Just listened to it again for the second time.

This "release" is living proof that When Doves Cry is far too underplayed in Prince's "so many hits so little time" period.

Raspberry beret every year. But not Doves apart form a sample? Criminal.

eh, I dunno. I've rarely been a fan of the live versions of it post-PR tour. I really love the version here. the album version is impossible to do live, so it's revamped and it's funky and building to something all the way through. it doesn't really come off as well since this period as he mutates it into arrangements that accomodate the multitude of musicians and background singers that happen to be in that day's line-up.

As opposed to the caberet version of Beret we've had 15 years in a row...? wink

The other thing this shows is how sublime and funky Wendy's licks are. Modern Prince uses samples or keys for a lot of rhythm guitar riffs (aka kiss). In this show, Wendy picks it all up herself. Irresistable Bitch lives funky!

That's hyperbole. To my ears she's struggling quite a bit. But of course she was young and kinda new to the band. I guess you could say that she showed promise?

The wooh is on the one!

It seems too loose and jam-like imo. I have heard it tighter on the PR tour.

I'll never understand people.

When we have an audience recording, everybody says 'I wish we had this soundboard'.

But then when we have a pristine soundboard some long for crowd noise.

What do you want to hear, the music or the crowd?

Where is the queue of people wanting crowd noise!?

it sounds alot more authentic with the crowd mixed in and room microphones, making it sound more live. The performances they do is partially based on the reaction of the crowd. Especially when they're taking breaks communicating more with eyes and visuals, the music alone is not always feeling as strong. Prince is a very visual artist also. So the best would be a video of this performance too. Shouldn't be too hard to mix the audio with the video.

You can hear the audience just fine.

it is a great live boot...one of the best i have heard...no doubt.

.

but i must admit i am getting tired of hearing people comparing prince and his music then ...1984..to now..

.

he was still growing as an artist then...six years after his first release..so the music he was making and releasing was amazing and interesting...so yes..the music was of a higher standard then than what he releases now but it would be astonishing if it wasnt...name me any major music talent of the last 50 years who continued to grow as an artist thoughout their career ?....dont think there is one...

prince...bowie...stevie wonder...mccartney...lennon...brian wilson...they all had a 'golden period' where they grew as an artist ...released amazing, groundbreaking albums then started going downhill...that doesnt mean they dont make good , sometimes great music...its just that growth cannot continue for ever...and this happened to prince as it does to all artists...

.

the one thing i will say here is that compared to 1984 prince...he is now a far better musician than he was then...and he was very very good even then.....so its swings and roundabouts....yes he doesnt record what he did then but then he is a far better live performer now..imo

.

smile

I couldn't have said it better!!!

Say what? People help people plenty around here. You act like someone should be beholden to answer dozens of PMs about the sets when all someone has to do is google it. Seriously, that's all someone has to do.

Before I found the place I get a lot of my stuff from, I googled. Why would I ask someone something that I can find myself? Be self reliant. A good family member would encourage you to help yourself.

I (and others no doubt) would be delighted to be able to post a download link so people can get this release.

However, such a practice is against forum rules, we (orgers) do not set the rules for this place, most of us follow them.

So before you go on calling people names for not being a "family," I suggest you familiarize yourself with the rules first.

There are people on this board who spent days replying to private messages regarding this release.

And another thing, people who cannot even bring themself to say hello, please and thank you, and send messages like "send me the link," can quite frankly fuck right off.

RICHARDS indeed!

I expect people to at least try and find this release, just like they do any other bootleg.

This show was available in at least two places (at the time), and I was still getting messages from lazy people. Or people who simply refuse to acknowledge the power of Google.

As I also stated above, the messages were not really the problem, it was the content, no hello, no please or thank you, just downright demands.

But hey, the ones being sent these messages are just supposed to ignore that and act like a big happy family.

I did a very quick, very brief write-up of it on my blog to announce and said that I wasn't going to share a link and that it was available in the usual spots. The only comment was "Link?" from anonymous reader. falloff people are so douchey.

that's totally understandable.. but was is REALLY douchy is when someone has made a polite request to be refused a link. cuz it takes all of few seconds to paste & send rolleyes

i already had the boot b4 this thread but i've had that experience & that's not cool

Some people on here post like that and it's pretty clear that they aren't Prince's people, just people who want to get into Prince's pants.

Do you call offering info about the availability of a release bragging?

At least that way most of you get a clue about what's out there.

If it wasn't because threads about new releases are started as of late, the vast majority of orgers would have missed them like they missed gazillions of releases in the past.

i take it u addressing me? of course bragging/boasting, plenty of posts 'look at me!! aren't i lucky with my boot of the century!!!!' of course it's bragging lol but i ain't knocking that.

boots are easy to get & anyone with a clue knows where to check. i'm thinking of those that don't & politely ask 4 a bit of guidance.

this is a very nice thread & well deserved, but why the dramatic don't-u-dare ask me posts? just answer the orgnotes or ignore them wtf!
