THAT's the Prince i'd been waiting to hear for a LONG time. I even give Lotusflow3r a nudge over my beloved Rainbow Children because the subject matter isn't so heavy. I'll admit i haven't listened to Bria's disc yet because i didn't want to ruin the high i got from listening to the Prince discs. YES, for now i'm carrying my P torch once again. There is something wrong with that chart. Chris Cornell: Scream ain't on it and that's the best CD so far this year.

Oh well, it's still impressive for an album to debut at number 2 for an independent artist. Does that mean he may have the number one r&b album? [Edited 4/8/09 6:48am] just checked, its #1 on R&B Album chart

from the Billboard Article:
Prince's 2003 set "Musicology" started at No. 3 with 191,000; 2006's "3121" began at No. 1 with 183,000 and 2007's "Planet Earth" entered at No. 3 with 96,000. Very healthy numbers for Lotusflow3r considering the decline in overall CD sales. Lotusflow3r outsold Planet Earth by a wide margin, and almost matched Musicology and 3121. Very impressive, indeed. * * *

Keith Urban?! oh u'v got 2 b kidding me! This so depressing
Not even with Prince sellling his album at a crimminally low price...eye'm very dissapointed in what people buy these days.

Prince is not concerned about the charts and has not been for a while. If you included how many people bought from the website that may have been the difference. I say congrats Prince! I love the music! Love God and I shall 4ever Love u

That's possible. Of course, a lot of those people may have bought the retail anyway just to get C&C, the packaging, and to be "supportive". Also, the flip side to this is that he sold two ablums for $12 (I consider Bria a freebee so I'm excluding that). If this was a single album being sold for full retail price, I'm not sure sales would have been as good. Yes, being only at Target counters this as well, but I think the reduced price had a positive effect on sales. I was not willing to pay retail cost to get Musicology or 3121 or PE, but I was willing to pay $12 for this set. If the price had been $25 or $30, I'd have probably just skipped getting it. Even though I'm a little dissappointed. Its still a good showing since it was only sold at Target. A lot of cities don't have Target. Plus the margin wasn't that big by only 3000. So actually Prince did beat Urban. Because he sold at one retail and still got a good amount of sells. So Prince still is the winner.... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

Number 2? Doh!!!
Well, it's still very impressive for Prince to debut at #2 with little promotion and only using Target as his distributor. I just hope this doesn't discourage Prince from touring with this 3 cd set - that's what most worries me because he can loose interest in a project with the quickness (including everything that goes along with it) if it doesn't live up to his expectations. If you're listening Prince, PLEASE TOUR THIS 3 CD SET!!! It's what most of us fans have been waiting for!! follow me on twitter - Lovenharmony1 aka @DAPfan2c

from the Billboard article:
Meanwhile, Prince's Target-exclusive "LotusFlow3r" (NPG) album arrives close behind at No. 2 with 168,000, giving the artist his 14th top 10 set. The triple-disc indie effort carries an economical $11.98 price tag and includes an album from Prince protege Bria Valente. Prince's 2003 set "Musicology" started at No. 3 with 191,000; 2006's "3121" began at No. 1 with 183,000 and 2007's "Planet Earth" entered at No. 3 with 96,000. The figure was not final. Billboard and Hits Daily Double have just confirmed that Prince is No.1 with 100% reporting.
The Soundscan figure was at 86% reporting. So it is good news afterall.

You've been one of the most vocal about hating Prince's stuff post-TRC or his actions and calling him a has-been and then ripping members who actually liked that stuff or something involving us "blindly" digging what Prince does. That's why you got the reactions you've gotten in the past and today. It really is shocking. I may be off on some of this but that's the gist of that. It's all good though, glad we are on the same page with these CD's. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

The Soundscan figure was at 86% reporting. So it is good news afterall. It doesn't work like that. Soundscan doesn't post partial numbers. No arrogance or offence meant, but given that I broke the Jackson Tour and the Prince 21 Nights tour news weeks in advance, which should lead you to conclude that I am in a rare information chain, I wouldn't doubt my understanding of how it works.

Pretty sure ButterscotchPimp works (or used to work) for EMI, so I'd consider his word to be pretty credible as well. Not that yours isn't, though.
