i was thinking of doing the same thing (taking out the rap) maybe edit in some of the orginal...

have to say I'm now lovin' this....rap n all!. Look it's 2011 so he couldn't just stick to the exact same sounds, we all have the original so this is a nice addition to the collection. Also its better than most trax on 20Ten !. Just wish the classic funk rythm guitar comes in a lot more. It's free, no harm done, chill - if u want to get angry watch the news on Egypt, the global economy etc now THAT's worth getting really pissed about!.

I can't stop listening to the full cut INCLUDING Allo's vocals. The lyrics are corny but I like her rap flow, I'd gladly listen to her than Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" anyday.

Also love the fact how updated it sounds. The production is kickass and has a lot going on.

It began and ended very well.

I love the original and revamped versions both equally.

Glad I waited until I got home to listen to the full version again. As a new song, I'm digging the groove.........a lot. Can't get enough of the funk.

I love the original tempo, and vocals, with the original falsetto in there.

A remaster of the original would've been heavenly. This new slowed down version is not doing it for me. The little funky song is now something that I don't care for.

Please don't try to remake Purple Music Thanks in advance.

i haven't read the whole thread, but am I the only one who thinks the original is kinda boring? The new version is pretty agreeable.

If I heard the new arrangement live I bet I'd really dig it.

I feel kind of perplexxed about thing song and it's version, seems that I 've been suddenly transported into a past time..Even though remixed, it stays an old school funk..

Andy Allo's rap reminds me of EVE or Lil Wayne's...

At the 3' 46", there's even a short scream reminding me of Michael's..

the rap. while being a nice rap, this song of all songs, does not need 1.

the recycled songs that seem to be in there (sticky like glue, love etc)

as a 'new' song, it's ok. i would even go as far as to say i like it, i guess.

comparing this to the original, there is simply no competition. just like he

released "large room with no light 2009" which was a nice diversion when

it was released, but left me completely cold after that.

these are nice oddities to have and to listen to once in a while. they're ok

in their own right. none of them are "complete garbage" like people say.

whatever it is, i'm still interested in it and even the prince songs that don't

set my ears on fire, i still listen to a whole lot. they might not move me in

the way 30 year old songs of his still manage to do, but that's ok.

much as people seem to dog on this kind of sound of his in general, i like

it. his funk sounds slightly more alive than it did on other 'funk' records in

the last decade. it's a continuation of 20Ten and "rich friends". personally,

i love those cheesy synth sounds he's using and the layering of scratches

of guitar. in rock, you can trust prince to deliver, always, in funk he just

goes through phases. you either dig them or you don't. i can live with the

current one.

Nice detailed analysis and I'm right there with ya. I'll take what he'll give, and this song could have easily been forgotten. I'm glad we now have two versions. I really enjoyed the tracks on 20ten which so many fams are griping about, maybe because there were only a few standouts on a short album? But Sticky Like Glue, Lavaux, Laydown and Future Soul Song are fantastic Prince tracks in my book.

I can tolerate the bit at the end I guess. Whish he just used that for a 'new' song.

If he remakes a song, you can't expect me not to compare it to the original. And this is just a crime.
