What a performance, and what a recording - this should get an official release.

Someone mentioned earlier - is it any wonder why fans are so stuck in the past....this is the perfect reason why, this poo's all over anything and everything thats released today

EXACTLY exactly exactly!

I don't care for comparisons from prime to present, I never think that is fair or reaistic.

Anyway I am just happy that someone shared something Prince still has not to this day..unless he was behind this release himself ...which I can't say he did or didn't. He really needs to embrace his past though, it is part of his musical legacy that WE will keep fueling and embracing. Releases like these keep us guessing, intrested and excited. Who said they were bored as a Prince fan?

it is a great live boot...one of the best i have heard...no doubt.

.

but i must admit i am getting tired of hearing people comparing prince and his music then ...1984..to now..

.

he was still growing as an artist then...six years after his first release..so the music he was making and releasing was amazing and interesting...so yes..the music was of a higher standard then than what he releases now but it would be astonishing if it wasnt...name me any major music talent of the last 50 years who continued to grow as an artist thoughout their career ?....dont think there is one...

prince...bowie...stevie wonder...mccartney...lennon...brian wilson...they all had a 'golden period' where they grew as an artist ...released amazing, groundbreaking albums then started going downhill...that doesnt mean they dont make good , sometimes great music...its just that growth cannot continue for ever...and this happened to prince as it does to all artists...

.

the one thing i will say here is that compared to 1984 prince...he is now a far better musician than he was then...and he was very very good even then.....so its swings and roundabouts....yes he doesnt record what he did then but then he is a far better live performer now..imo

Right? His bad is alot more tight than it was back then. You can hear through all of the boot live shows how much he has grown and changed his style. I cant even compare this to the Dirty Mind Live boots because he sound better on this than he did on those..so forth and so forth.

You have a point, all artists reach a peak and then go down in quality. We should just appreciate the music as it is and quit comparing. It is nothing we don't already know and there is nothing that can be done....let's move on people.

Now....I hear so many things on Our Destiny I have never heard before! I can even still hear that same whistle on the original bootleg..but further away in the background noise lol That is cool.

That said, still don't like them, it, whatever.

I cannot disagree with you B. P is still a great live performer and I am not dissatisfied with his recent output of music. I'm just along for the ride and I enjoy it, very much so. He's not 'Wild & Loose' like he was back in the day. He's harnessed that energy and you can see it when he's live. I've witnessed two live shows that blew my mind (had a great time) W2A NYC and W2A South Carolina.

This (recent) boot is GREAT !!!

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

The only circulating versions of Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden were of the same recording as this one in very very bad quality, and a rehearsal version for this show in a warehouse. There is video of that session circulation too; however the audio is not that great on that recording either.

One last warning. the org is not your source for boots, in threads or on the DL. A few orgers "in the know" are being slammed with requests via orgnote and treated very rudely at times. If you can use the Internet to find this page, you can find this release. The orgers being harassed have the option to report the requests, so ask at your account's peril.
Seriously, it's not hard to find. AT ALL.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Oh wow, I disappear 4 a couple of days from this thread and now it has a new addition to the title it has gotten so bad, hehe. Mainly the nubes?? Cute...

But anyway, I got a chance to listen to the show a couple of times and I do love and enjoy the clarity of the recording. I hear new sounds, backing vocals, and few new Prince vocals that I haven't heard from the '26' release. But one thing bothers me, which is the loss of the edge. I'm an edge person when it comes to listening to edgy Prince songs, and it's lost in Erotic City, and somewhat lost in Something In the Water. I enjoy the clarity and crispness of the beginning songs and Noon Rendezvous, but the meat of the sandwhich is lite compared to the audience recording that captured it all. Not complaining, but I now I know what songs to replace with others between the two great releases.

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

They are two separate tracks. "Our Destiny" (referred to as "Love-Our Destiny" on some of the work orders from that era) was worked on in the studio on Sept. 27, 1984 and the actual song "Our Destiny" has none of the elements for Roadhouse Garden on it. The engineer who worked on the session replied to the question of them being the same song with "No. That might have been on the same reel of tape. It might have been 3 tunes on that 24 track reel they brought." There is a reason that Prince wanted to name the reunion album with the Revolution "Roadhouse Garden" and not "Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden".

Hope this helps explain some of this and clears this up.

(information for this is from an early draft of PRINCE: The Studio Sessions)

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Maybe someone has already brought this up, but weren't "Roadhouse Garden" and "Our Destiny" part of one of the NPGMC shows from some years back? If i remember correctly, they were presented in rather poor quality, or rather, the same "audience recording" we became accustomed to over the years up until this release. Point being, if the man himself did not have access to these soundboard recordings, then who is the lucky b*st*rd who has bestowed this purple funk blessing upon us?

Add me to the LONG list of those who are ecstatic over this release!

Everything about this is epic to me: the setlist, the energy, the sound quality. This was my first time hearing this show in any form. The Revolution is and always will be my favorite Prince band. They are by no means his best technically, but their vibe was awesome. As has been said many times already in this thread, Brownmark's bass playing is off the hook!

My two favorite performances have got to be "Noon Rendezvous" and "Something In The Water." "Noon Rendezvous" is just too beautiful for words; I just can't understand why Prince gave it to Sheila and didn't release his own studio version. Had he released it, I'm pretty sure it would have been among my Top 10-15 songs of his! I LOVE the Clapton-esque take on "Something In The Water" and how it just builds and builds...when Prince screams "Tell me, baby!" I get chills.

"Roadhouse Garden" is super funky and ridiculously catchy. I have to learn all the lyrics! "Our Destiny" falls a little flat for me, but still works brilliantly as the first half of a "suite" with "Roadhouse." The opening guitar work on "Erotic City" is right up there with the hottest solos on the Undertaker E.P., IMO.

EPIC release! love

Well well well. First of all don't get me wrong... It's great to have this gig in soundboard quality. I appreciate the energy, the spontaneity of the show.

But I'm far from finding the whole thing a "bomb" like a certain someone announced this boot would be.

1) First of all I hear the technical limits of some Revolution members all along this gig. Yes I said it. Bobby Z is a decent drummer but he is no Michael B or John Blackwell I'm afraid. And his drumming style and sound hasn't aged well at all.

2) Listen carefully to Wendy on the guitar. Ouch. Miles Davis would have fined her so many times during this gig she would have ended totally broken by the end of the evening.

You realize this was Wendy's second show. I don't quite hear her fucking-up. I think they sound good, not as polished as shows later on, though. Which is to be expected.
