I was shocked that a whole performance of "Cool" and "Let's Work" was shown. Also a snippet of him singing "DMSR". All 3 singers were given the spotlight in that half-hour presentation. The Africa Channel keeps advertising the LA shows for the 21st, 22nd and 23rd, seems like every 5 minutes.lol

That was actually one of my favorite segments of his show @ The opening of his 21 night stand here @ The Fabolous Forum(ex home of The purple & gold Lakers) in the beautiful land of the stars Cali4nia.....

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

there's something very odd about that sentence.

I guess they meant to state just "21 nite stand" and not "W2A". I watch this channel all the time and it's a very good channel, and lives up to what it presents. Thanks to the orger who notified me of the show tonight on there. hug

[Edited 4/17/11 19:00pm]

The odd part I was getting at is that the channel identifies itself as "fully dedicated to showcasing the richness, diversity and beauty of modern Africa and its people" and yet is presenting a concert by an American in America?

from the way the channel describes itself, I assumed it was all-Africa, all-the-time.

I'm assuming now that they are the "Africa Channel" in the same way that MTV is "Music Television" or TLC is "The Learning Channel" lol

Oddly enough, the co-founder of The Africa Channel is a former DirecTV exec.

The channel is not carried by DirecTV.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Actually it is a show that focuses on Africa and its continent, but also interviews Black American actors/celebrities. There's an award show, sort of like the Academy Awards that award Black American and African actors for their roles in movies and contributions to the film industry; also Black Americans have acted in African films. I believe Janet Dubois, who used to play in "Good Times" heads that award show.

There's really nothing surprising about them showcasing a Black American artist, because they have a show that showcase musicans, interview Black American actors/celebrities/musician, so no surprise that Prince is featured. We have many Africans from Africa who are American citizens living here and are very much a part of the American population now. I'm sure there's many living in Los Angeles as well, that'd be interested in going to those shows.

From what I saw on the website, it looks like a pretty good channel. Unfortunately, my cable company doesn't carry it.

I've been watching that channel since last year. They have some very interesting programs. They have a weekly show where they interview various musicians/artists, and shows focusing on culture/the arts. They also have 2 to 3 soap operas with a variety of actors/actresses from various backgrounds. They certainly do a much better job with programming than BET and Centric in my opinion.

They'll be showing an infomercial of "FELA on Broadway" on Tuesday, 8:30pm EST. This was the broadway play about famed musician, activist, Fela Kuti. I loved it;saw the play 2 times on Broadway in NYC last year. Now they will show a taped version of it on the Africa channel on Tueaday.

It comes on right after they show "Prince:Behind the symbol" 8pm EST on the same night at 8pm EST/ They'll repeat Prince's show at 11:30pm as well the same night, Tuesday 4/19.

I'm on cloud nine. I just finished watching 30 minute documentary show. I would call it more of a fan appreciation, and behind the scenes intereview of actor/actress. Little dissapointed that I didn't get a glimpse into his dressing room . smile The content switched back and forth from the Forum to NC show. It was great to see everyday Prince fans (one girl had tattoo of Prince Symbol, and we got to see some down home folks from NC giving much love to Prince).

The stars: Paul Stanley from Kiss, Myra Rudolph (Minnie Ripperton's daugher), Boris Kodjoe.. so many, including the guy from Under Cover Brother and Rochelle Aytes who played in one of Tyler Perry's flicks. George Lopez "behind the scenes" - shared his personal background and attachment to Prince - the artist. Really interesting.

Like others mentioned, we got to see a snippet of W2A (NC) show with his Royal Badness doing Cool and "Let's Work". cool

Man, everytime I see him ( since W2A Oakland) he blows me away. We are so lucky to experience Prince (an artist who plays, write, sings, performs, can jive with everyday people). The reason this is a big deal is we are polluted with the likes of Lil' Wayne and Co. My boyfriend was commenting on how (fat) his backup singers are: Shelby, Lisa and I cannot remember the other girl (she reminds me of Venus Williams sister). I could have slapped him. I love NPG divas. I like the idea of 3 highly talented, wailing-divas that are beautiful, womanly - voluptuos women in his corner.

I learned he discoverd Shelby in Las Vegas. Learned the TwinZ are British (can someone confirm this?) and he choreogrpahes them. This is really hands on! Amazing. He's like the Wizard of Oz (behind the curtian) - has his hands in everything. No wonder he doesn't sleep much (said in one interview).

Back to Africa Chanel. I'm so glad they got the exclusive. I've been watching Generations, Jacob's Cross and Isidingo (my favorie soaps) for 6 months. Purple People, this is all I watch. My dream is Prince plays South Africa and I am there in the front row. I get to go on stage and dance with the other beautiful South African funksters.

I hope you'all can catch a glimpse. V

Yes, Fela on Broadway will be shown on Tuesday night at 8pm on the Africa Channel. I saw it on broadway twice in NYC when it was here. It ended in December. Glad they'll be showing a taped version of it on Tuesday, 4/19 at 8pm.

So, this is Prince on the African Channel discussing or having discussed his American tour which is called "Welcome 2 America"?? I missed the boat on this one.... typical Prince. I guess when he tours Africa, he'll have a tour called "Welcome 2 Africa" and show it on TBS here in the states. lol
