ppl - this is boring AND annoying and it's all so simple:
Those who don't like the song, please try not to be rude and denigrate P himself (at least not too much lol ).
Those who do like the song or don't like people saying they don't like it ( lol ), please be tolerant and avoid at all costs attacking the people who are expressing their opinions even if you don't like the way they are doing it.

Personally, I find that the most offensive posts are those where people attack other posters (e.g. telling them that they should get off the site, know nothing, are blind followers or whatever). Dissing Prince might be annoying, but this is a "forum" where people talk to one another so the most important thing is to respect the people who are with you here in the discussion.

boring?

1. The "I am here" laugh is beautiful and throaty... a wonderful Prince moment.
2. The rockabilly guitar - horny toad/pony etc... is a joy.
3. The lyrics are a bit shit... but interesting if only because they make you want to scream at Prince that he should nhave just stayed being superstar and wondering whether his funk was half assed... it was more interesting back then.
4. The keyboard is superbly Prince.
5. The 'ladies and gentlemen' keeps making me think of Public Enemy and that is always a good thing.
6. The rhythm guitar/acoustic guitar is beautiful.
7. Oh god those lyrics are pretty awful... block them out...
8. Clunky guitar at the 3:30 mark, I'll grant you... but it does recover.
9. I love Prince actually soloing on guitar... I wish he'd pick his base back up.
10. The Owww-oo-waa is shit.
11. The guitar soloing is very entertaining.
12. It feels like three songs cut and paste together... I wonder what they sound like in their original form...

... and that's just whilst listening to it... not boring at all. wink

wow. This sounds like cuts from other works. The rainbow children (family name) comes to mind. I'd rather have him putting out albums like the rainbow children than this current crop of stuff. Bring back xpectation... anything... this is a bad direction. Coupled with that football song, i'm like shocked....

I suppose this is what happens to prolific writers. They write a ton of music and one song will be brilliant, but the other 10 you have to force yourself to listen to. I haven't heard a brilliant song in a long while.

idk. eventually I think he will put something out that will inspire us like so much of his previous work used to. I'll always be a fan, but this... no.

I didn't like it when the thread on "what other songs does cause & effect remind you of" -thread was removed. I thought it would have been interesting to just read people's impressions on what the song reminds them of, without simply posting them here.

It sounds to me like a mix of "Play In The Sunshine", "Rock Roll Is Alive", and "The Song Of The Heart"... or something.

I can definitely hear the "Play In The Sunshine" -influence here, which I can connect with. That's one of the problems too. I associate certain elements of the song to his past works and enjoy those aspects, instead of simply enjoying the song for what it is. "Planet Earth" has the same problem, but I think the songs there are of higher quality melodically. This song could have fitted "Planet Earth" stylistically, though.

Cause & Effect is not a bad song but i'm arrived to the conclusion that I'm no more interested in new music by Prince long ago.
Prince is dead in terms of creativity & music Art.
Prince is a looser, he is unable to agree with Warner Brother for the release of its Remasters + bonus ,he is a bad business man, Prince has become a caricature of himself.
My only wish is to see out the outtakes of his vault, even an outtake of medium quality from the great Princely period will always be better than any songs to come out or since the last 15 years!!

Just love how some folks around here are judge and jury when it comes to P's career and music. Sheesh.
It's very simple,if you don't like his new songs/albums fine. Don't have too. Everyone is entilted to their opinions. As it should be. I'm just tired of this blatant trashing of every aspect of him because of it. It moves you or it doesn't. Fine. Say so and move on. No need to get so vindictive, mean and personal because you don't like it. Just saying.

lol I'm still waiting for some of these self-proclaimed music critics to show us their grammys and tons of music awards. Imagine thinking you have the power to tell an artist to stop creating or performing music, just because you don't like some of their songs. lol Let's just hope these same folks don't tell their wives/husbands/kids that they're washed up and to call it quits, when they don't live up to their expectations.

It's funny because some of them will suggest Prince should retire, when I bet they can't afford to make that choice on a whim themselves. lol

If anyone asks me why I like Prince I will point them in the direction of this thread.

Surely no other artist is discussed with so much passion, in this way!!

I love that we all care so passionately about his music to write something here!

Yes I remember how The Rainbow Children was described as "controversial" right on the label on the cd.

It turned out it was very controversial, the biggest rift between fans being whether or not you could accept the darth vadar voice.

It stays awful. Here's the thing, a lot of us aren't tricked anymore by a little guitar work. Unusual songs like Joint 2 Joint worked because there was some real shit goin on. this is a total mess, all the way around and a little guitar shrieks doesn't make up for the weak link that is the rest of the track.

I don't see how guitar is going to trick people, either. Either it's good or not. Even if the song sucks and the guitar is good, that is not a trick.

I hope that he scrolls throug some reactions on the net. Redoes the arrangements, and make a killer rocker out of it instead, and puts it on his next album : "F.I.N.A.L.Y." Short for "Full Inspiration Now Allowed Loose Ya"(imagined dreamsenario not real (yet)) who becomes the standard for future Rock albums like Purple Rain was.

My judging:

I dislike pop arrangements when it get mixed with something that could be a classic rocker like "dreamer".

But I like the rock elements, and love it when it takes off towards the end. Massive changes in the appearance of the song, and making it more progressive... is brilliant smile

I guess the live version opens up for some serious guitar hero actions :p

I never said the song was shit so save that for someone who did.

The solution would be for both sides to let people have their opinions without taking digs at the other side. You got personal. There is no need for that.

why did i get personal to you

The lyrics. WTF? Boring and old. We know he isn't beholden to any of us, we've known this for how long now? Would be nice to hear something new.

There is no cohesion, totally disjointed. The lyrical and musical progression does not match the guitar theatrics. It doesn't feel natural but forced.

the fake live feel and harkening to the past. Seems to be one of the biggest sticking points of his famatics and yet he can't help himself. If he's moved/moving on why not truly move forward?

Is it a country song or rock. It doesn't know what it wants to be.

total plastic. If he's gonna do some studio wizardry, bring on the magic.

You enjoy it, I don't. I think it's a total mess and you're free to believe otherwise lol
