I love that song it's beautiful and' honor ' but i show feeling in a different way. And you can help put cry because he put something in there about you. (i guess) So i would never 'disrespect'' song is Summer Song it's fun and i love it. Why i said pop because it sounded to me no disrespect. Now Prince has been playing some" pop music ' awhile back thats what i was referring to. I love you all but you all can be pills at times.

I think this song sucks... The lyrics are so bad, and the beats and hook don't go anywhere. I could write this song... "it's a hot, hot summer". I'm a genius! It all seems very awkward... and get rid of that female singer... it's almost as bad as "Chelsea Rogers." Prince is 0 for 3 in 2010.

Don't be too quick to draw any conclusions from these freebie tracks. The NPGMC tracks that were released before TRC were entirely different from what the album turned out to be. I realize not everyone on this site is crazy about TRC, but for many that was a very pleasant surprise back then. What he'd posted on the internet prior to that were absolutely of no indication of what was going to come next.
Those who do music themselves also know that you're not always going to pull off your best. Yet, in some cases it's just fun to let people hear that material anyway. The internet in particular is the perfect medium for that.
Let's also not refer to these songs as "singles". That's not what they are.

...and maybe Prince just liked this song, maybe he had fun writing and recording it, maybe it was effortless, maybe he had a big smile on his face once it was done.
I know this will not redeem the song for those who think it is the biggest steaming pile of doodoo he has ever recorded but I don't think Prince really does this to piss you off. He does it cos it makes him happy. [Edited 6/8/10 7:03am] Just somewhere in the middle,

I will just say this: For those who can hear a simple, light, fun, free-spirited, sunny gift of a song, and can't even allow themselves for a moment to experience an iota of pleasantness, that is very telling and revealing more so of one's own psychological and emotional well-being than it is of Prince's incompetency, as some have even dared to have the audacity to suggest. Insults have not deterred Prince yet, and they never will..never! For every 10 spiteful knockdowns, he has got 500 strong supporters pulling him up higher. So give it a rest; it's not working

so I tried to give this some time. Better production might help it. Right about at 2:20 it started to pick up then just dropped back to the lackluster feel throughout. I also read that people thought this was Janelle Monaé singing with him? I don't hear it. If anything he should listen to her record with an eye towards how he used to bring it. Cause she does. Once again I find it tough to hear a guy who is one of my musical heroes not "get" what it is that he used to do in terms of writing, playing and the energy he brought to a track. I still say get rid of the "yes" men and get a producer who you let do their thing. And it is true, I don't have to listen, but I wanted top give it a fair shake...and I think I did. And it's just not worth any more spins. |

Combine the opening of Cinnamon Girl, the beat from Shake!, add some stupid, contrived lyrics (hug and a pound, lol), and a terrible female vocal, and you have this "song". I wish I had millions of dollars so I could sit around and make "music" like Prince. Some additional lyrics and losing the female vocal could save the song, but I don't think it's worth it. I don't get how so many people keep saying "to give it a few listens" or "it will grow on you" about Prince's last few releases. Why can't it just be acceptable to say they suck? I have never in all my 27 years of being a Prince fan ever hated a song, then listened to it a bunch of times and decided I really did like it. If I heard a song, and it did something to my brain that was enjoyable, then I instantly liked it. End of story.
Why give any song "a chance?" They're not people or dogs or something else that I don't like at first and need getting ued to. My ears cannot bare to listen to any words that come out of Ke$ha's mouth, for example. Should I give her songs a chance too and purposely listen to them 30 times a day....just to get used to them?
I adore Prince. Heck, there was a time in my teen years, when I was sure that I would marry him someday!!!! That delusion has long since passed. I no longer thing that he has the Midas touch. He's human and isn't perfect.
Personally, I think that he is allowing himself to be spiritually torn between his musical talent and his religion. I'm sure that he knows what the JW faith does not want him to do, yet he wants so desperately to be spiritually right that he is drastically watering down what comes from him musically. Really he can balance both worlds if he would let go of his vanity. Acknowledge that the pop stardom days are over for him, and make a switch to more mature music. He can still channel his God-given talent into masterpieces, but he is fighting his own creativity and trying to "fit in."
Frankly, I'm embarrassed for him lately. Such rubbish coming from one of the most musically creative minds in the modern world! All the glamour photo shoots, the hair, the makeup. When is he going to grow up? It is very unattractive for a person to act, behave and try to look much, much younger than they really are. | |
