My only criticism? I can't pop into town and buy it. I really hate downloads and streams. I like to buy things and be able to hold them. Does no one realise the value this places on items anymore?

True, but the recycle bin and Princes frequent visits there are far more kind to the Planet than Prince sitting in the store bargain-bin forevermore.

wanna know what my new joyce-like obsession is?

his name is neil dick, he comes into my bar for karoake once a month. he wrote an album, and it is FANTASTIC in a joyce way.

https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/neildick

red sauce is my favorite. it's about chinese take-out sweet and sour. "it's a small world" about how he went to high school with the lead singer of three dog night (and who most of the linear notes are about) comes a close second.

boring? 1. The "I am here" laugh is beautiful and throaty... a wonderful Prince moment. 2. The rockabilly guitar - horny toad/pony etc... is a joy. 3. The lyrics are a bit shit... but interesting if only because they make you want to scream at Prince that he should nhave just stayed being superstar and wondering whether his funk was half assed... it was more interesting back then. 4. The keyboard is superbly Prince. 5. The 'ladies and gentlemen' keeps making me think of Public Enemy and that is always a good thing. 6. The rhythm guitar/acoustic guitar is beautiful. 7. Oh god those lyrics are pretty awful... block them out... 8. Clunky guitar at the 3:30 mark, I'll grant you... but it does recover. 9. I love Prince actually soloing on guitar... I wish he'd pick his base back up. 10. The Owww-oo-waa is shit. 11. The guitar soloing is very entertaining. 12. It feels like three songs cut and paste together... I wonder what they sound like in their origina

The drums r f`n sick. I`d really like to find out who`s on`m

I guessed Michael B at first but the more I listen, I think its Cora. Whoever it is is a damn g 'cause like u said, the drums are f'n sick!!!!

I think your POV is that it doesn't matter so much how good the guitar or drums are, that the Cross had simple drums & guitar but was a good song.

Sometimes that's all you can do. shrug I was trying to throw some humor in to break the ice. I mean, who would have thought asking opinions of a song would cause this effect? giggle (j/k)

It kinda makes you wish that people would learn the difference between having an opinion and being opinionated. Or how to disagree without being disagreeable. lol

Exactly. Take Wall of Berlin for example. The calm part does not match the jam session but what makes that song a great song is how natural that transition is. It is surprising on first listen but it isn't forced. It's just good playing and a (once you've heard it) logical extension of the calmer part of the song.

There is no sense of adventure in this track. ZERO.

This is just theatrics for the sake of it. Dressing up Marilyn Monroe's corpse in that white dress does not make her the comback queen lol

Well, with any music the end result is fairly simple. In deconstructing all the song's particularities, all one has to do is ask whether or not the song resonates inside them. Does it pass its mood onto the listener? Does it remain inside one's mind?

The answer with Cause and Effect for me is no. It's that simple. Whatever the reasons may be, and there are probably many, Cause and Effect has a very weak effect on me and falls dead.

Here's hoping for better things.
