This probably doesn't need to be said...

but I'm going to say it anyway.

I am SO SICK of hearing the phrase, "stuck in the past"

Are people who dig Shakespear "stuck in the past"?

Mozart?

Da Vinci?

Monet?

Get my drift?

Good is good no matter how old it is.

Now, to bring this around to the PM&M forum...

Name (almost lol ) any one of Prince's songs done at any time in the first 10-ish years of his career, we all have at least half a dozen, that we feel are his best work. They will stick with us, move us, make us smile until our dying day.

Does not make you "stuck in the past".

SOME of us feel that Prince has produced work beyond that point that leaves the same can't-be-beat feeling and SOME decidedly don't.

Does not make them "stuck in the past".

Being "stuck in the past" means you've worn the same hair style for 25 years.

You still carry a cell phone the size of a brick.

You wear platform shoes with gold fish in the heel.

Preferring "Early" Prince vs "Current" Prince is just a preference.

For those that do, something...be it whatever it is...just does not move you as it did.

I'm all for retiring of the phrase "stuck in the past" in this forum.

twocents Carry on.

Actually we are stuck in the past because ever since the prince.org was invented (thka ya Mr. Al Gore, he invented this place too ya know), each Prince release, we have the same type of threads/arguments/opinions.

We are going in circles or are in a vicious purple cycle and nobody will blink or flinch for fear of losing some pride.

Oh, this is RELATED to "The Argument", but this is just as much about me being sick of seeing the phrase "stuck in the past"

giggle

It must now be referred to in posts as "the phrase that must not be spoken"

So let it be written...

Preferring old Prince to new Prince isn't being stuck in the past.

It's called having actual good taste in music as opposed to swallowing whatever garbage he puts out.

You still wear underwear that say's Monday, Tuesday....

Loving, "For You," from 1978 is sentimental and still deeply appreciated when played today, just like "LOTUSFLOW3R," will be appreciated in 2033 when I have silver hair that I'm tinting lavendar..wearing a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me and running my stick along public railings. cool

Join the club because I'm already sick of the phrase "no more candy 4 u" and it's only been a month or so. lol

Personally I've liked about 80 to 85 percent of Prince's material at any given time for the past 28 years. Not really concerned what others think of my preferences. If some people prefer his past work more, that's fine by me.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I think it's in a Kennen Ivory Wayans movie. Maybe "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka", but not sure.

I guess I am one who's "stuck in the past".. lol

I think the Warner years were excellent, 1978-1995...

Prince's albums 1996-2009 have been disappointing.

Where's the "free artist" with his great output ???

sad

When this phrase is used, it's implying something more than just what your preference is.

Some believe that people have already judged a Prince release, his now output, before it's even been heard. The suggestion behind "stuck in the past" is that those who consistently slate his new work do so simply because it's new, and they've decided that new Prince will never reach the heights of old.

I can see in some instances why that's the case.

The very nature of messageboards is debate and difference of opinion. It's when people take that too seriously that you have problems. That happens far too often in here, in my humble opinion.....
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?
