So where was the release date? Or any mention of the new album? Nothing there. He's continuing the trend after 'celebrating the release' in London.

Good God, it's only a talk show guys, not some concert. You should not expect high concept on a talk show. It was fun, funky and worth seeing, not much else. I agree with some that FunkNRoll is ear suicide. Something Vanilla Ice might write.
The interview was cool, beyond the "I have a son" part--ouch. Good to see Prince so playful, admitting that he eats eggs. lol.
I have a feeling the questions were scripted. Someone would have asked about the vault.
I am free to never release an album. Freedom for you, hell for us. lol.
Prince, offer a vault download site, charge one rate; no burning allowed, low fee and we will buy.

I didnt get why Prince said "Now we dont have a record company rushing us to release albums." Isnt that why he fought with Warner Brothers, because they wouldnt let him release his new material? Now he doesnt have a label and we cant get any new music. And I wont talk about the quality of music since he left Warner Brothers. Right down to the album covers, Warners helped him a lot I think.______________________________________________

joyinrepetition said: To tell the truth, the best part of the show was the interview and Liv's performance. Prince was underwhelming. It looks as if he doesn't have the funk in his heart anymore. I'm still a fan, but I'm being real with how I feel about this performance. Whack! That's funnily enough what went through my mind at the KOKO gig a few weeks ago....it was a real rush through with by-the-book 'point at imaginary person' whilst playing guitars, pull guitar face, make comment about 'too many hits' "good night". Reminded me very much if the Gold Experience booklet where get said he saw Prince and thought he looked bored. P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

Why cant I find this supposed Prince youjoob channel? I'm not gonna accept there is one till I see it, but I also want to see the full show to make my own judgements (I didnt want to see the short clips so I could savour it).

The next day, when they came back to shoot the Lake Minnetonka part, the temperature had dropped about 50 degrees and they were worried about Apollonia getting hypothermia. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Great show! Awesome of Prince to post it on youtube!! The big symbol on the mic stand is cool but too big. It blocks him in some of the shots. Having the little one too is just too much. Too busy. The fro might be the first time we've seen his real hair instead of a wig in a long time, it's too messy to be a wig. Got to be real!! The performances were pretty good. I'll be rewatching this a few times. The interview was really cool. Nothing cringeworthy. Very relaxed. The audience questions and call to the guy's girlfriend was... just weird. He was very funny and cool the whole show. Looking forward to rewatching this a few times over the next few days.

I didnt get why he needed all the dancers onstage hiding 3rdeyegirl for "FunknRoll" Im sure the band was bummed about that. ______________________________________________

Get a new search engine. Or, some new search terms... Who's show is it? Who's the guest? What website is it on?

Exactly. The criticism then was Warners not letting him be all he could be. Now, it's "I'm taking my time since I don't have Warners on my back." Realistically, it's probably that he wants the next one to be well-received and memorable, and for the first time, he's willing to put in the time to make sure he has something he's proud of and that people like. But four years? I feel like someone's getting a little gunshy. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

Thanks for that, didnt realise the science behind rockets etc was classed as surgery (but I guess you could have bashed me a bit more for being crap at this so thats appreciated)
In any case I have done all that you said, obviously, but just keep finding the small clips..want to see the full show!

He has enough material for a killer live DVD and live cd if he wanted to go that route. His live dvd's have never really captured his live performances, but the clips Ive seen are pretty good quality and I would like to see the full songs. ______________________________________________

Re-watched it.
.
God damn, Arsenio is a fucking goofball and that audience Q&A was rough.
.
The performances were great, although I agree with others who seem to think that some of it was piped in and pre-recorded. Not sure what everyone's issue is with Funk N Roll but anymore I just assume if the song is not a (power) ballad and is energetic at all then the rest of the org hates it.
.
Along those lines: I haven't heard The Breakdown yet and know nothing about it, but I'm going ot go out on a limb here and assume that since the entirety of the org loves it that it's an orchestral power ballad in the vein of Empty Room. Am I right?
.
I'm not sure when it was exactly that everyone around here stopped liking Prince's party music and dance songs but I've always preferred that style over the "ooo, baby" and operatic music he's done, but, like most things in Princeville, it's all a matter of personal taste.
.
Anyone else notice that these days Prince looks like three circles (the hair and each lense on the glasses)? Dude looks straight up funny with an afro but I don't particularly care one way or the other. I've always liked how he "puts on somethin that another won't dare" and all that but these days I feel like I could draw him in Adobe Illustrator with nothing but the circle tool.
.
"She's Always in My Hair" made my wife and I laugh because I said "these days, if she gets up in his hair, bitch will get lost." Maybe he could add a few more symbols to his microphone stand while he's at it. Jesus Christ, Prince. We get it, OK? You're super bad ass and we're not. I love his narcissitic and self important streak and always have but the older I get the funnier it becomes.
.
I love the stage sets he's been using now with this new band and the hippy dippy trippy shit he's oozing.
.
Lastly, you know what a good question from the audience would have been? "When are you going to deliver a proper live album/box set that really captures your concert sound?" I had a chance to speak to him in 2001 and wished I'd asked that.

"FunkNRoll" was a disappointment to me too (I'll wait for the studio version to make a judgement on the song itself), but he played one of the best live versions of "She's Always In My Hair" I can recall hearing. "Mutiny" was okay, although those organ parts from "Ice Cream Castles" make it sound quite kitchy. It sure grooved a whole lot more than "FunkNRoll".

On the circles--It's funny 'cuz it's true.
On the narcissism--it's always been funny. Hasn't it supposed to have been? I mean, really?

I'm not always sure.
.
When I was young I thought it was uber cool and sort of bad ass in a way, from Purple Rain almost up to and including the Grafitti Bridge movie and the name change. Don't get me wrong. I always thought it was kind of funny and over the top but, for a (long) while at least, Prince seemed to want us to take this silliness seriously. I'm not entirely uncertain he still doesn't and that he's really in on the joke.
.
Shit, remember The Rainbow Children goofiness, Kevin Smith's reporting on it, the Stauros stuff or whatever that was...look at the preening and sense of self importance he displayed last night. He's always like that and I absolutely love him for it but I'm not always sure it's coming from (him) as a place grounded in humor. Suing his fans? Shutting down fan websites? Ripping off paying customers of his published material and members of his websites and fan clubs? Cheating on his wives? Lying to and firing band members?

last year he was releasing just songs and not gonna do albums anymore, remember that statement? / so now he's taking his time getting together songs that fit well. ok, i get it. / but what if i'm waiting 3 years and the songs are all PRETZEL/FIX/FNROLL and i'm like "what the hell prince?" / meanwhile, songs like "groovy potential", "same page, different book" or even "screwdriver" get filed away in the vault (we got them last year but other years we got only 1 track or nothing at all [xtraloveable 11]). / what i'm saying is, we all like different stuff, so i'd perfer it if he'd still just release whatever he came up with. the more the better. / otherwise it'll simply disappear into that vault again, like everything else. / i don't get it. what's the point of that vault anymore? to release 30000 or so songs the year after he dies? he should have a decent site and beyond his current projects have a monthly download of a vault track. it could've been running into it's 15th year by now and be up to 200 tracks. i mean, why else keep EVERYTHING? (and continue to talk about it). for what? for whom? for when? /
