Rainbow Children is effin' weird Is it me, or is this just an unconventional album? I seriously can't listen to just one song because it sounds imcomplete. Everytime I listen to do I have to do it from start to finish, with the exception of Last December. Anyone else feel this way? Are you ready for Jehovah's return? Cuz if you not *holds up TRC*

I hate it from front to back. Absolutely loathe it. I'd rather listen to Graffiti Bridge backwards, than TRC at all.

This seems to be a very polarizing album; people either love it or hate it. Personally, it is my least favorite Prince album. I abdicated the throne in Ithaca, but now I am...

On some of the promo material for The Rainbow Children it says "This recording was intended 2 b xperienced in its entirety" Though I do not agree with the whole JW thing I do think this is an AMAZING cd-LOVE IT!!!

This album defines P state of mind at the time, he was consumed with the JW faith, history and race at the time. It's 1 of my favorite albums. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I love Rainbow Children!!
He really struck a chord with me around that time. The whole TRC, ONA, NEWS, Expectation era is probably one of my favourite musical periods after the 80's. Some people are like Slinkies...
They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

If you could strip this album of the vocals, it would probably be worthy of the top 10. • Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

No song on this album would be in my top 50, yet the album is one of my favorites. I very rarely pick a random song, and listen to it. I have to be in the right mood, but typically listen to the album in full. He is exactly who we thought he was

This is definitely my least favourite album. I agree that it's a bit weird
All that slurred, deep voice talking just gets in the way of the music IMO. I absolutely hate when I have my Prince music on shuffle (usually while i'm dancing and singing along!) and that bloody 'voice' stuff starts blaring thru my headphones. I just want the music!

It's the only time this whole JW thing has ever felt genuine to me and as much as I despise that religion for the way it warps minds, I can totally accept the premise of the album based on genuineness alone 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Well, if you're lookin' for hits, stay away from this album.
It's one of Prince's most inspired and creative albums to date, it's a concept album that is made to be listened to from start to finish. It's bad ass, it's different than anything he's ever done. It's got a cult feeling about it, very underground. Could this be anymore a true Prince record? What was your complaints? [Edited 4/30/09 17:03pm] ..."holding someone is truly believing"

You know I didn't like anything about Rainbow Children upon first listen. Or the second. Third. Fourth. Fifth. You get the idea.
There were other P albums that I was not fond of, but none that I completely disliked everything about the first time I heard it. As corny as it may sound, something kept compelling me to give it another try. It wasn't a case of trying to force myself to like it or accept it, but rather an urge to listen to it again. It wasn't until a couple of years later that I realized "hey I love this fuckin' album". Maybe it just grew on me like a fungus. I don't know. But it has grown to become one of my favorites, and I never get bored with it. And no, the Darth Vader voice doesn't bother me. Not anymore than it does on "All My Dreams". And I like Star Wars. He is exactly who we thought he was

Im learning more and more that the dislike is because of the "preaching" and people dont like Prince preaching about things they dont wanna hear. Though the man has PREACHED since day one in songs, peeps cant just let it go. TRC musically is Prince at the top of his game, and BEST BAND LINEUP ever, furthermore, Prince knows that was the best he had. Its funny that people knock certain things and YET Lotus Flower's opening is almost indentical to the feel of TRC's beginning, clearly showing Prince's looking back, and where he felt his best musically. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Personally, I love the music, but couldn't be more against the spiritual aspects of the overall message of the album. I don't share one iota of Prince's beliefs, but that has never prevented me from enjoying his music with spiritual lyrics. I think it's really interesting how he has always explored the issues of sex & spiritually and love & lust with his music. It could definitely be argued that his best work comes from his struggles related to faith.

Forget the preaching, the voice, the supposed anti-semitic lyrical content,..... there is good cheese, ABBA and bad cheese, this is bad cheese.
You could have the worlds greatest musicians play ABBA and it would still be cheese. Same applies here. Brainwashing yourself to like it does not count.
