Maybe a I-Hate-Prince site? Or a MJ site? A fan site should CELEBRATE the beloved musician, not insult him! MJ fans don't sit and discuss if MJ was a pedo or not!! We talk about good things about him, share his sexy pics, and talk about how amazing his ablums are. IT's enough haters in the world, we are supposed to be here to give LOVE...that's what a fan site is all about. Anyone saying Prince has lost it and they hate his new music is NOT a fan, they used to be a fan. But if you don't like the person he has become, then you need to leave. Period. For those that think Prince is a wacko or moron for becoming a JW, then they need to leave! Because it's who he is and he doesn't have to change or answer to anyone here. Why stay and insult someone so muc?, That is a sign that this person is so full of misery that they have to project it on Prince. Prince said it well in a interview, "It would be great if people spent more time saying all the things they like instead of spending your life insulting someone else."

When you write in bold italic purple, it shows how much you love Prince. nod

I think the "crux of the problem" and source of the "eternal war here" at prince.org is :

People being rude and disrepectful/unempathetic in communicating their ideas/opinions/beliefs to others.

If people are being decent when communicating, it is possible to have a civilized conversation/dialog with differing viewpoints.

Example---If you talk to me with respect, I'd be even willing to listen to your explanation of why "jughead" is the best Prince song ever. I completely disagree, but would be willing to see your viewpoint and not devolve into nerdy internet flame wars with you.

Problem is, the web is a microcosm of the real world. People immediately draw lines in the sand, compare contrast, and belittle anything that strays too far away from where they live / their reality.

To the original topic of this thread: I don't think Prince ever lost it. I just prefer some of his flavors to others. "Jughead" tastes like crap sandwich to me.

"New Power slide...."

I think the problem is that he set the bar so ridiculously high for a vast portion of his career that anything release after the 1980s is deemed "garbage". That is not necessarily the case.

The Golden Years: 1978-1989:

I think as many have pointed out that in the 1980s, he had a very few musical missteps, but by and large, the music was SO GOOD that he was expected to wow the music world with albums on par with 1999, Purple Rain, or Sign O the Times . Even with the "weak" albums of the era(e.g-ATWIAD, Lovesexy, Parade)they still were musically fascinating.

Chaos & Disorder: 1990-1999:

In the 1990s, he still churned out good product, but the war with WB, changing musical tastes, and questionable moves tarnished his shine quite a bit. I personally think the Symbol album and The Gold Experience are the best works of the decade and blended classic Prince with current tastes, but some people will tell you they detest ALL of his 1990s works. His forays into rap turned some away and his freedom may/may not have affected the quality of his work. When the albums were bad, it was not necessarily for lack of skill, but because they sounded like everything else.

Respected musician: 2000-2009:

Excluding The Rainbow Children (messages aside, the musician ship is very good), the music of Prince was not really on the public radar until 2004. The live appearances, tours, and solid (and unspectacular) albums have made him part of the conversation of great musicians. On the album front, the music has been bland, but he seems to be rediscovering his mojo with 20Ten.

SO to answer the question, when he is motivated, he's on fire, but his back catalogue makes everything that comes after seem bland.

If you don't, then why are you still here really? And don't give me the "b/c I can" crap answer. That's a copout! You're here because you're addicted to the man like the rest of it, you just hate to admit it. And criticizing him somehow justifies being here, since you really think he's crap but you stay anyway. Like that makes any sense whatsoever!! Or perhaps you really are just so miserable in life that you feel the need to criticize someone else's gift? Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Prince is a genius and everything he does is purely and simply amazing!! Every single song he has ever put out at least somebody likes it, so it has succeeded in showcasing his brillance!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Yes Prince is a genius and everything he does is genius work, since it's coming from a genius how can it not be? lol There are many songs that you or I may consider "crap" but 3000 other people may think it's Prince's best work. So does that mean the song isn't genius just because you or I don't like it? Someone saying "I just don't feel his last few ablums lived up to my idea of Prince" is an opinion, It's showing their dislike for the music. But crap like "Prince is old and has lost it" takes on a whole new demeaning tone. So no, on a fan site, the crap shouldn't be allowed.

I'm not addicted to Prince in the slightest...I just cone on here because I know I share at least one interest (not addiction, not obsession) with others here.

I think that's the crux of the problem right there. These purple Kool-aid drinkers were bugging me as well, but I'm actually beginning to see their point: If, instead of:

"When was the moment you realized that Prince had lost it"

this thread was instead called:

"Think Prince lost it? When?"

the tone might have not gotten everybody's backs up; 'cause it's not stating that Prince has 'lost it' as fact.

... this thread has turned and circled and spun out of control. I thought the question asked was legitimately a good question. Some of us may think he's still on the mark with the music and lyrics and some of us may feel like 'meh', he's lost a lil of that edge. That's the difference between being 25 and say 45, you're not the same man or woman you used to be. None of us are. Let's all agree that he's a musical genius that from time to time writes music/lyrics we may not 100% like.

First of all, "because I can" is the perfect answer and you can say it's a copout and that's your opinion. I'm going to assume that you're referring to another Prince fan that seems to have your panties all in a bunch, and not me. Because i'm not on here that much lately. I only post on things that seem somewhat interesting, which is a rare occasion these days mostly due to people like YOU.

This site used to be a place where Prince fans of all ages and in all stages could come and reminisce, discuss and yes debate various topics regarding the man that obviously all brought us here. It used to be a fun place.

Now it's infected by the likes of you. The "fams". Or as I like to call them, the "kool aid kids".

The people that literally as you put it think that everything he does is "purely and simply amazing". You could even justify "Purple and Gold" somehow in your mind. And anyone that doesn't subscribe you how YOU feel about that man is "pathetic" and "miserable". Who's the really pathetic one? The person that can admit "Jughead" is shite, or the person that has a Prince tattoo, an uncomfortable amount of Prince related clothing in their closet for someone who isn't 13 anymore and a deep seeded hope that one day because they defend their idol on a website that he doesn't read that he'll thank them for it?

Yeah, i went there.

Simple question. When was the moment when you realized that Prince had lost his ability to make masterpieces, that his muse was gone from him? When did you realize that his "classic era" was over?

have not yet reached that moment..

Of course we can never say when and how Prince looses any part of his mind. He is constantly changing, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. I am simply glad he continues to produce music, and as long as he keeps on doing that, then he truly hasn't lost it.

We are all so full of doody here

Also, people remaining here because they used to love Prince and now they want to criticize what they feel doesn't live up those earlier standards is perfectly valid. So long as they can express it as opinion, not fact.

Exactly.
