having a classic like "Wonderful Ass" in this kind of quality is unprecedented. i didn't think i'd ever hear it like this. i know Prince won't release it because of the word "Ass." and i aint checkin for "Wonderful Butt."

eek eek eek eek

My copy of these songs were so crappy that this is like hearing them for the first time! Not to start any mess, but this plus Lotusflow3r would have made for a perfect album.
Who ever said Prince has lost it - has lost it. The Kid's still got game!

This is great but I have a version of Data Bank in great quality that starts off with... One Two Buckle my shoe... and goes beyond the fade point of the version on BOC. Nevertheless I'm happy that this is out.

The set is amazing, the best boot in years, the sound is just top notch.

The sound is so good you can mix the songs in with released stuff and it doesn't sound out of place.

I made cool Revolution era playlist.

All Day All Night
17 Days
Wonderful Ass
Shortberry Straw Cake
Irresistible Bitch

can I ask anyone how it has been possible to have 'Wonderful Ass' in such incredible quality. i mean, this really does sound like studio release quality. Words fail me -technically how on earth has this been possible?? cool

Chimming in again, yes this set is great, but I also have to say that I also have a cleaner version of We Can Funk that also goes a little after the fade. I'm sure some people have this version along with the DataBank I mention before with the longer beginning.

I must say that Witness and Wonderful Ass are the best I have out of all my boot collections.

Also someone mentioned All Day, All Night with the crowd noise, well I think I figured it out. The talking with Prince saying Wendy wants to live forever is from the 1984 26th birthday concert because you can hear the same distinct whistle in both versions of the song. However, Prince must have splice that intro into his studio version of what we hear, with the Shockalackas and such. If you have both versions, listen to the beginning and you'll hear what I'm talking about.

As Ernest mentioned, why Ballad and Starfish are included is because they are slightly different in their speed and tempo. Now this may be just the bootleggers fault or it could be that Prince slowed them down on the final version which we hear on SOTT.

I still like the Dream Factory version of Witness better, i LOVE data bank with the banter with the band at the end, classic. i think i may edit out the talking at the end of movie star seeing as it's also at the begining of A Place In Heaven.

Hey VC haven't heard from you since the HQ days how's it going? So you must have the versions I'm talking about. The We Can Funk I have is so clear that it sounds like it's in surround and DataBank is also much clearer vocally. Now if those versions were on this collection it would shut it down for awhile in terms of clarity.

The version of We Can Funk you has the main vocal much louder than the rest of the music.

Therefore it sounds like some kind of test mix, thats why I would say this new version is the definitive version.

And the data bank version is similar, the songs tempo is slower with a the main vocal mixed upfront.

Again I think the new versions are the best and nearset to what would have been released.

Good idea to go back to the old boots and rework them with high grade versions.

I always love those old boots, Crucial, Charade, Purple Underground.

Choclate box was one of my first boots, I had it on tape summer of 1990, thats when I started to get hardcore, I even missed the England world Cup quarter final because I had Prince tickets.

I still have my vinyl copy of Chocolate Box. Terrible quality, but it had those clandestine tracks on it - it didn't say "Prince" on it anywhere. It was the second boot I purchased after The Black Album on vinyl.

I still have this one, too. It was one of my first outtake boots. So nice to have it now is so clear a quality!! biggrin

Number23

I never realised there was a harmonica on Girl O My Dreams. I can also hear Suzanna's backing vocals very high up in Starfish too - is that just because the SOTT CD is such shitty quality or is this an older mix? Amazing release, well done and cheers to everyone involved. The minimal effort it would take for Prince to compile something like this and throw it on Lotusflow3r is deeply frustrating for everyone who is digging the shit out of this just now. Maybe he has plans for everything he's ever recorded to go online in pristine quality the second he dies as a parting goodbye gift or something. I think he was referrig to something like this in Lion Of Judah. Hope I outlive the bastard if that's the case.

I remember having a tape from a trader in the early days that had Joy In Repetition on it with the long drum intro and damn if it wasn't better than what was on the GB cd. It was so clear that you could hear clearly what Prince was saying during the guitar solo. Unfortunately, the tape got chewed up and it was a very, very low generation tape. Sometime you don't realize what you have until it's gone. Wished I had a cd burner in those days. I talking around 89-89!

We can Funk
All Day, All Night
Data Bank
Witness 4 the Prosecution
Wonderful Ass

Been listening in that order most of the day!!! Can't get enough. Incredible release. That last 2 minutes of Data Bank, just pure funk. And this version of "We Can Funk" was my very first Prince bootleg, always have liked it much more than the official release. Just incredible sound. Don't know who the tech genius was who did this but THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
