Prince sabotages himself time and time again.

This is so true...

we all know we have to accept it more or less. His immense talent on the one side and his crazyness on the other side...

But sometimes it is damn hard to accept... wink

What makes me feel a bit sad is that apparently he spends a lot of time studying the bible...

Which is ok, but nothing really great seems to come out of it..only naive views and strange habits...

I hope he will sometimes concentrate again on his music the way he used to do!

Not religion, no talking about digital or analog, thinking about selling cds via papers or at concerts...

Just creating songs again that get the attention of everybody who loves music

Unless he can read Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic, he hasn't read any of it. He's read a translation that gives someone's interpretation of it. And I'm guessing he focuses on the parts that reinforce his own views, as most people do.

How is he sabotaging himself? The only folks even remotely upset/bitter are you pussies here on the org. This is not getting any play elsewhere; its a non starter. He has been saying batshit stuff forever. Why would today be any different? Also, your ban of his products/tours means nothing to his bottom line.

Neither is his music.

The reason we're the only ones upset is that most people have forgotten about him completely.

Right. His music is so popular right now that his most recent U.S. album, a 3-disc set, is in the 99 cent bins at Target. And his last album wasn't even released in the U.S. because...it would have been so popular that Prince wouldn't have known what to do with all the money he would have made?

Yes, I know that people go to see his live shows and have a great time. But when he's not playing in your town, nobody is thinking about him except us diehards.

I am old enough to say "pussy" and the tabloid media in denmark? Like I said, its a non story. Really, not trying to start nothing but what about him saying whatever is surprising? Is it really worth getting up in arms over? I personnaly never really cared what an actor, artist, musician has to say.

I grew up in Clevalnd and live in Boston. I am fortunate enough to have friends everywhere. With that said, I know many of my friends went to the NY, Carolina and California shows. I can state that they have never been on the org or know of its presence. The org is not the final arbiter of all things Prince. You all pretend to be but you are not. As for the 99 cent thing, Amazon did the same for Gaga. Lastly, if someone I liked/loved so much caused me as much pain as this guy causes the masses here, why still be here? Why would you want to be in a relationship with someone who doesn;t want to be in one with you? Seems like a waste of valuable time. You could be getting a more satisfactory result investing your time elsewhere.

Lotusflower has been a top ten album in the US, right? And isn't it even certified Gold already (if not, it should be close to it)? 3121 was at number 1 in the US with Gold certificate IIRC, and Planet Earth was top 10 too. I sincerely doubt that all these purchases were made by members of prince.org. And I also doubt that all of the ca. 14,000 folks who joined me and my wife at the Waldbühne Berlin last year to see him live were members of prince.org. Just sayin'...

Actually, I'm doing laundry right now, and the results are satisfactory, thank you very much. lol We don't all put our lives on hold when the latest silly Prince controversy comes up.

I also know people with no connection to the org who went to those shows, and were surprised at how great a live performer Prince is. But the reason they were surprised is that they hadn't thought about him in a long time. It's been seven years since his last major U.S. tour, after all, and he's probably the only major artist whose back catalog has never been overhauled with remasters or deluxe editions.

Read the full interview

This whole topic discussed here has played on my mind since I saw it first posted, looking at some of the replies posted has left me numb...a handful are actually interesting and engage discussion in a human manner, but the rest is pitiful, thoughtless comments and statements made by people who surround their lives with soap opera...very very shallow.

I dont like to judge people, but what I have read here on this topic/post, shows humanity is in full di-gression rather than progression. (of course this is based on the fact that I would use the odd 800 replies as a basis for a scientific study)

Just remember one small thing, Opinion should not be confused with freedom or freedom of speech...

"

So, If you have formed an opinion of me by now, I would advise you to put this down and fuck off back to your irrelevant life. But just remember ONE thing, it is your stupid fucking opinion that invented me." JJG

Thanks but Timmy84 posted the entire article a couple of days ago.

This topic has been playing on your mind? Why? lol

It's a discussion about a news article. I don't see anything about the article or the responses that warrants so much mental strain on your part but if you feel that anything inappropriate has taken place that has caused you some anguish I suppose you could report it, right?

Religion is a terrible thing.

Prince lost his mind.

All due respect, but that doesn't mean anything. Which religions are "terrible things"? All of them? Have you studied all religions or for that matter any religions?

And what is so terrible about it? The whole discipline part? The whole worshipping a deity part? Not all religions have gods, not all religions follow the same structure or commandments.

Sure many religions share familiar ideas like treating others with respect, discouraging murder, theft, hurting one another. Is the good part or the bad part?

And yes, many wars have been fought in the name of religious intolerance. Many more wars have been waged for wealth, power, land, or influence.

religion is a drug which when used in moderate amounts can induce feelings of compassion, love and togetherness. however, like many drugs an overdose can cause paranoia and a schizophrenic personality. prince is addicted to religion and needs rehab.

