if you're going to go down this road then prince's #1 albums are also suspect.

Just you wait.

He'll have dr. marionberry throw some lame shit out about how he was robbed, and all the TRUE funk soldiers ( falloff ) should rally 'round the purple temple.

In Los Angeles.

For an additional $7.

they've basically already done that. check the site.

Then why is this thread up to 76 replys?.....lol

because for obvious reasons prince scoring a #1 independent of record labels would be big/great news for prince and prince fans alike.

it's not that the charts matter in terms of enjoying the music, but the impact of his new releases definitely has an affect on how he chooses to proceed in the future.

chart success or chart failure also help define his options if he chooses to work with a label again. being able to point to a recent #1 gives him more bargaining power, regardless of the crooked nature of the charts.

it's a complex game!

The reality is.....none of what u said will be determined by 1 week of sales.

This hype over 1st week sales is a waste of time.
The real question is:
Do U like the material?
Does the public know that it is available?
Do they have access 2 buy it?
Are they interested in the material?

Wow. I think the real question is:
Is this after you learned he didn't make it to number one?
Because;
No.
Maybe.
Prolly not considering a large contingent of his loyal fanbase isn't even interested.

I was just going to say, you have GOT to be kidding me.
After the stunt he pulled with Musicology, you're complaining?

It's not a CONSPIRACY people!
It was only sold at Target!
The album is still great!

I think it is a great success. Prince´s music has never been catchy enough for charts, I guess, to be number one. Before I got into Prince, I really did not get his music and rarely liked his songs from the beginning. You have to listen to them more times before they grow on you.

This is true and not true. Some stuff is incredibly catchy, but you're right much of it is too challenging for most pop audiences. I know Parade & Lovesexy took me a while to love.

It didn't until there was the possibility that Prince would chart at #1, then of course, it mattered. Now that he hasn't, of course, it no longer matters again. Unless, of course, there is some way to count in 3001 of his online sales, which would make him #1. Then, of course, it would matter again. But I don't see that happening, so as it stands, at this very moment, it doesn't really matter, of course. mr.green

This success of this record has a lot more 2 with Prince doing things on his own terms than 1st week sales.

Just my 2 pennies.

Even though charts mean nothing, its very impressive to be at number 2 - well done Prince!

Yeah, it's really close too. Considering that the CD's are being sold through one distribution channel (not including the website) that's very impressive. Urban's CD is available everywhere.

The real success is seeing how this CD does from this point out. Can it stay on the top 10 or even top 20 next weekend? What is Prince going to do promotionwise with this CD? This is going to be very interesting.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

2nd place in the charts for an independent artist -one many people were prepared to write off completely, natch -is definitely respectable. Bravo, lil lady. clapping
