The guys or gals quote of cheap is bs, inneudeo and conjecture,,, Speaking of money , Gouche stated that he gets more money to show up at practice then he did as being the musical director on tour for many acts...So however this guy Prince is cheap with its BS>> And please dont bring no quotes up about him paying the time 100 in 1981

If you look at my review of this song, I didnt give it flying colors either. I just dont believe your story and believe that outside of the Org nobody really gives a shit. and why would these 30 people believe or not believe that it is Prince. Do they follow his career closely enough to decipher and pick up on Prince's playing style by ear? All he did was slow the song down. Why would these 30 people even think that it was an imposter?Your story just sounds silly and unbelievable. [Edited 4/2/13 11:07am]

If we were really lucky, we'd love an artist that could still write a good song and have some intererst in playing it live! TRUE BLUE

I've been thinking about this and firstly I love it! The only criticism id have is its a tiny bit too long, other than that, what a great track! Secondly I've begun to think that hopefully this could be a new phase for prince in updating and releasing his tracks in an unplugged format like this. I know its something that fans always wanted back in the housequake days, maybe record the updated anotherloverholeinyohead, this and other songs of a similar nature

Friends and family aside, I'd consider that person an inconsiderate guest and want to smash the laptop over said guests fucking head, even if they were family. No wonder those 30 people were looking so miserable.
One person dominating proceedings. "Listen to this! Listen to this!" ugh.

There it is.
The comment suggesting that interest in the track is "lying to the man" is odd to me.
For people who appreciate dirty and more raw rock like Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, or hell The White Stripes, this sound is something that is enjoyable.
The same kind of goes for the criticism of Hannah. I honestly won't pretend to know what she is capable, and I won't be able to truly criticize her drumming from a technical standpoint in a lot of ways, but I like the sound of the way she hits and I like, as Superconducter puts it, how her performance serves the song. I don't like this very much too slow version..
sounds like I'm listening to the 45 rpm single BUT on 33 1/3 rpm..
change the speed -- god damn it... Prince 4Ever.

You better explain that to the younger fans

Nah, we're lucky believe me. Prince is sub human for even having mediocre songs still left in his brain after such a vast and quality back catalogue. Then on top of that, at his age, his live shows still amaze non Prince fans.

GuyBros said: Superconductor said: As to this slowed down version of the song, I like that Prince re-arranges his songs and I like the bluesey, raw style but I am not into heavy rock. So the first two minutes feel good and then it gets too heavy for me and the end is a typical solo guitar ending. Will listen to it a few more times to see if it grows on me. And peeps should stop criticising Hannah, her drumming serves the song, that is what is important. She is an awesome drummer. Her style is rock, not funk. It is becoming obvious that the Thirdeyegirl band is about heavier, more rocknroll type sound than the NPG with Blackwell and horns. There it is. I've edited my original post to say that she is a good drummer, not awesome. Technically there are better female drummers out there. But at the end of the day this is the drummer on this version of the song and we can either like the sound of the drums and the song or not. ...every night another symphony...

Prince goes crazy on Edgar WinterSlowed down “Let’s Go Crazy” rehearsal has funBy Mark C. Brown 17 hours ago
When Dave Grohl addressed SXSW for his keynote speech last month he mentioned some of the music that influenced him as a child and started scat-singing the melody of “Frankenstein,” the Edgar Winter Band monster instrumental hit.
Apparently he wasn’t the only one of his generation inspired by it. Prince has leaked the audio of a rehearsal session of his hit “Let’s Go Crazy,” and about 2:30 into it the song takes a very “Frankenstein” turn of events. Check it out.
And check out EWB’s original version for old time’s sake.
If nothing else this is making fans drool over the small-club dates Prince has coming up (and maybe taking the edge off the sticker-shock prices of $200+ a ticket). Stay tuned, his Royal Badness apparently isn't done with us yet.

