So, this is Prince on the African Channel discussing or having discussed his American tour which is called "Welcome 2 America"?? I missed the boat on this one.... typical Prince. I guess when he tours Africa, he'll have a tour called "Welcome 2 Africa" and show it on TBS here in the states. lol

No, it was a short documentary-type, behind the scenes. See my post for a quick recap of what was shown. It is bascally to promote the LA 21 night stand shows. Harriet Cole, who was former editor-in-chief for Ebony magazine and I believer she was the one interviewing George Lopez on the show.

There are many Africans (from Africa) now living in the states, as well as those in their 20s/30s who were born here, and have parents who came here to live years ago, so he's probably trying to target that demographic as well. I know a lot of people who watch the Africa channel. It was a pretty good insight into one of his performances at one of the Charlotte, NC shows, where he performed "Cool" and "Let's Work" which they gave a good 15 minutes in total of both performances.

It was nice how the cameras spotlighted all 3 background singers as well. They showed Prince and Shelby J dancing to "Let's Work" and Elisa walking/singing/dancing around the stage and Liv singing and dancing as well. I think they were doing that bird dance (?) not sure. A lot of fans were seen on there as well dancing on stage, and they showed quite a number of fans making comments about the show and stating what Prince meant to them as a musician/artist.

Many cable channels carry it, but I guess it depends on what type of package you ordered with your cable service. In NYC it's channel 87 on Time Warner Cable.

Who does Prince's promotion? Prince is not Africian. He is American.. Put the specila on a channel that less then 10% of the US recieves. It should have been on BET. Better yet put it on FOX. Get the whole country excited about a new Prince tour. Last year he released a cd in only 3 countrys. This year a special on a non wathed channel. Says the Internet is dead. The internet is alive to get his new music and tv specials. If Prince really loved his fans he would not mke them go to underground way to get his music. People are starving for great music. Prince makes great music. Why make it hard for starving people to the the music? Trah music like the awful Friday song get more attention than any song Prince has don in the last 5 years. Why? Greatness needs to me made avalible to everyone. When you are hungry and only have crap to eat you eat that. When you have tasty food and crap you go for the tasty food. We need more great music to for the crapuy music out. Prince make your music widely avalible to all of us. We will pay for it if it is for sale. wne it is not for sale or limited in its avalibility we mus go to underground methods to get it. Princ you have great music. i want to hear it. I will buy it. I can't buy it. You don't make it for sale to the the people that have been with you since 1978.

lol Oh for crying out loud. He doesn't have to be African-born, European-born, born in Central/South America or any other place to have the right to advertise his shows on any particular station.

It is obvious he's trying to reach out to many demographics--international vs national audiences. He went to George Lopez' show to obviously reel in the latino demographic, so why not the African channel to reel in the African-American citizens (those who are African immigrant adults who are living in America now and are citizens/ and those in their 20s/30s) who are Prince fans.

Harriete Cole was one of the interviewers on that presentation;she's also former editor-in-chief of Ebony magazine, and interviewed Prince for the Ebony magazine article. She's worked on the African Global Project which features contemporary African art/design/crafts from all over the world. She was probably, more than likely involved in working with Prince to get that presentation on the African channel, to reel in that demographic and to expose them to Black American musicians/artists. Just a guess, but I think it's cool that he's not limiting himself to who he wants to be part of his audience or fan base, and he shouldn't have to.

I wonder what Prince has to do with "showcasing the richness, diversity and beauty of modern Africa and its people"? Last time I checked Prince is not one of modern Africa's people. Hell, Ghadaffi is more modern African than Prince.

That's like putting me on the Norwegian channel because my grandparents were named Peterson. I guess maybe I can help showcase the richness, diversity and beauty of modern Norway and its people.

I don't understand... If the channel offers what the bold part says, then wouldn't it make sense that people of color would watch? And if that is true, and Prince wants to reach ALL people, then he'd be showcased on there so we can see it? confuse

When I was searching my cable's TV listings, I found the Filipino Channel, several Latino stations, a Korean station, etc... Ya never know. Prince might turn up on one of those... lurking

Well, it was a cool presentation, and nice to see he's reaching out to other demographics. I was surprised he allowed almost a 15 minute showing of his performance doing "Cool" and "Let's Work" and snippets of other songs he sung at the Charlotte, NC show. It repeats twice tomorrow night.
