Much to learn.

Good to know someone here knows about the 25th Dynasty, which was the era the Nubians ruled Egypt. King Piye was an interesting man of sorts. I took an interest in this topic about 6 years ago.

http://wysinger.homestead...nubia.html
The Nubians are believed to be the first human race on earth, and most of their customs and traditions were adopted by the ancient Egyptians [Diodorus; History, Book III: 2).. To the Greeks, they were known as Ethiopians and Nubia as the land of Punts, i.e. the land of gods.

you know a significant number of ppl aren't going to like the song because the word Black is in it. they'll assume its the African-American male prince who needs to shut up and not be "political" or spiritual and just play music. they'll take black in the title as rejection on a personal (or dominant culture) level. not comparing the songs, but this thought process has shown up in threads about such songs as Dear Mr. Man or Family Name

I've never seen anyone say anything like that on here, and if they did they'd get a beatdown hard and fast.

People do pick apart Prince's political naivety and paranoid conspiracy theories because it's so easy to do. This has nothing to do with crypto-racism.

Unfortunately, an orger did mention that Prince needs to shut up and not sing politically-related songs, as that orger felt that because Prince is friends with Cornel West, Tavis Smiley, Dick Gregory, that by singing these types songs, he is trying to make up for his supposed lost connection with the black community/black fans during the 80s, which I found that type of statement to be a bit ridiculous,. It seems Prince always wrote/sang songs that touched on either socio-economic, political or race-related issues, throughout his career- "Family Name", "Mr. Man", "Avalanche", "Dreamer", "Ronnie Talks to Russia(?), just to name a few. I do think some fans were "jaded" by that or choose to not readily accept ome of those songs, because they touch on sensitive issues, they may not be able to accept from a man who successfully crossed racial lines with his music, and some of those fans probably feel it is safer to stick with the pop/rock 80s era Prince, with the songs, that didn't make them think too much about the uncomfortable, existing, socio-political or race issues that truly existed at that time too.

The thing is artists/musicians like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Gil Scott Heron, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, The Tempations, just to name a few, have wirtten/sung songs that touched on socio-eocomic/race/ war and polirical issues.

But even with that Prince has still managed to successfully cross racial lines ,with his music, and that's a positive thing.

what ever his perceived disconnection from the Black community may have been in the past,

one thing is shonuff true...and that is at the moment it's very strong. Its good that Prince takes

pride in his heritage as a Rainbow Child, and hopefully he will bring his ass to Africa in the near

future

Yes I did.lol The vids touched on a lot of the 60s political era and the black musicians/artists around at that time. Those were the days where you could not ignore the societal/economic, and certainly "racial" issues that were going on at a time, where people were still fighting for human rights. It was music by the artists/musicians at that time that helped to "spread the message" and "awaken the conscience" of sleeping Americans. The issues at that time certainly could not be ignored, not even by musicians/artists. They were a very big part of raising social/political awareness through their music.

Nothing wrong with having a "Black Muse" in your life. I had/have plenty who have inspired me to never sell my dignity at any price, love who I am and the skin I'm in, as well as standing up against those who actually think they can own your dignity and spirit by trying to find all kinds of ways to "bring you down". If you have love and acceptance of self, none of that can ever be taken away from you, despite the evil ways of others that one may encounter throughout their lives. My muses come from all walks of society.

That is my mother's favorite movie. My sisters and I watched that movie with her over the years several times. The part where they show the character "Eurydices" as a little girl dancing to the character "Orpheus" playing the guitar( or was it the uekele?), and she's on top of the hill dancing, reminds me of my mom as a young girl, when she told me the story of when she was a little girl, and how she and her cousins and the kids on the part of the island where her grandfather lived, would go up the hill in St. Thomas, VI, to visit her grandfather, and watch and listen to him play the accordion. She and all the kids would dance when he played it. The actress who played "Eurydices" also reminds me of my mother as a young woman, because of her long hair and complexion. The actress who played the part of "Eurydices" cousin, always reminds me of my Aunt Inez. Love that movie. I must have watched it at least 10 times over the years.

It's called "Black Orpheus". It's a Black Brazilian love story. If you're lucky to find it translated in English then that's cool, but more than likely you should be able to find it with English subtitles.

Thank you, All! Brilliant analyses.

In my humble opinion, it's as much personalized, as it is generalized,

of which such ambiguity has always been a highly-standardized

and hotly-debatable trademark of Prince's conceptualized presentations.

The Black Muse has been strongly hailed and saluted in every performer,

and indeed in every encounter. However, he is steadily, as there still exists

room for him to delve even deeper, taking it back even further beyond

the confines of the Purple Rain threshold to a time when yes, the Deity

was personalized as The Black Muse: The Isiac period of The Madonna and Child;

Piye and the 25th Dynasty -- now, that's a movie that needs to be made and is

so much akin to what Prince is demonstrating in his new conquest -- thus

cementing a new awakening that will enrich our generation, and those to come,

with a dynamic platform of a legacy so strongly foundated, that if proudly stood upon,

there just simply will be no limit to new minds devoid of the confines of rooftops!

However, the presentation does take on the semblance of a much more

personalized affirmation with the simulated segue into The Beautiful Ones!

Granted that, yes, Purple has now been restored to His Eminence, is life

now imitating art and is The Kid now once again caught in a Love triangle?

Is the battle between Set and Osiris once again being fought? Are Romulus and

Remus still engaged in war? Do they share a common Muse?

Is The Black Muse, in this instance, wise enough to seek not to fuel a feud

and maintain balance?

Well, if she Loves them both, and I think she does, strongly and deeply neutral,

and one man's gain will become another's pain, can she bear to see

either in pain?

So will she recuse, is there something patently flawed with

her views, will she just simply not choose?

And in so doing, will that be a sensible enough choice for both to find their way

back to the brotherhood they once knew wink ?

Happy New Year to both of you rose rose You know who you are!

The choice is Peace! It is always a better choice!

There is indeed a lot of work to be done!

hmmm

People do pick apart Prince's political naivety and paranoid conspiracy theories because it's so easy to do. This has nothing to do with crypto-racism.

you make a good point Nouveau about the "ease" of picking apart prince's political naivety (which i don't think is as naive as some think on some subjects, but that's another thread...). the thing about racism is that for many, it IS cryptic in a way because it produces blind spots, biases, double standards, and privileges people aren't even aware they have. so for YOU the clarity is there (your posts have shown that), but i don't think you can say that for others' automatic aversion to Black Muse (or other songs in such a "category")

Not off topic at all ! - in fact this little clip may tie in the whole Black Muse idea, according to Love33's post #333 - she, the girl in white may represent the one restoring peace in the brotherhood peace

However, he is steadily, as there still exists

room for him to delve even deeper, taking it back even further beyond

the confines of the Purple Rain threshold to a time when yes, the Deity

was personalized as The Black Muse: The Isiac period of The Madonna and Child;

Two brothers:

rose Willing & Able rose
