Controversial and HIS business but...

When he became a JW - everything about him changed and his religion pulled way ahead of his work for the first time that I can recall. Every bit if him changed from performances, subject matter, reinvention, work ethic, sound, interviews....

Or maybe it was when he became Prince again (all around the same period-ish)

I guess it's his choice as am' individual but it was a massive turning point in all aspects of 'my' Prince

three words.

THE GOLD EXPERIENCE.

to this day i can only stomach 3 songs off of that album.

319, Shy and Billy Jack Bitch. the rest of it is GARBAGE.

Pussy Control makes me want to slam screwdrivers in my ears, and the lyrics to Dolphin make Lenny Kravitz look like William Shakespeare.

yeah, i said it.

Barry from High Fidelity - "is it better to burn out than to fade away...subquestion; is it unfair to criticise a once great artist for his modern day sins?" Where's Prince going, - warming up for Vegas and residency to churn out his hits 'show' after 'show' until he snuffs it and realises Larry was cheap and just didn't want to buy birthday or Christmas cards.

After so many years in the business, U have 2 understand that if Prince wanted 2 just sit back and ride his little red corvette through the rest of his years he has more than earned his right 2 do so. We expect our heroes 2 live 4ever and do what they used 2. We all knew 1 day Michael Jordon would retire or begin a new phase in his life, so why can't Prince?

Agreed.

I don't mean that some of his fans are immature, I mean in the sense that when they get older and/or their priorities in life change. U never know what the future holds. smile

But, honestly.... some folks here are very immature. razz

Just one more thing on this, and I'm sure many people would agree. After hearing sooooooo many discouraged, disappointed, let down, angered fans... why remain here? Is there no one else that U listen 2? I would think that if it ever got 2 the point where I just couldn't take his music I would most likely just move on 2 something new.

Some of his biggest critics here are those who are on the org every hour on the hour and I don't get it. If U don't like his music now, why stay?? Simple question: not looking 4 fights or crazy remarks. I think this is a good question that someone should answer. smile

Because some of us hate our 9-5s more than we hate his music lol

I'm kidding, I dobt hate his music...it's lost it's shine for a few years that's all...I'm in a weird phase where the oldies are played out and the new stuff, on the whole, isn't filling the gap...im at 50% Prince power

i'll gladly answer this one.

Because I can. And i don't say that to be snippy, I mean it.

I've spent the majority of my life being a Prince fan, and spent probably thousands of dollars on the man's music. he's had an impact on my life that cannot be measured. so why wouldn't I be here?

as much as some of you would like the Org to be a "hive mind" where everyone has nothing but shiny happy feelings about your purple lord and saviour, it isn't and is never going to be that. his career span is too long and his fanbase is wonderfully diverse enough to where that is impossible. everything isn't going to hit everyone the same way. and it shouldn't.

now to the topic at hand.

First of all, i'm 42. so let's squash the theory that people are "too young to appreciate Prince's change". that doesn't even make any sense as it tends to be the younger fans that think that NOW is the "golden age" and it's the oldheads that think/know that he's lost a step.

We've had this discussion before.

Some of the most prolific artists in history have "lost it".

the 2 examples i love to use are Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis.

you cannot with a straight face even suggest that Stevie Wonder is the same artist that he was. you cannot compare anything he's doing now with what he did in the 70's.

ditto with Miles. you cannot look at what he did as an artist, the impact he made on the music world and jazz and then listen to those last few albums and go "yeah!!!!!"

some artists only get ONE brilliant album. one time to make an impact on the world.

Prince had a HELL of a run from For You until he dropped TGE in my book. some would say that there were signs a bit sooner. I remember the first song from Prince that i ever NOT liked was the title track to Graffiti Bridge. some would probably argue that D&P and/or prince had some filler as well.

I didn't get off of the "train" officially until NPS. and since then i get on and off depending on what i think of what he's doing. Rave, off. ONA, on. TRC, ON. NEWS, OFF. i loved Lotusflow3er, but haven't heard the new one and no one's mentioned that i should get it, so i assume it's crap.

did that answer your questions?

The poor streak of Emancipation - New Power Soul - Rave.

My faith in his ability returned with Rainbow Children,

smashed again with Musicology and 3121,

slightly improved again with Planet Earth and even more with 20Ten.

Hopefully he still has got one or a few good albums in him..

I'm with you as a fellow healthy train hopper...I say healthy because nothing 'good' can come from kidding yourself that each album is no more or less genius than the last...each track is identically perfect each time. I get on and off the train at different stations to you and I started to feel travel sick around prince when he stopped doing b sides and jumped on the bandwagon of "what's cool with kids?"

MY point is you should get 20ten...I disliked it at first and a couple of tracks Fenian turgid but, on the whole, it grows on ya to be a middle of the road album...it probably won't be your fav but I'm certain it won't be your least fav

I don't really feel like Prince has lost anything, compared to other artists he has always maintained an abundance of raw talent. It's just hard for people to see his newer music as anything good because of the vast success of his classics. But like I said, compared to other musicians, his work is always genius in some way (whether it's the song composition or mere lyrical value).

And together we'll stare into silence.

mushy

Everyone has a creative peak and it goes downhill from there. I don't understand why people get their titties in a twist when folks mention this.

If Prince were anyone but Prince, fans here would be calling him a has-been.

- I agree to an extent. Things don't necessarily have to go "downhill" but they will subside to a certain point. He's older, he's had so much success; instead of focusing on making legendary work, he's just making music that some might find enjoyable. If you're a fan, you'd understand that.

Maybe a I-Hate-Prince site? Or a MJ site? A fan site should CELEBRATE the beloved musician, not insult him! MJ fans don't sit and discuss if MJ was a pedo or not!! We talk about good things about him, share his sexy pics, and talk about how amazing his ablums are. IT's enough haters in the world, we are supposed to be here to give LOVE...that's what a fan site is all about. Anyone saying Prince has lost it and they hate his new music is NOT a fan, they used to be a fan. But if you don't like the person he has become, then you need to leave. Period. For those that think Prince is a wacko or moron for becoming a JW, then they need to leave! Because it's who he is and he doesn't have to change or answer to anyone here. Why stay and insult someone so muc?, That is a sign that this person is so full of misery that they have to project it on Prince. Prince said it well in a interview, "It would be great if people spent more time saying all the things they like instead of spending your life insulting someone else."

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

If Prince were a has-been, people would call him that. But he's not! He's changed, which is totally fine. He changed from Controversy to Purple Rain. From Purple Rain to Sign O The Times, etc. So WTF? It's all still great ablums!! So he's doing the same thing now, just because someone doesn't like it, doesn't mean the artist is washed up. Because some people really LOVE 20Ten and alot of new fans are coming to Prince everyday. So as a real fan, I understand and embrace the change. Prince is taking us to a whole new level and I'm ready for the ride!!!

Not at all - it would be an idiot thread on a stalkers site...but not on a site where people don't think that even the sound of him taking a tricky shit is genius.

If you think everything he has done is genius then you are in the wrong place....you should be rooting through his bins and spying on him with binoculars
