I really am speechless, that is mind blowing
What a performance, and what a recording - this should get an official release.
Someone mentioned earlier - is it any wonder why fans are so stuck in the past....this is the perfect reason why, this poo's all over anything and everything thats released today

Ha, I've got that one too. Paid way too much for it too. Don't think I've listened more than once.

I would really appreciate it if people could STOP sending me orgnotes about how to obtain this (and other) releases.
It's getting right on my fucking tits!!!
Spend two mins on Google and all your prayers will be answered. And if after that you still can't find what you want then kindly ask somewhere else!!!
Thanks. | |

The best version of When Doves Cry I have heard. Even studio. They are jammin on this.

Whew! I'm glad I'm not the only one getting hammered! If people would put as much effort into really trying to find it as they do in asking everyone here on the Org for it, they'd find it in a couple of minutes!

Wow..this album is amazeballs.
Noon Redezvous...I kinda still like the rehearsal more....extra electric guitar and emotional strumming but its still BAD ASS! Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I have always been a huge fan of Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden, in its myriad of forms. But when I heard this, it felt like I was in the room with it happening. That's weird, because you'd think the previous versions with all the audience noise would accentuate the intimacy. But no...
I got goosebumps hearing this today.
I needed some purple magic, and we all got it. Once upon a time in a haystack of despair; happiness sometimes hard to find, yeah.

I agree.Who needs a new album? I'd rather get more stuff like this! Open those vaults and release it all!

Much as I like this, I miss the audience sound, wish there was a bit faded in, it adds to the sense of excitement and being there and it sounds a bit studio-y without it. I also miss the overdubs on All Day, All Night, they make it much better IMO.
Theres something about low quality boots that sometimes adds to the mystique!
However, I'm grateful for this version to hear what Our Destiny and Roadhouse sound like without all the extra noise. I'm also grateful to the anonymous benefactor and the guys who are public spirited in arranging this release for free.

Let's just remind people: this gig was a couple of weeks BEFORE Purple Rain (movie and album) were released. "When Doves Cry" was released only a couple of weeks earlier.
And here is Prince playing B-Sides and UNRELEASED music.

Part of the charm of the show is how unpolished the band is. For instance, Prince flubs the first line of When Doves Cry and deftly turns it back on the audience being too quiet. Prince became super polished around the Rainbow Children time, IMO.

So it's Bobby trying his best to kill When Doves Cry?
I'm loving this show. Not blown away by Roadhouse Garden, it's a decent enough jam. I think if this was unheard and on one of his recent albums it would be offered up as another example of how he's lost it and hasn't done anything decent since he first played the Batman theme on his parents piano.
Some amazing stuff here though. I've never liked the Something In The Water album version but this here could end up being one of my favourite Prince tracks. Absolutely stunning, I keep playing it, can't get enough. Truly magnificent version and up in orbit compared to the album version. It's night and day, completely awesome! RIP

Was this a 20,000 seat arena show? He still plays the lesser know stuff at smaller / aftershows etc. Heard some great tracks at the Indigo shows in '07 that I never thought I'd hear.
As much as I'd like to see another tour along the lines of The Gold tour or One Night Alone, I can't blame him for taking the big pay days of the arena shows playing hits. Is he supposed to do 21 nights with no hits playing to 500 orgers every night? RIP
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Ah, the old excuse. When has he played such an arena lately?
Bullcrap. Same Sly covers he's been playing since 1998. Look at the much hyped Viage aftershow from last year: he played virtually the same things he'd been playing on tour.
Oh look, it's the "we can only choose between two extremes" bullcrap.
Why wasn't there an uproar in First Avenue when Prince played virtually all unknown music? Could it be that his audience was open to adventure back then?
So why then did that change? Oh let me see: could it be that Prince chased away those people by playing the same damn hits & covers & medleys year after year?
Look at this 1984 gig: - Two songs that remain unreleased to this day, and that were clearly in their ifnancy then. - Three B-Sides. - Two songs he gave to other artists, one of which wouldn't be released until years later. - His latest single.
He didn't just play one or two rare songs, virtually the ENTIRE gig consisted of music the audience didn't know.
Go look at an average Purple Rain tour concert: he played B-Sides ("God", "Irresistable Bitch",...), an unreleased song ("Possessed"). He did that in front of massive crowds, and even on a TELEVISED concert. © Bart Van Hemelen

For real! I make one tiny comment and BAM!
Besides, How do we know who you newbie orgnoters are?

Seriously? The Forum is 18,000? Maddison Square Garden is 20,000? The O2 is 23,000?
That is such a twatty reply I don't even know why I'm engaging you.
The end. RIP | |

Well well well. First of all don't get me wrong... It's great to have this gig in soundboard quality. I appreciate the energy, the spontaneity of the show.
But I'm far from finding the whole thing a "bomb" like a certain someone announced this boot would be.
1) First of all I hear the technical limits of some Revolution members all along this gig. Yes I said it. Bobby Z is a decent drummer but he is no Michael B or John Blackwell I'm afraid. And his drumming style and sound hasn't aged well at all.
2) Listen carefully to Wendy on the guitar. Ouch. Miles Davis would have fined her so many times during this gig she would have ended totally broken by the end of the evening.
3) It's a shame Prince's voice and guitar are not always well placed in the mix.
4) If tunes like Our Destiny or Roadhouse Garden were released today, I'm not sure the hardcore fans would be as indulgent as they are in their comments today (having said that I quite like these tunes).
5) Brown Mark reminds us the excellent bass player he was (and still is).
Again. I'm more than happy to have this in my collection. But I much prefer the tightness, the craziness and the energy of other performances back then.

Thanks, you expressed my opinion better than I could.
It's funny and paradoxical: Prince is a better musician now than he was in 1984, but there's a kind of "laziness" is everything he does nowadays (live or in studio) that's frustrating.
