The best: "She's Always In My Hair"..... this is pure dope..! worship

You must be kidding.

Please find that b00t with the 1993 (or so) 'Rock over Germany' recordings.

And that's the first example that I can think of.

There must be gazillions more.

^ Hi, Udo: Didn't you misunderstand me ??

By "the best", I mean, being the very "best" live performance that night, on Arsenio.

-- just like I loved the live version video (She's Always..) -- from "Smukfest" in Skanderborg, Denmark, 2013.

Misunderstood??

I did not mean "the best live version ever" of "She's Always In My Hair", ("the best" was "She's Always..". You know... Prince also played FunkNRoll and Mutiny on Arsenio, however I like those, also).

There's a live version of "She's always.." on the Rave 2000 DVD, which is great as well, (but very short, iirc),

I actually own the Rock Over Germany bootleg, on pressed CDs.

Thats a truly great bootleg -- there, I agree with you Udo.... funny you should mention this bootleg.. wink

lol thumbs up!

The Arsenio Show, I really like it... I have watched it already now 3 or 4 times: And it becomes better and better! wink

Ps, KangaFunk... I am not always that "negative", disillusioned Prince-fan.

I used to be a 100% "positive" and "supportive" fan of Prince, but it is true his studio-music-2013 makes me kind of frustrated, sometimes (lately) it's a struggle for me.. to be a fan of Prince, yes.. sometimes it's hard to be that "enthusiastic".

But, let's be positive now, I mean.. I like this Arsenio H. show...... a lot! biggrin

I enjoyed it overall but thought the dancers at the beginning was stupid. Prince or 3rdeyegirl dont need that just forus on the playing of the song. And the dumb section with that couple. I think they were trying to tie it go his appearance in new girl as some kind of relationship idvisor! But I think prince overall came across well. But where waz the questions about his music etc.VEry frustrating

Are you talking about the sexy chick that was behind Prince when they were calling that girl on the phone so her boyfriend could break up with her? Looking at the TV, she was to the left and behind Prince. I think she had white on and she was sexy. hee hee lol cool

Nah Nah.Nicole is underneath where Prince is sitting. And she is in bottom Right of screen after he says he isn't single. She wants him ha

Stuff like that makes it appear as if the stereotypes are true and alive.

The cheesy jokes, weird questions and weird actions (the phone call) detract.

If the P songs are mostly old and nothing is said about the new album that disappoints.

I watched only the live performances not the intervies, and noticed the huge amount of polish he's put on these performances to the recent gigs in London and Manchester.

I guess a TV audience want more of a show, and I think Prince delivered with the help of full brass complement.

I really dug hearing Mutiny, and it was great to see everyone in 3EG getting into it. She's always in my hair seemed to be far more restrained and measured in delivery, much more like a stadium or large venue version.

Funk & Roll is a massive live song, and really lost it's punch this time. I haven't heard the album verison, not sure if any one has, but I reckon it would sound more like this.

I hate the dial-a-mob dancers with their stuck on grins and boring paint by numbers moves. Lame, always hate it when he feels the need. He's one of the few performers who is captivating sitting on a stool - see Canal + performances around Lotusflower, he barely moved but oozed cool.

Much prefer the raw energy of Hit & Run, so Prince when are you coming back to see us?? wink

Prince is trying to capture a younger audience, whose attention span is very short! So the dancers added more electricity to keep them captivated. He is in showbiz mode! Which is why ticket giveaways to radio was added as promotion for the hiighly anticipated event. I think the dancers added more energy to his already well rehearsed stage show. We were kept waiting outside the stage an extra two hours! So Prince can get it just right. It worked! Because it broke a ratings record for Arsenio. He is trying to capture a mass audience! Not just please his whiney ungrateful fans....

You guys are brutal. Why are people making such a fuss? It was the Arsenio Hall show for god's sake!

I thought it was fun and entertaining. It was nice to see Prince's humourous side and great hearing a couple of new songs too. He was having fun and that's the importmant thing.

Why do some people have to analyze it to death??

I don't know what all the fuss is about, I watched the full show last night expecting to be watching and cringing but it was fine. The phone call thing was just a bit of fun, not meant to be taken seriously. The performances were great, I love Funknroll more each time I hear it and loved the horns at the end even though I'm not usuallly a fan of the horns.

The first interview segment was pretty good for a Prince interview, no weird moments where he starts talking about consipracy nonsense or putting the music before the ology. Thought it all came over very well and it entertained me for 42 minutes. Except for the Liv Warfield bit, she doesn't do it for me. Nice voice though.

RIP sad

In what way was it a cringefest for you? Can you be specific because I didn't see anything cringworthy. I thought it was a fun show. I've seen numerous interviews over the years that made me cringe, but this one was great fun IMO.

It was all made up, thats quite obvious. Most fans vould have asked about the new album, tours, vault, his plans 4 his dead website 3rdeyegirl.com, new live dvd etc.I find the whole show boring except the great performance of shes always in my hair

Prince is a gracious guy, which is great, but I agree that everyone came to see Prince, not anyone else. If the people Prince helps want to perform, they should wait till they are invited on the show.

He had an afterparty at Mohegan back in late december, everyone came to see prince, but guess what everyone got? An entire 10 song set by Liv, Doug E Fresh as the DJ for a few hours, and no performance by Prince, just a get the hell out the party is over. Now that is something to get upset over.

So if it was Hannah singing instead and Prince giving Donna some solo time would that bother you as well?

Very much so, giving Hannah singing time would be like giving Renato Netto guitar time, or giving Candy Dulpher singing time (I still cringe during her parts of Life O The Party. Sometimes sticking to what you do best is...well...best.....imo.

Arsenio is a kiss ass dork, who hasnt ever made me laugh, but he always did get the good R&B acts. I cant believe he has a show though, he has no timing, no sense of humor and really kisses way to much butt!

i've always found these american chat shows really starchy & this was no exception. however, it is the best 'interview' & interaction i've ever seen with prince, he was very sweet & relaxed looking & seemed less mysterious than usual.

his performances were good, his black & white outfit was the best & love that he still uses piles of mascara

oh & liv peformance was nice too. i'm so glad to see her get some limelight

I can definitely see that Prince may come back to perform on Arsenio Hall sooner than later in the future. Arsenio made Prince feel comfortable and gave him the leeway and respect Prince needed to even grant an interview to Arsenio one-on-one and then to do a interview with fans in the audience. I would love to see Prince appear on Letterman and appear on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, but couldn't imagine Letterman letting Prince perform and do no interview. And with Fallon, they gotta keep security detail on the Roots instruments, the way people keep moaning about Prince breaking Kirk Douglas' guitar after playing it for "Bambi". Arsenio is flat as a comedian but this appearance is far and away better than Prince's performances from Jimmy Kimmel and Fallon a year ago.
