You... pay... torrent sites....???

obviously not. i dont use them, and the few i checked out wanted my money.

can you imagine the nerve? chargin people for access to files they didnt create?

are there free torrent sites where my computer wont get infected by one their crappy diseases?

not asking for a name or link, just a yes or no but i'm presuming there are considering the tone of your post.

I have NEVER been to a torrent site that asks you to pay. Sure some have a donation link to help with server costs, but not pay. I have NEVER gotten a virus from a torrent site either.

I'll have both camps yelling at me on this one, but I think despite Prince's statement being completely ignorant, using newspapers to distribute his music is a great idea.

Remember, Prince shouldn't be thinking about making a quick profit right now (though we suspect that's probably what he mostly thinks about anymore lol ), but he should be concentrating on growing his market---introducing the "Prince" brand so to speak to a new group of listeners. Where he sold over 100,000 some odd copies (I'm not sure of the total number) in the first week of Lotusflow3r, he'll have 20Ten distributed to 2.5 million in the UK alone in one day. This obviously is no indication of the customer's interest in even trying the new product, but I suspect much more than 100,000 are going to give it at least one spin. Newspapers are the youtube videos HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN USING FOR YEARS to get the message out that he's still alive to some folks.

However, there's just no way our boy is going to be able to stay away from the Internet. If it isn't placed on the web by him, it's placed on the web by someone else for free. All he has to do to siphon a good number of potential theirs is release a kickass album, great cover art, and offer it for quick and easy download.

Most of the folks reading this would gladly download a special edition of 20Ten on iTunes with additional artwork--the dead internet could make the guy a lot of money. lol

Nice to see someone taking the lead on Purple Yoda avatars lol

We don't have the album. We have mp3's. The album, with the official disc and art work is not released yet. Prince got paid in advance for the discs, probably much more than he could make by offering downloads.

We don't all have mp3's.

The magazine that comes free with the Saturday edition of the Daily Record, gets delivered to newsagents 1-2 days early every week. My friend simply asked the newsagent to sell her a copy of the magazine.

I got mine last night (Thurs).

so the paper isn't shrink wrapped and it's the mag that is wrapped, the mail on sunday was completely wrapped up with pe.

I've seen it around. However, I DID NOT get it! I DO NOT have it! I HAVE NOT heard it!

From the reviews, I've read. I'm not missing much, so I think I can continue to sit this one out, like I did the Lotusflow3r website without regret. giggle

There goes his theory of EVERYBODY clamoring to illegally download his work. shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I like that method too and i use it often for other music. But when it comes to Prince (and a couple of other artists) i like my hard copies.

If i lived in a country where 20TEN was not yet available, or i had not managed to acquire a copy last night, i would have downloaded it for sure.

no it wasn't. for PE, the CD was wrapped in the same way as 20ten, shrinkwrapped in a bag with the telly mag etc, and shipped to stores on the saturday, and on the sunday the paper was delivered seperately. that's usually how they do it with the weekend papers and supplements. the supplements are done in advance and sent in advance, the papers are done seperately so they can print... well, not news in the case of the papers we are discussing, more scandal and make up crap, but they have to get the latest photos from the paps like upskirts of drunken popstarts falling into taxis. if they didn't have to do that they could just print the sunday papers on a tuesday

i still have one or two copies of MOS shrinkwrapped with PE somewhere

Just got my copy off the Web. Listening to it now. Honestly, it was not that difficult to find--about 20 to 30 minutes of searching and after wading through all the sites that supposedly have it but really didn't (at least as a free download without having to sign up for something).

To answer the topic's question, let's say

I got it without having to leave the chair I'm sitting in typing this reply wink

Which, by the way, doesn't mean I will be buying the magazine containing the real CD. Gotta keep my collection complete

All the dates so far listed for a usa release can't be real because they are not on a tuesday. In the Usa 99% of new releases come out on tuesdays. Plus, there is no promotion of such release. I'm thinking late July or even August, if the USA gets a release.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Here is a mid-thread warning:

Talking about it (ie; I got it from the Internet) is just fine. Saying WHERE on the Internet or any other specifics will get you a 1 week vacation.

Please read and heed these words. It will save a lot of complaining when people get banned.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

BlackandRising

Reading these threads regarding 20Ten and Prince's remarks regarding the internet, and how he prefers to get his music out there...aren't a lot of you proving his point? I gather that he meant, with regard to the internet, that regardless of who you give it to to sell it, it's going to get out, and people will download it without paying for it. It's just a sign of the times. So in his mind, he figures out how to get paid so that he feels he's been compensated before it's passed out as a link and quickly sent to 20 friends and so on and so forth.

WIth this in mind, it's kind of hypocritical to denigrate his comments, when you're pretty much doing exactly what he's talking about, which is why he felt the need to "abandon" the internet and find other means of distribution.

Just a thought.