1 good thing about Prince anouncing that he won't record (& release?) new music, is that i won't have to check the internet as obsessively to find out if he's released something new. smile

hmm, not sure if that's entirely a good thing. It's like half of a good thing. Less web surfing = good. Less music = bad. confused

when his interviews become a threat to national security then maybe i'll be concerned.

this threads gone on for 29 pages with only about a 5% hit-rate of respect for prince, if that.

at no point do most people take responsibility for believing whatever they read despite decades of being warned that print media journalists will rarely print in context.

honestly, what surprises me more than anything else is how prince can even be bothered talking to journalists about anything.

he doesnt need to say a word to sell tickets to his shows, and thats what he seems to be enjoying the most right now is his live gigs.

trust. who do ya? never a journalist.

That's a fairly silly take on it, I'd say. No. 1, it's established that Prince has used his no-recorded-interviews stance to claim that he was misquoted in the past. Domestically with a reporter from an extremely credible news outlet. The outlet stuck by their account of the interview, as I recall, and I believed them.

No. 2, it's really easy to chalk an unfavorable interview up to misquotes and some agenda by "the media" to make Prince look stupid. But here's the reality: Most traditional print media are so money-strapped right now, they don't have the money to fight a superstar in court over something they made up and published. The Gannett Co., the parent company to USA Today, for example, just announced the pending layoffs of 700 workers. This follows years of buyouts and layoffs and other extreme cost-cutting measures in the print media world. I guarantee you any reporter tasked with interviewing a nutty celebrity like Prince who makes interviews difficult is going to be someone trustworthy, if only to protect his or her newspaper.

No. 3, if you've ever carried an umbrella because of a weather report, changed your diet or exercised more because of a new health study, weighed the safety features of an automobile or other device you considered purchasing, based an entertainment decision on a media review or voted in an election (local or national) -- guess what? You've trusted the work of a journalist. You're welcome.

Exactly. If it was that big of an issue it wouldn't it make more sense to allow a recording? He could even bring along an assistant with a recorder and have his own copy of the conversation, or he could have simply issued a press release.

P cracks me up. lol

There's no shortage of good music out there. If Prince doesn't want to give us any more candy then we can get it from someone else. I stopped looking forward to new Prince releases twenty years ago. Not to say he hasn't put out some good albums in the meantime; it's just that I'm not filled with eager anticipation when I learn about a new Prince album, because the chances are it will be mediocre.

Prince seems to think that the world desperately wants new music from him. I would wager that most of his fans just want old stuff from the vault, and non-fans couldn't care less what he puts out.

In addition, we don't know about the bullshit going on in his head in the 1980s simply because he didn't speak about it. But someone who conceived and filmed the "Graffiti Bridge" movie cannot be completely free from bullshit imo. biggrin

Yes. Much, much more bullshit. And the difference being that there is no middle man, so he's taking the bullshit straight to the streets. No one left to protect him from himself. Unless you count the feeble attempts by Dr. Funkenberry, and those are transparent as hell.

nod Just co-signing this as well. Thisisit seems to live in her own little fantasy-cocoon-world where Prince's word is somehow more valid than anyone else's. This is not the first time this has happened. Prince is notorious for saying dumb stuff. If Prince doesn't want to be taken out of context or misquoted, he should allow journalists to record the interview, or record them himself and then prove that he was. Until then, it's just his word vs. the journalist's word. And with Prince having a history of making claims in the past that suggests he believes in chemtrails, believes hot-dogs are made of real dogs, and believes in creation over evolution... I know who my money's on wink

honestly, what surprises me more than anything else is how prince can even be bothered talking to journalists about anything.

he doesnt need to say a word to sell tickets to his shows, and thats what he seems to be enjoying the most right now is his live gigs.

trust. who do ya? never a journalist.

No. 1: can u show me some proof as to why prince chooses to opt for a no-record?

No. 2: print media may trust their journos to get them the story, and they may trust their editors to juice it up or print out of context. ever heard of a headline.

No. 3: i've never done any of those things except vote, and only cuz its compulsory.

your over-all point is still unclear to me because it doesnt disqualify anything i've said. lol

So Prince isn't going to release another CD anytime soon if at all?

Isn't that what the ORG general opinion has been saying for sometime now, to take some time off.

So Prince has said something that makes a controversy?

He's done it before and he'll probably do it again.

What are you as an individual going to do differently regarding Prince from this day forward?

Not a damn thing!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

nod Just co-signing this as well.

Now that's funny. When did he say that?

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Yes. Much, much more bullshit. And the difference being that there is no middle man, so he's taking the bullshit straight to the streets. No one left to protect him from himself. Unless you count the feeble attempts by Dr. Funkenberry, and those are transparent as hell.

So who was the middle man who saved him from himself in the years 1993-1995?

WB, of course. Even if he was at war with them, they still had a vested interest in sheilding the media and his fanbase from *most* of his bullshit. Fortunately, the only thing seemingly on his mind was WB. But you'll notice that within a year or two after that, he was suddenly turning on the fans and threatening to sue them as well.
