Great show and performances. One will never be able to capture on a TV show what he can do and extend live (like She's always in my hair) due to time constraints. Everything has to be right on schedule. Only complaint is that he has two great new songs that are palatable to the general public, Pretzelbodylogic and Breakfast Can Wait. He really should have done one of those instead of two "old" songs (as much as I love Mutiny and Hair). It seems like he is only playing all the new material overseas as we heard very little at Mohegun Sun too.

Much respect to Arsenio Hall. He is hilarious and knows what he is doing. His guest line-up shows that his purpose moves beyond simply entertainment. Can't say that I will be watching but his show is an excellent one (based on the two that I saw yesterday episode 75 and Prince). Arsenio doesnt miss a beat...Prince toe it up! Always amazing. Always awesome.
Glad to see the history.

Is that the new official youtube-channel by prince? It has the same design like the 3rdeyegirl channel. If so, very cool! [Edited 3/6/14 7:35am]

Best part--
I had the captions on when I watched the broadcast (we just kind of leave them on most of the time).
When Liv was introduced, the song's title was given in the captions as "Solicited."
Also, glad to see that not having a contract is why he's taking so long to release an album. He has time to get together a group of songs that go together. Interesting... remember when having a contract kept him from releasing music more quickly?
I just don't get it.
As to the performances, they were okay. I'll have to see them again to make a real judgment. I probably would have preferred a straight no keys performance of She's Always in My Hair. I think that the four of them work well; don't see what Josh adds. I had expected more from Funknroll, which I hadn't heard yet (I've got it on some shows, but I haven't listened to them yet). The talk with Arsenio was fine (I liked the whole "we were in somebody's kitchen, right" story). I actually liked the Steven thing, just because it was so weird.

I disagree. To me it was 3rd Eye who was underwhelming. To me he sang well.
Now Liv and the band performance straight FIYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big differnce. [Edited 3/6/14 7:59am]

Contrary to the song's claim, it neither "funks" nor "rolls". So far, the songs from the new album are majorly disappointing.

Gadzooks! The full episode is up on what looks like the "official" Prince YouTube channel, which was born earlier today. [No posting of youtube links. The org does not have the purple seal of approval to post such links snip - luv4u]

I always thought Days of Wild and 3121 were so-so (at least the studio versions). FunknRoll to me is a lot more interesting. But I think with all of these types of song they'll always sound better live than the studio versions. Change it one more time..

So I downloaded the TV-show from the supposedly official Prince j00t00b channel. Great service that should be more in the open.
Zapping past the cheesy jokes, the sound is great. The songs thus far are nice. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

All that I have watched so far is the clip of that on Arsenio's site. I was not impressed either. I'll have to watch again though because I was too busy being annoyed by the dancers and bewildered by the fact that we were seeing more of the keyboard player than of 3rd Eye Girl. So, I might need to listen without watching to really know what I think. Gonna watch the whole show from the youtube link first, though.

Late ti the thread but I did too. Like the other guy said it just needed a little of Prince's guitar work in there. Reminded me little of 3121.

I love the hornz! To hear Mutiny and She's always in my Hair is always a treat. Those songs are still funky! If he's going to just release more singles as opposed to albums then he needs to get crackin for 2014. I don't do Prince negataivity, but I will say that the New Girl episode and Arsenio would have been great platforms to promote the new album. But I have learned to not expect the norm with Prince. And Liv had another album out before the new project too...don't sleep. NPG 4 Life tattoed on my chest! jk Love God and I shall 4ever Love u

I feel like he wanted to introduce the song FunkNRoll to the audience without adding too much to it. The performance is probably close to what the studio version will sound like. It's like they played the song as it is. That's the smart way to do it imo when playing a new song live on tv before releasing it that way people will know what to expect from it and won't be disapointed after hearing the studio version for the first time.
