I was hoping that all the vids we cat and mouse searching the net for would have been in one nice place on his website. I mean we can still find them and watch them, why doesnt he do himself and us a favor and have them on his site. I'm not a MJ fan, but when/if his album gets released later this year it will be massive compared to this. And his O2 run as well. And it has nothing to do with talent or quality of the work, just with how they treat their fans. [Edited 4/4/09 10:27am]

It shows that enough people made the trip to Target to put Prince at the (perhaps almost) number one spot on the charts. Not bad!
With its $12 for 3 CD's pricetag and brightly colored papersleeve packaging. lotusflow3r is priced and packaged to ship. I haven't had the opportunity to visit a Target store, but I guess that they are positioning it as an impulse buy; some vertical display that suggests "volume" (lots of them) and "good value for money", positioned at highly trafficed paths, likely near cash registers. This distribution model of bundling music with another purchase is fundamentally similar to what we've seen in the Musicology, Planet Earth and perhaps that photobook CD bundling. It's therefor too early to conclude that everyone who purchased the CD's in week 1 made the trip to Target specifically for it. In the coming weeks, assuming fans in the loop have bought their copies already, we'll be able to see how well this version of the bundled music purchase concept works. I had to drive an hour to get to a target store..so i got 2 lol i luv the lil purple man pr!nce u rock

I dont understand why there wasnt more mainstream media promotion.
He would have done laps around Urban easy but since there was no culture awareness it seems hes having to run to catch up Regardless, I think its fantastic after so long and without mainstream marketing to get to number 2. *cheers*

"Number 1? Bria Valente & Prince Make An Interesting Bet Posted in Celebrity News, Entertainment, Music on April 4th, 2009 by drfunkenberry We just received word* that Bria Valente and Prince have a gentlewoman’s bet going on in need of resolution…. Despite the discriminatory practices of the music industry with regards to Prince for the past decade or so, Ms Valente has ALWAYS believed that their CD would enter the Billboard chart at NUMERO UNO. Extremely high hopes for a BRAND NEW ARTIST like herself but early calculations show she may indeed get her wish! This is where it gets interesting, everyone…. IF the CD does debut there, Prince has promised her a bash to end all bashes at a location of her choice. I am gonna say this, our spies will not rest until we find out what Prince gets if Bria loses the bet. I know this male mind short-circuits at the mere thought of the FINAL outcome! We will keep you posted!-Dr.FB *(Perhaps from a no-name reporter)" "My God it's full of Stars"

So I guess we'll have to see how it goes down on the charts next week? Will it be Prince/ Bria or Keithy? Only the charts will know...we shall see. [Edited 4/4/09 13:49pm]

(April 3, 2009) *Prince's new album "LotusFlow3r" is set for a first place showdown with the latest effort from country star Keith Urban when both artists make their debuts next week on the Billboard 200. According to Billboard.com, each singer appears positioned to move some 150,000 copies. Industry prognosticators suggest Urban's "Defying Gravity" (Capitol Nashville) may shift somewhere in the range of 150,000-160,000 in its first week, while Prince's Target-exclusive "LotusFlow3r" (NPG) could sell between 140,000-150,000. If Prince wins the battle for No. 1, it'll be the fifth chart-topping album of his career. Prince and Urban respectively lead Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart, which was released on April 1. As posted on EURWeb.com Either way. Prince has already won. Remember that the majority of United States is country. Country always sells over pop and what not! For Prince's sales to even be that close. He's already Won. Nuff said.

But I was there again mid-week, and they had racks of them positioned at the front cash registers and a big floor vinyl cling positioned in front of the racks --- given the price, I am sure that they can move a lot with that kind of placement.

I was photographing a Kenny Chesney concert and keith was the opener. HE IS AN AMAZING GUITARIST!!! I love Prince and he is my fav. BUT TRUST KEITH CAN PLAY and his band is amazing! If you Ever get a chance to see him you should. youtube his live stuff. HE IS GREAT!!!! free yo mind!

I agree, with the limited places folks can get the new Prince cd vs Urban's. Prince, will come at #2, which is not a bad thing.
I dont know why he kept iTues out of the loop and why he did not pull a 3121, buy putting x-number membership passes (to becoming a member) in the cd. With radio not supporting him like they use to he needs to make a greater buzz in getting folks (new and old fans) hyped-up in getting the CD. I was @ the Traget in Burbank CA the other day and they have a nice display at the main check out stand on the first floor, with a cool floor matt, of the cd cover and one on the 3rd floor in the cd section. Its in plain sight, for all to see. U'd have to be blind as a bat not to notice it. In any case PRN has said it B4, charts mean nothing (2 him). IMO, any CD placing in the top 20 (even top 40) is a success. I think chart success is more of an ego booster 4 us fans, then for him.

When he has a hit on his hands, suddenly the charts do matter! Remember that NPGMC msg when 3121 charted at #1? I do. Incidentally, Prince had a 2-day lead on Urban because 'Lotusflow3r' debuted on a Sunday. [Edited 4/4/09 23:00pm]

OK, so Prince might have another #1 in the US. Cool.
So how's the album doing in other countries? Hang on, that's right, there's no official release outside the US. Oh, I remember now, every fan outside of the States is STILL waiting to be ripped off my some middleman importer. Go Prince.
