billboard update
Black Eyed Peas On Course For First Hot 100 No. 1 April 03, 2009 - Retail By Keith Caulfield, L.A. The Black Eyed Peas' new single, "Boom Boom Pow" (will.i.am/Interscope), will make a big boom on next week's singles charts. Interscope is projecting the song, released on March 31, will sell more than 400,000 downloads in its first week, enabling a debut high atop the Hot Digital Songs chart. That sum will likely propel the single to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the act its first chart-topper. The group has charted nine singles on the tally, including "Boom," but has only gone as high as No. 3 (with both "Don't Phunk With My Heart" and "My Humps"). This week, "Boom" is at No. 39 on the Hot 100 based solely on its strong out-of-the-gate airplay. Meanwhile, Keith Urban and Prince are both still in the hunt for a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry prognosticators suggest Urban's "Defying Gravity" (Capitol Nashville) could sell between 170,000-180,000, while Prince's Target-exclusive "LotusFlow3r" (NPG) may shift in the range of 160,000-170,000. Those projections have grown since April 1, when the Urban album was forecast to move 150,000-160,000, while Prince was in the range of 140,000-150,000. The new Billboard Hot 100 chart will be unveiled on April 9, while the new Billboard 200 albums chart will hit Billboard.com on April 8. [Edited 4/3/09 20:51pm]

he better, I just went to target again today and bought 4 more copies. Now I have ten LOL. I know I know I know, but it's a good deal. And if it's a target exclusive, in a few years that album will be hard to track down and be hard to find (except web of course). And will there be a time when itunes will be able to sell it? I wish I would of bought more than one copy of The gold Exp. since it's OOP now. Now to get new from the web is a ridiculous price. So i'm going to buy more copies of the prince cd's in his catalog that i already don't have multiple copies of.
Go Prince GO prince, please beat Keith Urban lol

seriously is it that big of a deal for him to be #1 that people are buy 5+ copies? that's just really unnecessary

Sounds very promising. The only thing I'm upset about is that Windows Media player doesn't recognize the albums yet. When I put them in, they showed up as Lovesexy and 1999. I couldn't edit them either because it wouldn't allow me to add all of the trax.
I think that's deliberate. To foil torrents. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

true, kieth urban copies prince on stage when he lays on the floor and starts playing the guitar. and kieth has that prince sound but with western feel. [Edited 4/3/09 22:27pm] love @ peace 2 all

Especially since Prince and his fans say it's not about sales If he's number 1 or 2 doesn't matter "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I agree with that, and it's another reason I didn't buy it, 'cause I don't do record stores no more, iTunes locked it down!

3121 debuted at #1 with 183k without an iTunes release as well, but that one had a video and a charting single, so I have to say doing 160k 3 years later is fantastic.

It had 3 videos and they all got some airplay on the video channels. This record has zero promotion and no radio airplay at all. It also had the golden ticket thing It will be gold on its first week out

I think that's deliberate. To foil torrents. I had no problems with iTunes recognizing the songs, but it didn't recognize the albums and artist for MPLSound and Elixer. Go figure. OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

Copycat said: JumpUpOnThe1 said: good question... although the 11.98 price being average for a single cd might come into play...I guess...? No, No, No. SoundScan counts multi-disc sets as one total sale even if the package contains 10 CDS. True. The fact that it is a multi-disk set (3 CDs) will come into play with certification from the RIAA. As we know from the way Emancipation was certified, each set sold represents 3 disks. To go platinum (1 million) each set will have to sell one third of that, 333,333 copies. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

There won't be any test. There's no single on radio to keep people buying it, and Prince is not doing constant tv promo to plug the release. From next week it's gonna drop like a rock.

psychodelicide said: dumbass said: whether he is as good as Prince is irrelevant. someone could be a very talented musician in their own right with many deserved fans without being as talented as Prince. it isn't as if they are competing with one another and fans can only choose to buy one or the other. there is plenty of consumer dollars fdor both. I find it ironic that Prince fans adore a guy who attempts to convey positivity and yet are so jealous and filled with anger of anyone else. And I find it ironic that you are accusing me of being jealous and filled with anger, when that is not the case at all. I was simply stating my opinion, same as you have the right to express yours. that's not irony at all. this message brought to you by logic.
