Well what else would &y do? If she's playing air guitar on this track, how would we know? "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

Is this good news? Yeah I think so. A lot of good points brought up in this thread. Nod to the past sounded right. People dig it, people don't. Not sure how I feel about it, definitely doesn't touch the original, but then again as has been mentioned, the original is untouchable. I guess it's too much to ask for him to release the original, so I'll take this, and be happy.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I Have to say I love it. Hopefully like Large Room With No Lights this means he's gonna play it live.
People need to chill a bit on this one I think.
No insult but it seems like some people have an exact list of things they want and get angry that he doesn't fill everybodies exact expectations to the letter.
If we had never heard the original I doubt most people (obviously some still would) wouldn't have a bad word to say about it.
I'm probably the only one but I'm really looking foward to any Prince Andy collaborations and also to the Remixes (hopefully they do a full remix of every song on MPLS)
Either way like it or hate it, It's better that it's out there being listened to.

In the Vancouver Sun interview Prince acknowledges that we old school die hards have the bootlegs. This should probably dash any hopes of him relasing any of the more risque tracks without changing them somewhat. He put out Splash without touching it probably because it wasn't a racy song. I suggest we get used to the fact that some of the vault material will never come out the way we want it to, if at all. Especially since he knows we have most of it already(some of it for decades now). When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

sheesh! Itunes wants an address in Canada to buy it.... argh!

All that talk about analogue vs. digital and he releases it through itunes. It seems that Prince doesn't give a damn about it all and he just cares about how much money he can make. The internet is dead as long as it cannot give me money; when it does, it is alive and well.
If we were "analogue" people, as he has proudly said lately, he would release this in vinyl.
Not that I would buy it, anyway. But I'd celebrate it. [Edited 11/23/11 11:18am]

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I agree with u both, but we know he's not going to release any song with the lyrics like that anymore. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

well im lovin it..its on repeat in my car
im sure all of the star wars vanilla geeks can keep on moanin and bitchin and comparing collections and sending each other emails of ticket stubs and their mazeretti vinyl (all still in original plastic sleeve so as not to damage it)
me?
im still diggin the music-im still amazed a man of this age is putting out music like this.
being into prince still 84 the one thing i have learned about this cat is that he never looks back-so i would be amazed if he ever released a box set of bootlegs.
This "remake" is amongst being funky and played astoundingly well is dignified.
the dude has got dignity in spades
perhaps alot of you should open the curtains, turn off the computer and turn on your stereo?

I don't hate it, but I think it might gel with me more if the tempo was a little more upbeat, it feels really slow and plodding - can't dance to it, can't fuck to it - what is it for?! Prince has still got that same problem with awkward, unmelodic and unrhythmic lyrical fitting too.
I was getting into it though until the rap which was just, eurgh, just unpleasant

LMMFAO!!!! I agree; this remake was COMPLETELY pointless! See, THIS is why I don't want his ass ANYWHERE near any "bonus tracks" if his remasters were to ever be done. And the lyric changes are God awful!! Just pure muck! Completely takes the fun out of the song. And was that fuckin' Auto-tune I heard?? I need to wait 'til I get home to hear that shit clearer, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

so you dont think this is played well or fu........aw jesus whats the point..

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Wow, that's some really insightful advice. Don't you think that's going to happen anyway?? Just like those of us who think his reworking of "In A Large Room With No Light" was complete, utter shit don't even look in that song's direction, let alone listen to it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Since getting the full version, it's growing on me a lot. Not a classic but that's why it's previously unreleased. The arrangement is pretty good really, quite a hard song to rerecord as the original has 80's written all over it. As for the rap, no thanks!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Not in crystal clear quality! How can you even make that ridiculous statement? It's not like he's re-recorded When Doves Cry and if we don't like it, we can always listen to the RELEASED original. Both versions of that would be in crystal clear quality, but the original of Extra is indeed in bootleg quality (depending on the version some people have). So, that comparison just isn't the same.
