Musicology > Come

I recently listened to the ENTIRE "Come" Album........

O.o

What the eff was wrong with Prince?

i sat there like ----> eek for that entire Album.

I LOVED the beat to "Pheromone" but those lyrics are creepy! O.o

Don't get me started on "Come"..... The ending was very "interestiiiing"

"Space" was THE BESTEST SONG ON THAT ALBUM (In my opinion) and blaah blahh blah.....

I have been traumatized for over 2 days now..... Thank you Prince. JK razz This album was pretty cool, but I prefer MUSICOLOGY!!!

Thoughts???

Come is quite easily one, if not the best Prince album of the 90's. You have to know the journey he was on at the time with WB to understand the album. Plus it is by far superior to Musicology in all ways. Listen to it again closely. Its a very personal album and straight forward, hence the black and white theme.

I made a thread a few weeks ago about having a hard time understanding this album, after much study and some quiet contemplation I now realize how amazing it is

Bogey and Bacall, peanut butter and jelly, Wall being on fucking point, is "classic" dipshit. An iphone is top shelf technology. Get it straight. This thing is 4g. -Wall the great

How did you like the Vanity "orgasim" ending?

I love the album. It's not a mainstream album, but it's not alternative either. It's just Prince. Love the album more than Musicology. But I do enjoy some songs on Musicology-However,I enjoy the mood and style of Come more.

Alright, I'll do some more P research and listen to the album again (but I'll avoid 2 songs)

Come = utter genius, his best album of the 90's.

Musicology = OK. Prince by numbers. Not his best album of the 00's.

^^ Agree w/ Militant, except I think prince is the best of the '90s, but "Come" is close.

NikkiandtheR, you are 15 yrs old. True there are adults who don't like "Come," I bet you will like this album better when you're older. Give it a listen in another 15 years.

P.S., But don't grow up too soon!

I like both albums but Come wins because of "Come." Awesome track, especially from about 9:05 till the end. LOVE the horns!

It doesn't really stand out now but the first time I heard Come it sounded really different than anything else he had ever done, before or after. Compared to other albums from around the same era (Diamonds and Pearls, prince, The Gold Experience, Chaos and Disorder) it definitely has a unique sound. I would guess that it has more, and different sounding, drum machines and some different keyboard sounds than those other albums which mostly feature live drums.

I like Come, and that era in general, I don't think we got the best config. of Come by a long shot - and Space is a favourite of mine too.

I'll leave it there, since although this thread asks for comparisons of the two, Musicology is far from a favourite of mine!

Come is a fantastic album, up there with my favourites and I'd take it any day over Musicology.

It does have a dark, brooding tone, but I like that. Up to that point in his career, I hadn't heard him be quite so open, honest and introspective as he is on that record - particularly on Solo, which is harrowing and shows there have been times when he felt both low and lonely. Papa is also a gem, as are Dark, Space, Race and the title track.

It was yet another album in his cannon that sounded overtly Prince, yet distinctly different from his other albums, something he has been mostly successful at throughout his career, but which has waned somewhat lately.

...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I actually prefer the original version of "COME" the version that is featured in the "Beautiful Experience" not a big fan of the version on this album way too drawn out and to me to open with a long track like that was instant death for this album. I also prefer the original track listing to the released one, basically there are a few versions rolling around but the version that opened with "poem" dropped off "Orgasm" all the segues were in the "Poem" track, "Letitgo" was not on this version which was good, always felt that song dragged the record down. And included was the track "strays of world" and "Endorphinemachine" now i prefer the version on the GE album i like its inclusion here more the same goes for "Dolphin" i thought it actually went better on the "Come" album and not GOLD

Come the song is a superb example of the "music is like sex" theory. The gentle beginning, warming her up, gettin' her wet. There's an energetic midsection, with some breaks feeling like the changing of positions. There's definately an explosion followed by a slow breakdown with no fade out, but an actual end. I know by nature sings are like that, but this sing seems to be an overt atrempt at it, and a very successful one.

Pheremone - the images posed in this song are so hauntingly erotic. It's probation inky a smalm taste if the shit that goes in in this midgets mind. At least he's been able to improve upon the erotic literature he claimed his ma left around the house.

Dark feels like a flash back to good old organic prince ballads of the 80's. Awesome lyrics, explosively tender music....Stax eat your heart out. This song is the soul if a soul.

Papa is the appropriately inappropriate rock song. The vivid images his lyrics have with the accompanying music is astounding.

Some of the self-serving lyrics in Letitgo bug me but are by far overshadowed by the layered and textured music. That klackity keyboard solo KILLS!

I'm nuts and I'm gonna confess that Space helped shape the way in which I enjoy and love women.

I love the lyrics to Race but the music I could do without.

Orgasm is just good sexy fun. Another overt example of sex and music going hand in hand. The same things that make a great sexual encounter make for a great tune.

Solo, for me, is rubbish.

I love this album and it's always around

Why?

No - she has her opinion, and she's entitled to it, she's judged it worse than Musicology and that's valid. I'm just saying that your judgment of things at age 15 is different from your judgment at 20, 30, 40, etc. You "get" some things better with more context or experience. When I was 15, I didn't understand all the art, music, and literature out there that was meant for adults; I was told this poem is great, that painting is a classic, etc., and I could sort of get that it was well crafted - but with more life experience I finally understood how truly sublime it really is!

Regarding "Come," you see that the people posting here rate it better than "Musicology," and you see that they are mostly adults, and the words they use to describe it include: "hauntingly erotic," "classy porn," "shape the way I enjoy and love women," "open, honest and introspective," "cutting edge," "personal," and "dark, brooding tone." How can a 15 yr old, who probably hasn't experienced anything related to those things, fully appreciate that? You see that OP uses words like "creepy" and "traumatized." Those are the same words I used to describe "When Doves Cry" when I heard and saw it for the 1st time as a very young girl - but as I grew older I found it exquisite.

So she can have her opinion now; I'm just saying it might be different later.

I've never been a massive fan of either Come or Musicology, but I'd rather have Come anyday.. (Perhaps I should re-word that)

Musicology is a pleasant album, but so forgettable. There's nothing on there that stands out. Thinking about it now, I can't even remember what songs are on there (apart from the title track), it's that forgettable.

With Come you have the great title track, Space, Pheremone, Loose and Letitgo. All great songs. Papa is a near hit as well, it's just a shame it wasn't fleshed out a bit.
