I KNEW Alicia Keys was going to do that song. It's been on her playlist for years.

Lool sorry I thought this was prince.org but EVIDENTLY ive entered the hood ?::snaps fingers:: but now you stop ::coughs:: "GIRLFRIEND"
Millions of people on youtube seem to be replying back to his videos viewing them and saying he can sing, his songs are quite successful for a new r&b artist yet Im the one thats tone deaf. I respect your opinion nonetheless and hope you didnt break your teeth and split your skull open with blood gushing out as you feel of that chair .
I think he can sing, you think Im tone deaf You think he can't sing, I think your tone deaf and being silly. "Its all good" you the Prince.org internet gangster would say. lool x [Edited 6/28/10 17:00pm]

And she did it so well. She is such a remarkable live performer, I had no idea.

He sings with a very complex vibrato which can sound hideous live over an electric sound system.

I thought that was her. That's guts to be a bald chick around Prince . I'd have a weave coming out my ass to make that man happy. I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me. Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots. Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol. Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol. Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

LOOOL (IF you laugh more it makes it seem like its the truth)
Its odd for Trey to sing a bit of purple rain ON A NIGHT THAT TRIBUTES prince? Im not dealing with you your actually an idiot and Im not even saying it to be rude.

Yall, keep Nursey away from me on any night that Prince is performing or being honored.
The patient was sweet? "Oh baby, you go rhett ahead and watch your lil Princey poo, that gangrene and MRSA can always be "shoo'd" away later darhlin." Da Hayel? Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

I didn't know mediocre successful singles and an album + views and comments on youtube = talent. Thanks for informing me! and yes, you're still tone deaf.

Now see...I fault BET for a whole lot of things but I can't fault BET for that one.
Trey thought that one up all on his own. He felt since he's that new hotness and all ......and it was ok for him to sample "Purple Rain"...it should have been just fine and dandy for him to perform "Purple Rain"...in front of Prince, himself!
And HE WAS RIGHT!
How'd that happen?
. [Edited 6/28/10 16:47pm] I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

For the very reason some people love his voice and feel it fits with the guitar sound of purple rain some think it sounds bad. I don't agree with what your saying but I can't argue with it, unlike “truep..” whats his/her face your intellectually expressing what you think logically.

He wasn't asked to tribute Prince. PERIOD. So it doesn't matter. Because his tribute never mattered from the get-go.
The only idiot is you, going to great lengths to defend a no-talent hack. What a pity. [Edited 6/28/10 16:49pm]

When you put it like that it did seem odd both Trey and Patti singing Purple Rain, he could have picked any other Prince song or let BET know before hand, but probably he though Purple Rain blended the best.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It was obvious his voice is the real deal, not studio created. That's why I was impressed with it. But at the same time his tenor vibrato is not for me. Less is more when it comes to that particular vocal trick. I actually thought he sounded the best when he transitioned into Purple Rain, and I thought the tribute was spot on with the theme of his song.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It was definitely BET's fault for letting him do it.
I could see if he spontaneously decided to do an accepella version of it.
But, if you saw the performance. It was definitely BET approved.
From the Band playing the song to the Purple lighting and raindrops on the screen behind him.
I didn't really mind him doing the song in the 1st place. It was bad timing because it was right before the actual Prince tribute just 10 minutes later. Where Patti LaBelle would be performing the song.
They should have NEVER allowed the same song to be performed twice on the same show.
To me, that's just unprofessional.

Your the one falling from chairs, acting "hood" going red or purple in the face, where just talking/writing each other? "Sista girl you so crazy"
Sticking by an opinion isn't hard work, especially on a board.

Oh I see, so he wasn't part of the damn tribute, no wonder it was damn odd when Patti started singing it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
WHAT kind of sound system should they use? ALL sound systems are electric. For that matter ALL recordings are made with some kind of electric sound system... guess that guy sounds hideous everywhere but in the shower, huh?

Despite the antics, that Janelle Monae girl can really sing. I thought she did a good job with Let's go crazy.

Oh is that a ghetto way of calling yourself a retard?
No I don't think your a classless twat I just think we have a difference in opinion .
By the way theres nothing more on my part that needs to be said to you or on Treys performance, you didnt like it, I liked it, SIMPLE. But feel free to reply back more irelevant remarks

Sounds more like a goat mating than a vibrato

After hearing Trey Songz version of Purple Rain, I'm kinda wishing that Prince would charge 10x the going rate for his songs to be used ( re the Questlove thread that happened a week or 2 ago) in order to prevent travesties like that.
IMHO, it was out of line. At the least it was an affront to Patti since it was known from rehersal that she was singing Purple Rain. A tribute was already planned to be women singing Prince's songs (notice the intro was the beginning of "Girl" before Janelle started screaming Let's Go Crazy). When I heard him singing...my first thought was "WTF, if this is the beginning of the tribute, this is gonna suck"
Anyway, I can only hope that someone, be it the BET producers or Trey's manager, smacked him upside his head when he got off stage.
Random note, the best part of the REAL tribute was a toss up between Prince holding up Patti's shoe after she kicked them off or the fact that Prince, in essence, got a pregnant woman to jump onto a piano and gyrate to one of his songs. Talk about the power of his music. Either one, PRICELESS! ...Girl, U excite me so......ooh wee baby, I bet ur quite a lover.....

You don't now what retort means? Not only are you tone deaf but you're an idiot.
Ok, I'm done going back and forth with someone who's tone deaf and stupid.
Good day! | |

What the hell is "complex" about his vibrato?
He sounded nervous and tired to me. His performance was really terrible.
I mean no disrespect to him or his talent, I'm not that familiar with him. But his performance of "Purple Rain" was embarrassing.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
lol, what I meant was it carries better in the studio where they can adjust the background music more to suit his vocal style. He's a talent, but he sounded tinny last night.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Lets get this straight, Trey Songz doesn't have a "vibrato" and he can't sing. Deal with it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly. If everyone here holds the secret to Prince's success then find an artist to promote and prove your point. Prince has been managing to eke out a career from this music thing for over 30 years. I think he might have a handle on it by now!
When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Lol, that's how a lot of people feel about vibrato. Less is more.
