I'm the type who thinks when a person has nothing else to say/write, he/she needs to stop talking/writing. There's no shame in that, especially after 40 years. It's like a form of retirement.
Maybe he should start releasing instrumental albums now.
Or just start pulling stuff from the vault and release it as new work. Nobody cares about your new stuff, Prince. You get points for trying not to repeat yourself, but at this point, you may as well just make Sign O The Times 2, be done with it and at least have an album worth listening to, if only for the momentary sentiment of familiar sounds. And don't be coy about it--no return to form, wink wink bs, just straight up announce your current material is offensive and you're retreating to the past cos it's all you've got, because believe me, it is. No hard feelings. |

I'm still waiting 4 any of U Prince hatin' everything he does now motherfuckers to release something to listen to. You can voice your opinions, but putting down others is ridiculous. Shows what pussies do! When you add one of your songs on here, and allow us to critique it, then you can tell other people they're stupid for liking what Prince has done lately.... until then, shut the fuck up and go listen to lady gaga!!! motherfuckers. |

That could work too, and that's what most fans want. But I think new instrumental albums would allow him to still create new work, but without the stress of trying to be a lyricist anymore. It's like he's struggling with lyrics now, so he might as well just create the music without voice, like he has done excellently in the past. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

I'll take it, thnx, but it's not gonna turn anyone on.

Oh Prince, where have you gone? The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp. |

The song is a fun song. It's not meant to stop a war. It's just meant to be a damn pop song, and it really good song. It reminds me more of "Cream" and that very straight forward beat with a catchy chorus.
Its far from catchy, it has no quality hook, its sterile shit. If any other artist released this it would be lambasted on here.
Hell whatever Prince releases in lambasted on here. |

O.K. listened to it 5 times now. I see even some of Prince's usual detractors have had a few good things to say about this song. I wish I did too. I think the problem with this as a single stand alone track it is just too simple to get excited about it. It's Prince in autodrive.
If this were part of an album that had some more original developed tunes, MAYBE I could think of it as a fun album track that I wouldn't skip every time I put the album on. MAYBE.
But as a standalone song, this is just utterly forgetable to me.
I'm not 12 years old and Prince is a musical God so I'm not going to say, "It sucks". But for me persionally it's just another one in a long line of tunes that any song writer could come up with in their sleep.
Definitely not feeling it.
Unfortunately I think I agree. It doesnt even really sound like him because of the multitracked duet vocals. Intro is overlong and really pretty lame. I do like the synth sounds though, and some witty wordplay gives it an extra half-star. Take it - like Clarence said:

It has that hanging at the beach with some friends and chilling vibe going on. Definitely something fresh and different from Prince. I like this one right off the bat. While the previous release 'Cause & Effect' had to grow on me and it has. This one will probably get a lot of play by me this summer.

Happy Birthday Prince!

When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming! |

Will everyone please get over "THE VAULT" already. Between all of us on the Org we have most of Prince's past output. If the past is that great then dig out 1999 & Purple Rain and jam to the outtakes and snippets of older unreleased tracks. If Prince released 'Witness' tomorrow I'd be like cool but it would be disposable to me because I've had the song for 20 some odd years already! Be grateful Prince still bothers to make music when he doesn't have to. He's not contracted to produce new material any longer so take the song for what it is, a gift. If you choose to stuff it in the hard drive and be done with it cool or you can put it on your iPod and enjoy it from time to time. Anyhow let's keep it real every orger with computer skills is downloading this track right now whether they love it or hate it. Is this "Anna Stesia," or "Mountains?" No! But it's not "Jughead," or "Wedding Feast," either. It's kind of like the poppy cousin of "Cause and Effect." Not a masterpiece, but what songs were other legends writing at 52? As great as Billy Joel was....his fans get one lame single for the last 18 years...and yes, that Joel song is sub par. |

Harsh, but at this point true.
These post-Lotusflow3r tracks have been SO below par, it's beyond plausability that even Prince himself can't see it. |

Terrible. This is the third go round "single". And nothing worth being proud of...So dissapointing. Is this what it's become. Really? So sad. And on his birthday nonetheless. (I know he doesn't celebrate it.)
Sounds like Foreigner "Hot Blooded" mixed with "Shake". |

Noooo, no no no. Honestly. I have no desire to do so. Nor did I download Cause & Affect, or the few tracks offered through the Lotusflow3r website. Truthfully, I don't think they're good enough to bother with. I'll just wait and pick up the new album when/if it's released so I can check out a handful of new tunes at once. If these tracks aren't on the album, then maybe I'll hunt them down.
I get your point, though. And I'm sure a lot of people are doing so. But I don't think the loyalty of his fanbase is quiet as crazed about the recent new material as we were back in the day (or even a few years ago).
In regards to what you said about the "Vault", which I actually meant to quote. I am still interested in getting batches of those songs properly mixed, mastered and released to us with the mans blessing. They will sound different than we've ever heard them before if that's done properly.
