To anyone (like myself) who is a "very" long time fan, it's well known that he has very little (if any) business sense.

So the Musicology year that wasn't successful? His decision to make Purple Rain the movie that wasn't big business sense? Doing the superbowl? His Vegas residency, Opening his own recording studio complex, Leaving warners going independent? What other 80's black superstar is still making millions and recording and performing consistently? He is still at the top of his game.

I don't feel Prince has done a bad job of

managing his career since he left WB.The

problems he has had come from trying to

circumvent the traditional marketing practices

with wacky ticket sales and gimmicky means

of releasing new music.

Not necessarily. He still charges a larger sum for the rights to use the music (more than the average musician/composer does) and he still has to approve of the use of the music. Nothings change except he personally pays the people to handle the requests and CONtracts; cutting out the huge fee/royalty of a traditional publishing company.
