I'm late to do this, but THANK YOU to everyone that made this happen.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

First time hearing this. THIS is the reason many old-timers hope for a return to form. I know he still has it in him. Lose the horns, lights, and background singers P.

Many thanks!

And if the same people who got their hands on this have the Forest Nationals 1995 in soundboard quality, that would be even better! lol

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with this statement. I've come to terms that he no longer has this type of emotion and promise in him. So, I'll only be checkin' for his performances/tracks from years gone by. And it's kinda sad to have to come to this stark conclusion.

But, that frown immediately turns upside down when I immerse myself in these older performances such as this one!! lol

It amazes me that all threse years later, in spite of reports to the contrary, people still insist on it being two songs with two different titles.

It isn't.

It's just 'Roadhouse Garden'.

They are two separate tracks. "Our Destiny" (referred to as "Love-Our Destiny" on some of the work orders from that era) was worked on in the studio on Sept. 27, 1984 and the actual song "Our Destiny" has none of the elements for Roadhouse Garden on it. The engineer who worked on the session replied to the question of them being the same song with "No. That might have been on the same reel of tape. It might have been 3 tunes on that 24 track reel they brought." There is a reason that Prince wanted to name the reunion album with the Revolution "Roadhouse Garden" and not "Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden".

Hope this helps explain some of this and clears this up.

(information for this is from an early draft of PRINCE: The Studio Sessions)

Thanks. This is what I had in mind.

That's why I'd love to know about those 'reports on the contrary'...

I'm not sure it was kind to send you mp4s of a show that is widely available in lossless FLAC. The one who sent it to you should have passed that along rather than take the time to convert to lossy before sharing.

Anyways...

Maybe someone has already brought this up, but weren't "Roadhouse Garden" and "Our Destiny" part of one of the NPGMC shows from some years back? If i remember correctly, they were presented in rather poor quality, or rather, the same "audience recording" we became accustomed to over the years up until this release. Point being, if the man himself did not have access to these soundboard recordings, then who is the lucky b*st*rd who has bestowed this purple funk blessing upon us?

NO those songs were never presented on the NPGMC website. There was talk about it being released but that fell through when Prince and the band did not come to an agreement.

I think Small Club comes pretty darn close. Maybe some of the SOTT rehearsals? Like the one w/ Databank.

I dunno, though, this seems like the perfect setlist, the perfect people behind it, and the perfect arrangements. I appreciate it now like its entirely new to me because I'm so used to those fucked up and fuzzy versions of "Our Destiny", "All Day All Night", etc. If I ever slept on the Revolution in favor of the SOTT band, I ain't right now. lol

I prefer Prince without horns. Sometimes I can take Eric and Atlanta cuz they seem be just right, as far as the mix goes. But I can't stand the HOrnheadz, NPG Horns, Maceo, Najee, etc.

I sort of agree in part with you about this. Eric and Atlanta were the epitome of cool when it came to Prince and horns. I loved their sound, not too over the top, just there in all the right places.

Horns I can take or leave, I go through phases with them, but horns on tours such as ONA for example are great, that music needed horns, and again (to my ears) they were there in the right places.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that there is a time and a place for horns in Prince's music.

I have always been a huge fan of Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden, in its myriad of forms. But when I heard this, it felt like I was in the room with it happening. That's weird, because you'd think the previous versions with all the audience noise would accentuate the intimacy. But no...

I got goosebumps hearing this today.

I needed some purple magic, and we all got it.

sorry, but what is it that makes you think these are the same song? and what about this bootleg convinces you of it? to my ears it's pretty clear, now that we can actually hear them, that they are two different songs with absolutely nothing in common.

I think the story of Our Destiny and Roadhouse Garden being 1 song has now been put to rest.

Jesus, Something in the Water is infuckingcredible!

My thoughts on Roadhouse Garden are imagine it with completed vocals. Compare, for example, the 1983 live version of Baby I'm a Star to the album version and you can only imagine what this could have turned into.... maybe it was?

In fact the whole thing shows up the one really lacking thing in the Revolution, they weren't great with backing vocals that involved any kind of harmonising. They're fine if it's a robotic "DOES NOT COMPUTE" or "IRRESISTABLE BITCH" (or, a few years before, the shouty parts of Broken) but trying to get all the parts of the likes of erotic city or WDC was clearly too much for them. Jill Jones really helped with that imho.
