Prince doesn't give away albums of unreleased music for free. Simple as. And if he had, it'd be edited, overdubbed and Starfish & Coffee/Dorothy Parker wouldn't be on there. Neither would Wonderful Ass come to that. Prince did not leak this, someone else did, and I am grateful that they did. *edited for dreadful spelling mistakes [Edited 3/16/10 8:02am] You cannot know that for sure. Again, hypothetically speaking, if he were to release it like this he wouldn't have to answer questions about it or read articles questioning "Why is he releasing this now" and "Is he releasing this now because he feels that his 80's material is better than his current material"...etc. This would be a great way to remind people of what a genius you are... Releasing music without officially releasing it. If you think that idea is far-fetched than you are being very close minded (I'm speaking to everyone). It would be very easy for him to do this if he wanted to. I have absolutely no insider knowledge or anything like that, just a hardcore music fan who is pointing out the obvious. I can reveal to you the percentage of involvement Prince has had with these recent releases. 0% That would mean that out of a possible 100% involvement, the actual percentage is 0. Zero means none, as in no involvement. Its like when someone could have done something, but didn't. In that case you would say "hey, he had nothing to do with that" and I would say "yes, he had zero involvement". Is that 0% rounded down? As in, he had 0.001% to do with it, but you're just rounding to 0% because you're part of the anti-conspiracy conspiracy?

Even Prince thinks this bootleg is twice as good as Purple And Gold. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Prince's whole career has been riddled with lies. I'm not saying he DID release this, but I'm not saying he didn't either. He could've had a source close to him release this as a way of testing the waters....to see if it was "warm enough" as it were...shall we begin? If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

I lost sleep listening to this last night, which made a day of jury duty mighty rough.
The theories of Prince's involvement in this are quite entertaining. I'm sure he is "less than happy" about this release. Prince wants control of his music, right? He just performed the All Day All Night concerts, do you really think he wants that track released for free? I think he has something planned for it to be released, most likely a re-recording ala In a Large Room With No Light. Then again, I'm just guessing. Wonderful Ass has Wendy and Lisa's involvement, and I'm sure that would be a little sketchy for him to release without their permission. There's no point in even mentioning the SOTT tracks really since WB owns the masters for those. They're not his to release...yet. I'm rambling here. I tend to do that. I find it surprising that Prince fans in this day and age would really think he'd make a business move like this. Yes, he has given away music for free, but it's always with a purpose, right? Musicology w/concerts, Planet Earth w/ UK paper (and major payday). He's always clearly behind his releases. Crystal Ball II could have been like this, but we would have a back-masked Wonderful A**. I bet the tracks would be mastered brittle and maxed out as well if they came from him. Again, I'm only guessing. I know nothing.

But if you recall, he put up "Large Room With No Light" basically for free around the time of the "All Day All Night" Paris concerts. You technically couldn't just download it but you could if you knew how to. And regarding what you said about "Wonderful Ass" & Wendy & Lisa.... Wouldn't this be a perfect way to release the song without officially releasing it and thus avoiding all the legalities. I'm getting the impression that the people behind the release are fans that are on here on the org, which is fine... So I guess Prince isn't behind this at all according to most people on here. My point is simply that the idea of him doing something like this is not that crazy, that's all. And once again I will point out that the Roadhouse Rehearsal footage is STILL up right now. What's up with that? Is it too crazy to think Prince leaked that as well? He could easily take it down if he wanted to but it's been up for over a month. Yes I could be wrong but the theory of Prince being behind SOME (not all) bootlegs is not that crazy at all.

Yes I could be wrong but the theory of Prince being behind SOME (not all) bootlegs is not that crazy at all. There are no "legalities": Prince needs no permission from anyone to release any material he ever recorded with any of his bands, he even has his musicians sign contracts about this and anyway W&L did not co-compose Wonderful Ass, they just remixed it. Keep in mind that Prince had Myspace take away the "Mia Bocca" video from Jill Jones' own profile because he considers it "his" song, and he legally had the right to do it even though she sings it. There's TONS of Prince these days and if it's not on it's on other similar websites including ones from Russia or China that are way outta reach for Prince's lawyers. Obviously Prince is letting things be cooler with lately because he just realizes that he CAN'T possibly prevent this. Besides, the rehearsal videos you're talking about WERE taken down on the next day their "release" was made public (i know because i tried to watch them and they were taken away), but they were reposted and reposted again and it just was too late to prevent it because many people have them by now. For crying out loud, even Lotusflow3r.com videos are on several video websites (and i'm not talking about the girl we aren't allowed to talk about) and there's just nothing Prince can do about it except taking a few videos down here & there... And YEAH, this rehearsal was already circulating anyway. As for the A6 video, yeah, so is the Madhouse film and the "18 & over" video, and no one suspected Prince when they leaked online a few years back. The BOC songs have a great quality for bootlegs, but just listen 2 "Crystal Ball" (the album) and u'll hear how they would sound if Prince had released them himself. I hardly understand why he would have them being released (again) on boots if it wasn't to have them sound crystal clear. I respect your theories but they go against every probability, against everything we know about Prince and against any common sense when Prince could easily sell several hundreds of thousands (if not billions if promoted properly) CD's or internet memberships if these songs were released officially. Forgive me if i'm wrong but i assume you haven't been a Prince fan for too many years, which might explain why you believe such things (no offense meant). Can't Boris come here and end this? I guess if HE says it at least people will believe him . [Edited 3/16/10 19:03pm] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Silly. The sound quality of the outtakes isn't equal to officially released material. You're being blind to the flaws. Prince wouldn't release something in this comparatively below-par quality. [Edited 3/16/10 19:52pm]

[Edited 3/14/10 14:53pm] 'Neon Telephone', 'In a Large Room with no Light' & 'Witness' are all out there in the same quality... you just have to search hard for them (and if you can get a friend with a home studio to re-master the recordings ... that helps). I respect your answer and no I'm not offended at all but just for the record, I've been a Prince fan since 1983 when I was 8 and I have everything he's officially released and tons of bootlegs, both audio & dvd. You make some good points and I guess this is just one instance where I was looking at things differently than most people on here. I'm a fan of a few other artist who do release a lot of things online for free and maybe I've grown out of touch with the way Prince handles his business and have not been looking at things from the same p.o.v. that alot of you are but you make a good case. Edit: Regarding the Wendy & Lisa and Wonderful Ass thing... I was just going by what the previous poster mentioned. I thought it was solely a Prince song myself. And regarding Boris, I don't really fully know who he is exactly but yes, he does seem to have the definitive answer to all Prince related questions so if he does post on here that would pretty much end any debate. There is no debate.
Prince did not release this. No matter how much you wish and how many times you post untrue theories, the simple FACT remains...Prince did not release this. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

The fuss is over the sound quality - not the tracks, themselves. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
