Yeah, I like 1960's music. I wasn't really aware of The Monkees until MTV started re-running their show and then a local channel started showing it. I heard a couple of their songs beforehand, but I didn't know they had a TV show or even what they looked like, they just a group I heard on the oldies station.

Technically it is a legal issue, but that legal issue goes away in the blink of an eye when people aren't being spiteful dicks.

A "New Monkees" group and TV show was created in the mid-80's, but it flopped. I think the show only lasted 3 or 4 episodes. It wasn't any good.

It's all part of one negotiation. They want to use the name for future endeavors. Prince wants to own all the existing material. So, he's saying, give me what I want and I'll give you what you want. If my teenage kid wants to borrow the car tonight and I want him to mow the lawn this afternoon, we might work out a deal even though there is no connection between the lawn and the car.
