The Time 100 event was held at Lincoln Center in NYC. The jam (or as some referred to as an aftershow) was held after the Time 100 gala event, at a club in Manhattan, NY called the "Village Underground", which is part of another club. No the "house band" was not the NPG, it was the band scheduled to play at the Village Underground club that night. I have no idea what the name of that band is called.

The 3 singers Shelby J, Liz and Elisa, are the same singers that performed with Prince in Paris. "I will never be another fool" was sung by "Liz, and accompanied by Shelby J and Elisa, in which I found out from another orger here, is a "Chaka Khan" song from one of her latest albums. The house band performed with Prince when Prince got up on stage, and they backed up his singers, Shelby J, Liz and Elisa when they were on stage as well.

Yes the house band did some Prince songs, before they introduced Prince and his singers. He also spoke of his appreciation of Prince for his contribution to music, and was very excited and happy and announced that Prince "was in the house". The house band male singer did a snippet of "Kiss" and a sample of a few other Prince songs, when Prince and his singers weren't on stage, and I believe even after Prince left the stage.

Prince did play his guitar when Liz, accompanied by Shelby J and Elisa were singing "I will never be another fool", but he only stayed up there for about 4 or 5 minutes into that song, then he left the stage. Prince was not on stage after that "jazzy" instrumental you keep referring to was played, after the singers sang "I will never be another fool". That's my take from watching it online when it aired live from the Village Underground.

This man looks incredibly good. I think Prince the popstar is over and that is not at all a negative thing. Prince should be allowed to just exist and not prove. I understand that we all want our favourite artist to keep proving everything else to be crap but it can't be so. This man has nothing left to prove so let's celebrate that. He has essentially turned in to a musician and let him enjoy that. You, We, I can argue that Prince sees himself as more than this so should be judge but again I would argue that even Prince is a consumer of his past and present and he too should enjoy. Prince has contributed sooo much we and he should let it be.

Bless you Prince and stop trying so hard. You have done more than enough.

I I went to the Village Underground aftershow. First off it was not a 45 minute set, Prince was on stage for 2-3 songs at most. He has his back turned to the crowd ala a Miles Davis "F U People" attitute.. He is going bald, or got a really bad haircut.. Looked like a frail old man, needing help to get up on a 1 foot high stage.. Had huge bodyguard goons with him..

Ok do i sound bitter, not really as it was worth the $10 cover and trek down there, but what amazes me in such a small space, either the regular crowd didnt know he was in the house as everyone was on their freakin blackberries during the whole show until he got on stage..

Also the band seemed to be totally enjoying it as they are a house band, while with talent i doubt any of them will be breakout stars..

he played a red guitar that the house band was playing, but the lefty playing skinny white kid in the band was playing a fender Strat, blue, but it was strung lefty, probably would have been a better sound for Prince..

Also after he left the stage, he was up on his table in the VIP section, either laughing or crying inside as the house band singer did the lyrics to Ballad of Dorothy Parker while the band was playing something totally different.. strange moment..

Then the house band played Chocolate by the Time.. I was like WTF (Prince was gone at this point)..

Shelby J (go away please), and Morris Hayes also sat in with the house band was Prince was on stage. Oh the stage was so small 9 musicians, that the 2 drummers had their kits set up on the "dance floor"

It was cool to see, but considering the last time i saw prince he was with that talentless hack Tamar, i think the house band was an upgrade!!

Sounds like two incredibly lackluster shows. Sad.

Then Prince moved on to a small club later that night and was so whacked out that he didn't even know which direction to face. Prince was on two different stages twice in one night and it doesn't seem like we missed anything good at either one.
