They should let Bilal open the Prince set...........and end it with Mint Condition.

What about Anthony Hamilton? All I know is Usher or Chris Brown's ass, better not even think about being part of that tribute. lol

[Edited 6/17/10 12:57pm]

Has Anthony ever said he was influenced or did any Prince styled joints? he can sing but he is more of and old "Soul" singer. I never thought of him in regards 2 Prince. That might be interesting seeing him tackle a song like Adore.

Lawd have mercy, lawd help us, I feel like channelling Red Foxx. I just said I hope Usher's ass was not going to be part of the award show, and I'm hoping he is not part of the performance, but his name has been added to the updated list of performers. Here's the current listing:

Not to mention, Mr. Minstrel "T-Pain" in the ass, will be a performer, as well as "Eminem". Let's just hope for the tribute, they will have decent artists, no as a matter of fact, let's start praying now, that there will be decent artists participating in the tribute, and some of the ones listed here will not. At least we know Alicia Keys will be performing.

Alicia Keys

Diddy - Dirty Money

Kanye West

Rick Ross

Drake

Trey Songz

Usher

Nicki MinaJ

Ludacris

DJ Khaled

Eminem

T-Pain

Not sure if Anthony has had any direct influence from Prince, but he is on Shelby J's new Blackgypsy album.

I wouldn't worry about it. Since Prince isn't making a fuss about Youtube anymore, it'll probably be on there and a whole bunch of websites, of course, with the exception of this one disbelief before the final credits finish rolling. shrug

Also I meant to type "Nicki Minaj" not "NinaJ" lol This list is not looking too good at all, with the exception of Alicia Keys. lol

They show the hot mess that was Mj's tribute last year. I'm sure that would want 2 redeem themselves 4 that alone.

Except for the MJ debacle, BET usually does decent tributes. Since Stephen Hill is a huge Prince fan, he should be able to get this right.

Mint Condition would be woot!

Prince is doing a good job so far with the build up promotion for his mini tour & album release. First the unveiling of the mega hit single "Hot Summer" on his Birthday June 7. Then the cool new swagg cover & interview of the July issue of Ebony magazine. Then the ultimate announcement of Lifetime Achievement Award from BET on June 27 2010. This is shaping up to be a summer hotter than this I don't think so..............

Really.

Kanye is ok I suppose, but i wouldn't blame Prince if he stayed home.

I can already see how painful it will be watching any current lackluster "artists" take on a Prince song.

With Prince still arguably the best live performer alive, I personally would find it insulting to have any of the current crop of half ass "performers" flopping around mutilating his work. If there was anybody worthwhile it would be ok, maybe someone like Alicia Keys, but who else is there?

I really hope BET doesn't even try to do this. Just play some clips, give him an award and some cake but please dear god no amateur hour karaoke. Sure Prince has released some really bad football march songs and such lately but having him endure a BET tribute is just cruel and unusal punishment, even for an atrocity like Purple & Gold.

I am already cringing about what they might have in store for poor Prince, it aint gonna be good or painless that's for sure

[Edited 6/16/10 23:24pm]

eek Come on now BET is not new to this, they are , true to this...with all the outstanding talent out there, there is no need for amatures or karaoke, Prince has people and artist he admires and enjoys their skills, as well as they enjoy him, so the show will be hot, captivating and out-the-box in it's celebration to Prince...I love Alicia Keys but she is not the only artist that is gifted and a blessing to watch...this site gets very close to being condescending, patronizing and disrespectful to people who are different from them...BET puts on one of the best, if not the best, innovative award shows in the game, not limited by color, content, age or genre'...come now people, free Ur mind ...and the rest will follow....

I think Janelle Monae will be involved, as well as Maxwell and Ne-Yo.

I thought maybe Solange Knowles will sing something too since she likes him so much. And how can there be a Prince tribute without Rihanna, lol.

The BET Awards has sucked in the last few years and with this list of people performing, it'll probably be more of the same. The one part of the show that typically doesn't suck are the tributes and tribute performances. I hope and pray that they don't do Prince dirty with his tribute. Hell, I hope Prince is funky as shit that night IF he plays. We will see in less than 2 weeks.

If they get the right acts 2 perform, this should be raelly GREAT. If they get the wrong acts 2 perform, it has the potential 2 be a complete MESS. I's think BET is going 2 pull this off.

They show the hot mess that was Mj's tribute last year. I'm sure that would want 2 redeem themselves 4 that alone.

MJ celebrations was great considering they had only 2-4 days to pull it out...they chose to celebrate his life instead memorializing it, just life Prince they were the back drop of alot of our lives and we grew up with them both so BET will honor Prince in electic, stylizated and sensational way he deserves...but I do agree, a special highlighting his accomplishments could better honor him...but that time will come and for positive reason also. Love Prince or just embracing his electric approach to music, life and preforming Prince deserves a whole program to hightlight all he has contributed to so many generations, genres', speaking on social issues and the rights of artists as well as providing take no prisoners style of performing and entertaining...man, he needs his on special, just as MJ continues to recieve and rightly deserve. cool

Whose to say BET won't honor Prince in the utmost respectable way. While the artists noted are certainly not in his league, I would imagine they certainly admire and respect Prince and will do their best to pay homage to his legacy which in SOME respects are they.

Anthony Hamilton is actually a big Prince fan. He has said it on several different occasions.

On the Monique Show (one of the few times I watched because I CANNOT stomach her) he said the "The Point of It All" he was trying to do a Prince-type ballad. Actually, if you watch him on the BET Awards where they did the tribute to Chaka you can see his admiration while watching Prince perform/accept his award.