Who is Edgar Winter? Relative of Ophelia?

Cool. I've looked over my post and my sentiment remains the same. Technically, there are always better drummers out there. Crazy, right?
I enjoy this intepretation, and I enjoy the sound as I enjoy similiar types of sound from other artists, newer and older.

Y'know...if he's in this kind of mood, he oughta inject a little "Smoke on the Water." Ida could have a field day with the base line in that. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Woops, didnt' see this thread before I started my own on it.
It's always interesting to me to hear Prince slip some classic rock into the mix. It's hard to know exactly which rock he heard growing up...or is just getting into now.
Always loved Let's go Crazy. Great piece of music.
Solo at the and is killer too. "I know I hold you too tight, but I just can't seem to get close enough."

Prince and I are close in age, and both grew up in the midwest (he in Minnesota, I in Wisconsin). I can tell you exactly what rock he heard on the radio growing up: Santana, Led Zeppelin, The Moody Blues, Edgar Winter, Deep Purple, The Doobie Brothers, Foreigner, The Eagles, Rick Derringer, Three Dog Night, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grand Funk Railroad and Queen. That's just off the top of my head. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yep. We call it KQRS here in Minneapolis/Saint Paul. No doubt Prince grew up on this. [Edited 4/3/13 12:42pm] "New Power slide...."

Nah... this is fonky. And hard rock. Runk? Fock? Fuck?
Whatever. It's scrunch face time.

Yep, if you CAREFULLY READ my post, I CLEARLY outline that his band members have always stunk from day one. I make that SPECIFICALLY CLEAR.
Now for those who can read past a 1st grade level....I said he USUALLY wants someone who will take the smallest paycheck possible. (How that somehow is translated to I think all his band members suck....is beyond me.)
I did not mention a timeframe, but one can sort of infer that I'm talking about the last few years.
I also mentioned that I liked the 3rd Eye Girl Band. But I would be lying if I said they are world class musicians...they are not.
Prince has a history of people leaving his camp and NEVER Talking to him EVER AGAIN....is it because Prince is weird, crazy, etc? Well, to a point...but what is the NUMBER ONE cause of BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS of any Kind????? Personal or Professional????
Gee, Money...how did I come up with that...lucky guess???
I have actually talked to former Prince employees. If I was lied to...I stand corrected, but I stand by my opinion until I am convinced. Ever see the kind of cars parked at Paisley Park by his own employees???? That's what I'm talking about. [Edited 4/3/13 17:01pm] [Edited 4/3/13 17:02pm]

Me likes.

i don't care if eric leeds rolled up on rollerskates he borrowed from his little sister
this conversation started because of someone's musical ability... and the dude said "CHEAP OVER QUALITY WITH PRINCE EVERY SINGLE TIME"
are you going to tell me eric leeds isn't a quality musician?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Of course not - in my opinion, Eric Leeds is about the best musician Prince has ever had the luck of playing with. Sadly, he no longer uses him, because he doesn't want to pay him what he's worth. That was widely reported after NEWS came out and Prince stopped having Eric play with him onstage.
There have been multitudes of similiar reports with quality musicians over the years. Regardless of why someone might think that he would choose a few young women to be in his band, I think it's naive to think that the fact that he undoubtedly can get them for much cheaper than established musicians wasn't part of his decision-making process.
But I digress.... and I really like this new version of Let's Go Crazy. It sounds better than it has in almost 30 years live. I'm okay with his new band, and I'd love to see them live - but like many of Prince's former bandmembers, I can't afford it. [Edited 4/3/13 20:47pm] No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

you simply don't have a point... you're off on a tangent that has absolutely nothing to do with the original conversation
i'll say this one last time... the dude said "cheap over quality with prince every single time".... every time i've been to a prince show there's been quality musicians on stage with him... regardless of what he paid them... this conversation began about someone's playing ability... end of story... the argument is finished... i won... now be quiet... thanks
