It's fucking shit. I can't think of anything good to say about it. I'm not too fond of his recent output, and could find plenty of negative things to say about a song like say... Lolita... but this to me is something else entirely. It's just absolutely dire and lacks any creativity, musicianship, lyricism or anything worthwhile whatsoever. Horrible pop music, including Korean or Japanese girl or boy bands that I would gladly pan, put out better stuff than this. Purple and Gold is almost better than this! lol

MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

Play this on the radio in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Austria and two things are bound to happen:

(a) many who bought tickets will read the fine print to see if they can get refunds

(b) casual fans won't bother buying tickets at all

lol Of course those things would not happen. People will still go to see Prince in concert and can be safe in the knowledge that he probably would not even perform this "new" song.
Just somewhere in the middle,

Prince is just plain bad on ProTools. He's apparently again utilizing some sort of an analog monosynth, but has just recorded a few notes and copy pasted them on the track. C'mon, he was able to play those things 30+ years ago, he should be able to still pull it off.

I guess the track is stylistically and quality-wise somewhere near the lesser tracks and the outtake material from the early-90s.

I was being a bit facetious, Keithy, but only mildly so. Let's just hope that the material on the new album is more inspiring than this. It's downright embarrassing.

Anybody else think Prince is killing his career extremely quickly?!

No I honestly don't think many other people are even aware of him still recording until he does something like 21 nights or this summers concerts. Even the lotusflower, mplsound, elixer release barely registered as a blip on the UK music scene radar. I've got friends who genuinely like Prince but are not as "fanatical" as me and they had never even heard Crimson and Clover until I posted a video link on facebook the other month. 2-3 years after it was released. His 80s legacy is his strength and I don't think he is any danger of destroying that. he's so outside of the system and industry now.

Some of you hate the interview before you've read it, you hate most everything post 80's, you hate all his recent Internet releases, @ this point coming on here to bitch is just lame on ur parts. It would make more sense for u to be here if you like some of his recent output but otherwise ur wasting ur time sad Oh that's right... your life wouldn't be complete w/o sharing ur misery w/ others. Dammit!

As for the song.. it's a pop song, light hearted & fun.... that's it. No deeper than Raspberry Beret. If he made something deep you would say why won't he do something fun. Whatever he does you want the opposite. He IS NOT going to make music u like anymore... EVER! lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

Not that long ago, we could at least say that, despite a song being bad to Prince standards, it still surpases much of what any regular artist would make. This time around, it's a shame that webspace is even used to stream this. It doesn't hold up by any standard. And no, a second spin didn't make it better. I even forgot about Cause and Effect because it's all so predicatble middle of the road. Purple and Gols I still remembered - for all the wrong reasons. I don't hate all that is post 80s Prince, or 90s etc, but the last three freebies were better left undiscovered.

I still say that we will not be able to judge this one song accurately until we have heard the entire album. Sometimes a different song will build energy of a type and roll into a song like this and it is kind of electric. Prince has always been good at delivering total works.

Play in the sunshine is a good example of this off of the SOTT album. If you were to hear it for the first time outside the context of the album you would probably say... Is this the theme from the Flinstones? But it works as part of the whole. A truly beautiful piece driving in right behind the title track.

We are all so full of doody here

The strong reactions mainly come because it's Prince himself who drove the idea of being an innovator and to try things out on his public because they even expect it from him to be challenged. Well, this is a challenge, but not because it's so adventurous or daring. It's a bit shocking that he of all people thinks this is something people want to hear when they are fan of Prince, the innovative musician. Maybe some of the reactions sound hateful, but some positive reactions are so over the top that it becomes ridiculous. O hail, a new purple fart has arrived! rejoice!

I think Prince may be better off writing about things he cares and believes in regardless of sales, and stay away from trying to have a younger pop song on the radio. We saw how well that panned out in the 90's. People can tell this is just going through the motions to have a pop summer song.

I would much rather have him sing about his chem-trails and colonized mind than a disingenuous manufactured song by a 52 year old man about a hot summer night, that is unless he had something interesting to say about a hot summer night, other than just an excuse to awkwardly force that phrase in a song.

Regardless of the message, i would much rather listen to an artist that has something new to share lyrically or musically than just trying to pander to what the artist believes the audience wants to hear (MplSound) Its especially painful from an artist who's claim to fame is in part by creating a different sonic and lyrical style to an artist that seems desperate to fit in with the kids in the school yard.

Corny doesn't even begin to describe this. This sounds like something a Prince clone would do on mp3.com for attention. With that said Cause and Effect was more interesting. The lyrics make me wonder if Prince had his girlfriends write all his prose in the mid to late eighties.

I bet you the Current won't say anything either but "This is a great summer song! " Talk about Pandering to the fullest. Is he going to do Freezing Winter? Crunchy Autumn? Cool Spring. This song deserves it's one spin and then Prince needs to be told the truth. You don't deserve a spotlight for this song, try again and actually make a song that shows you spent some time on.

Seriously, every broken heart can mend? What the hell? You Prince Stans who praise everything, this is a perfect example of Phoning it in. I can't recommend this to anyone.

Here I will write the lyrics to your Crunchy Autumn

I wake up and try to find my way

Leaves are falling from the trees today

Kids are going back to school

They need education so they arent fools

Chorus:

Ohhh Crunchy Autumn

Crunchy Autumn

Stomping all over those leaves is so much fun

Hey World I think this is the one

(drum fill)

Turn on the radio and what do I hear

The new Prince jam that I hold so dear

It's on the current and it's Thumping

Can't wait to go to Bunkers and get it Jumping

Chorus:

Ohhh Crunchy Autumn!

Stomping all over those leaves is so much fun

Hey World I think this is one

(drum fill)

The fall is a time to fall in love

Relaxing with a girl lookin at the stars above

Hey look in the park, is that a dove?

I think we're in love

Ohhh Crunchy Autumn!

Did I mention this shows that Prince doesn't spend that much time writing anymore because he believes he doesn't even have to make an effort to write a song? Mr Nelson, guess what? You do. I feel bad for the Current. They have to pretend to dig this song. They can't pull a "Pitchfork" and say they dislike this song and find it to be subpar. They have to praise a Phoning it in ditty to get more tracks. Don't worry Jim, I understand radio politics.

Rating of Track: D-

P.S. Yea, you can use my lyrics if you decide to make a seasonal follow up. falloff

Ok the lyrics are very simple and not that good but its a nice pop song and not bad at all. Very catchy and easy goin. I realy enjoy it and was listen 2 it around 30 times 2day. Thats more spin than I gave any song on that crapy musicology album when it came out and I first heard it.
