that I don't find appealing.

  • And last but not least, the lyrics. Doves and cages..... inspiration from a meme, and not just inspiration but the copying and pasting of the meme EXACTLY..... "honey, honey, honey"..... No, don't like it.
