Yes, I've been watching this channel for the pass 2 years. They've shown African models on the runway, participating in fashion shows all over Africa and Europe. They have a program that focuses on travel/customs of various ethnic groups throughout Africa. I have one sister who watches African movies (DVDs), and the other has been hooked on their "Generations" soap opera. There's another movie, but I believe it's series called "Ella" about the apartheid system that took place in South Africa and the devastation it caused on families/neighbors, while breaking them apart it. I had no idea Africa has their own Oscar award show, until I caught a program talking about it. They also have a program dedicated to Black filmmakers and non-Black filmmakers who make movies surrounding various sectors of African life/culture/history/socio-political issues. They have a show called "Red Kiva" featuring African musicians/artists from all over Africa, as welll as African musicians/artists who are citizens in other countries, including the U.S.
For instance, I posted about Cameroon born artist "Andy Allo" who now lives in Los Angeles, sometime ago in the non-prince music forum;she was featured on the "Red Kiva" program sometime ago, that's how I found out about her.

There's also Ethiopian born "Wayna" - her sound reminds me of a mixture of Eryka Badu and Billie Holiday
Wayna - "Mr. Duracell"

Oh one more thing I left out of the earlier report about the presentation and couldn't leave this important piece of information out..............during the performance of "Cool", Prince danced his pacheekas off, he shook his pacheekas all over the stage, then stop for a minute and rotated them slowly to the left, then to the right, then just stood there and shook it. He was also doing the "funk face". Honestly, I don't know where Prince gets all that energy from. ] [Edited 4/20/11 18:45pm]

pacheekas.. thankyou! wow whew indeed.. u describe it so well!
is it from the performance at the forum?

I believe that footage was from one of the Carolina shows. They seemed to be having so much fun during that performance. Prince was getting it in. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

This was at the Charlotte, NC show. I was busy typing the play-by-play, the other night and last night on here, that I didn't catch other details, and couldn't leave that very, important part out for the Ladies. When I finally sat and watched it tonight in full, I have to tell you, Prince and all 3 singers were burning a hole through the stage floor. He was swaying his pacheekas back and forth, and he had a serious funk face on, dancing and jumping all over that stage. The audience was definitely feeling the energy he was throwing at them. Looked like a lot of fun. Shoot, forget the "diet (rap singer) Missy went on"..he needs to let the secrets out as to how he stays so fit, because the brotha is in tip-top shape.

Yes it is from the Charlotte, NC show, because he gave a shoutout to Charlotte. It was funny watching the audience trying to keep up with Prince's energy. They got a free workout.

i still find this africa channel 'project' very odd... purely because it's seems inaccessable by so many. i wonder if it's a case of i'll scratch your back? maybe all will become clear. i'm glad someone saw it! thank goodness for 2elijah & her vivid descriptions!

I'm surprised I had the patience to do the play-by-play, but thanks. I noticed that a lot of fans here had access to that channel, so I figured why not at least let them know what was shown. Also, I guess a lot of people feel the way like you do because most are probably used to him having something like that at one of the mainstream stations. I think it's cool that he gave the Africa channel the opportunity to broadcast this special. The credits stated that Prince and Harriet Cole are the Executive producers of it.. Maybe he's trying to pull in other demographics from the international side, seeing how it is a station that focuses on modern African culture/lifestyle/the arts/filmmakers/musicians/artists, etc, and the African audience is obviously that channels main target, but has given access to American, European and other demographics. I've had that station for 2 years and watch some of their programs off and on.
Harriet was the one who did the Ebony interview I believe, so he obviously is friends with her as well. At the beginning I forgot to mention, they show Prince, Morris Hayes, and other band members walking in the backstage area of one of the venues, they were walking behind a security person. they also showed the band members taking a photo. It also stated at the beginning that the African Channel, that their channel was given exclusive access to backstage at the Charlotte, NC/LA Forum shows. [Edited 4/20/11 22:55pm]

There was definitely some high energy going on in that performance, and it was very, clear footage. Prince had some serious JB footwork going on, the kind of moves he's made his own. [Edited 4/20/11 22:33pm]

I liked it!! I thought the live parts were amazing... But I would love the see Let's Work in his full... not half..
I'm laughed at that crazy woman who wants to spank Prince and the crazy Prince look a like on the piano... that was a guy a fan right?? [Edited 4/21/11 4:55am]

Yeah, I was just able to watch it. One thing I did see was an advert for the 21st-23rd shows at the Forum, and then it said www.theafricachannel.com. I wonder if he's going to do a last-minute stream on their website, or it could've just been a simple plug for their site. Who knows.
Other than the concert footage, it was just a bunch of ppl kissin' his ass in and out of the venue.

... wishful thinking there KCOOL. I pray for something like this to happen but, I 'kinda' doubt it. I'm starting to think we won't get much past albums, the occasional talk (after hours) show and state to state concert. My man is KILLIN' it on stage and the music sounds great but, I am not expecting much past that, I'm sad to say. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

If you want to see the whole broadcast, a quick google-search will do, it's all over the net, including Shelby J's Facebook. [Edited 4/22/11 12:05pm] [Edited 4/22/11 12:07pm] Busy doin' something close to nothing

I finally got a chance to see this and thought it was very fun! I loved seeing the fans sing their fave Prince songs and I loved seeing Prince get the respect he so very deserves!! I am loving George Lopez even more...he is a real fan and that is great to see. I knew Prince had that spirituality about him that makes you just want to be in his presence. And GL is right....PRINCE IS THE KING OF ROCK AND ROCK!! This should have been aired on a better channel! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I think it premiered on the Africa channel, simply because P probably finds this channel, appealing and educational, it opens up to another culture, possibly he just wanted all of us to get interested in this channel, and bring it to the light, im guessing, because why else would he???
i missed the special dont have the channel, ive read the good the bad, and the plain ole ugly, i'll go as far as to rate this program/special as average. "How Can I Stand To..Stay Where I Am? Poor Butterfly Who..Dont Understand." P
