I am one of those who likes this CD but does not love it and that is OK. As far as the charts go, 3121 was released and when to #1 the first week but like this CD, without the energy of a decent single, watch the free fall begin. My desire for a decent single or two will be to increase the energy about a tour that will have some new stuff being played that the masses will also be into and not just us die hards. | |

Lack of promotion.... really? Really? I can't remember the last Prince album that had commercials for it airing in prime time in front of 15-25 million people during the hottest shows of the season. |

Most new releases by known artists debut high and then rapidly fall unless there's some hit singles on them, and there will be no hit singles played on the radio from this CD. SoundScan numbers are only for units SOLD not units SHIPPED as it used to be back in the day. Also, Target will able to return all unsold units for credit. Since the end-cap displays were part of the agreement, no doubt the product in those displays was provided either on a "only pay for what you sell" or "return what you have not sold after x-number of days for credit" basis. Not sure the exact details of Prince's distribution deal with Target but traditionally CDs are one of the few products that retail outlets are not stuck with if they can't sell them. | |
